Wet 'n' Wild Hooked on Vinyl Color Icon Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches
Hooked on Vinyl
Wet ‘n’ Wild Hooked on Vinyl Color Icon Eyeshadow Quad ($2.99 for 0.16 oz.) contains three neutrals and a pop of smoky teal. Three of the shades were decent enough, but the deeper teal shade, while pigmented, was a real pain to work with and blend out. It was just the type of texture that stuck very strongly wherever it initially applied and did not want to blend or even out nicely.

Hooked on Vinyl #1
Hooked on Vinyl #1 is a muted, medium yellow with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It looked more orange-toned in the pan but came out yellower for me both applied to the lid and swatched on my arm. The texture was soft but powdery, which resulted in more semi-opaque coverage that did not build up unless applied over a good primer. It wore well for six hours on its own.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to be "powerfully pigmented" with a "butter-soft" texture that "glides on like a dream." The majority of the eyeshadows are on the drier side, sometimes feeling loosely pressed and other times more chalk-like and truly dry to the point where a primer became a must for getting good adhesion and wear out of the formula. Most of the matte shades were quite pigmented, and I found they actually applied better to bare skin than some of the shimmers, which often appeared faded and muted in practice compared to how they appeared in the pan. The pigmentation varied from decent to mostly opaque depending on the shade, and the wear was typically between five and seven hours on me.
I did not keep most of the previously-released trios and palettes from the brand as mine, but when I compared 2018's formula to the prior one (and mine are likely five or more years old), the previous formula was far better for their shimmers--slightly more slip, creamier in feel, and typically more pigmented and true-to-color on the lid. I think the mattes, overall, are improved as they are more blendable and pigmented on the lid.

Hooked on Vinyl #2
Hooked on Vinyl #2 is a light beige with subtle, warm yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good color coverage in a single layer that applied evenly to bare skin. The consistency was a bit drier but did not sheer out too readily and seemed to sit well on my lid. The eyeshadow stayed on well for seven hours.

Hooked on Vinyl #3
Hooked on Vinyl #3 is a blackened teal with subtle, green undertones and a frosted sheen. It had excellent pigmentation with a firmer, stiffer texture that made it harder to blend out on the eye. Even when I tried over primer, it was a struggle to diffuse the edges. I noticed the eyeshadow had a tendency to skip and drag on the lid, too, which gave it a more uneven appearance from the get-go. It wore well for seven and a half hours.

Hooked on Vinyl #4
Hooked on Vinyl #4 is a medium, orange-toned copper with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that applied evenly to the lid and blended out nicely. It appeared more shimmery in the pan then on the skin, where it seemed to get muted in its sheen, but using it with a dampened brush brought it back (if desired). On me, it lasted for seven hours before fading noticeably.

I like your eye look in that I usually do not see you in heavy ochre based shadows. I cannot wear these shades very well myself and, in any event, this palette looks difficult.
There aren’t that many, I’d say… and the other factor being I typically use more than four shades, haha.
Oh rats – the shade I liked best (the dark green/teal) didn’t score all that well, which is disappointing. I have Wavy from the Gritty & Glow palette so don’t need this but I was hoping all the shades would be good and I could use this as an inexpensive alternative.
I am surprised these aren’t better ๐
I like the colour range, the teal is a gorgeous shade, but somehow it all really misses the mark. But I guess for a DS offering, it is much better than Revlon.
Besides, once you have Editor’s Pick from bareMinerals, you have the best teal shade ever.
I also meant to say that I really love your eye look Christine.
Editor’s Pick was a good one!
I was hopeful that these WNW mini palettes would be nice as they are the perfect size to toss in when travelling but seems like a number of the shades are a pain to work with. I will stick with my Too Faced Natural Matte and UD Basic palettes.
You and me both, Deborah!
These may not be the best quality, but you rock the h-e-double hockey sticks out of this look, per usual. I don’t know how you manage to make a so-so palette look so good, but I quite enjoy this look. Beautiful ?
Iโm so disappointed in these new wnw palettes. Theyโve made better shadows in the past. Sometimes I wonder if brands do quality testing or just skip it sometimes; however, your look is fantastic!
I love the eye look you created Christine! ๐
I can’t wait to recreate it, just need the dupe for shade #3.
No need for this eye palette but I will be copying this eye look sometime this weekend :). Looks like MUG Desert Sands, Nars Pygar, maybe mixed with Nars Lola Lola, and a mix of MAC Tarnish and Sephora Midnight Swim. And then My Boyfriend’s Jeans pencil ๐
I think I’d pass on this, the colors are only just okay for my coloring.
