Dior Montaigne Matte (207) Rouge Dior Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light-medium gray with neutral-to-cool undertones paired with a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied decently, but it could have been more even and flattering on the lips, as some of the color pulled into lip lines. The texture was smooth, velvety–creamy without being too emollient–and didn’t tug on the lips when applied from the tube. It lasted for five and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. I do, however, love seeing Dior include non-traditional colors in their permanent range. MAC Night Mint (LE, $19.00) is warmer, glossier (85% similar). NYX Black Sesame (P, $6.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Anastasia Smoke (P, $18.00) is darker, more muted, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Dior Superstitious Matte (789) Rouge Dior Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brighter, medium-dark purple with strong, warm pink undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that wasn’t too thin or too thick and was easy to glide across the lips. The finish was more flattering than Montaigne Matte, but it took about an hour before it had more of a matte finish. On me, this shade lasted for five and a half hours and left a stain behind, and it was just a touch hydrating overall. Dose of Colors Dark Secret (P, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Cloud9 (LE, $18.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). Maybelline Vibrant Violet (P, $7.99) is lighter (90% similar). Milani I Am Cool (P, $6.99) is lighter (85% similar). KVD Beauty LUV (P, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Anastasia Vintage (P, $20.00) is less glossy (95% similar). ColourPop Zipper (DC, $6.50) is darker, more muted, less glossy (90% similar). MAC Heroine (P, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). KVD Beauty L.U.V. (P, $20.00) is less glossy (90% similar). MAC Stylist's Tip (LE, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Grind (LE, $7.00) is lighter (90% similar). Too Faced Unicorn (P, $21.00) is less glossy (95% similar). KVD Beauty Susperia (P, $20.00) is lighter, less glossy (85% similar). ColourPop Lychee (LE, $6.50) is lighter, brighter, less glossy (85% similar). Sephora Rock & Purple (56) (P, $14.00) is darker, more muted (85% similar). Anastasia Rage (P, $18.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). ColourPop Lil Rebel (LE, $9.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Anastasia #9 (Vol. 1) (PiP, ) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). Formula Overview

Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to “highly pigmented” with “lasting comfort” and no “colour streaking” for 16 hours. It’s a solid lipstick formula–fairly pigmented, applies without tugging, wears four to six hours, and is comfortable to wear, but it just is nowhere near 16-hour wear. The satin shades are more hydrating, while the mattes are slightly hydrating to non-drying. The formula has a floral scent but no discernible taste to me. The formula has a strong, floral scent in the tube, and I don’t really notice the scent once it’s on the lips.

Thanks for your review! It seems like Dior is flailing at non-traditional colors. Their pastel colors were terrifying. All I can look at though is your GORGEOUS eye look. Mind sharing? 🙂

It’s too bad they made that ridiculous 16 hr claim, or these would’ve scored much higher. I swatched Superstitious in store, and it’s really pretty, but I have a dupe, so will skip, and don’t like any floral scent either. But I’m really glad to see Dior come out with bold, non-traditional colors.

You could tell before the swatches that they were uh-oh. But you’re right. They’re trying. Too bad the gray isn’t better. The blue and green lean are neat. Today’s lips make me glad I have no sense of smell. But scented products are a bad policy, even when you don’t smell them. And the irritancy factor can crank up at any time. Wish they’d all stop. The houses that started with scent after fashion appear to be the worst offenders.

How strange — a cool grey lipstick that I don’t like very much! I think Montaigne Matte is just too light for me, besides looking a bit uneven and a little too matte for my tastes. I like Superstitious Matte a bit better, maybe because it looks a bit less matte, lol!

I tried the violet one and it’s gorgeous. It’s on my to buy list.
It pulls darker on me, maybe because i’m about an NC 20 and Christine is NC 25, weird how color changes so much with such a small difference in skintone

Hey! I also guess that possible dupe to 789 could be Urban Decay Bittersweet ( or I just didn’t notice it on the list?). Also, in side-by-side list I saw that Colourpop’s Zipper has “C”, while Dior 789 has “C-” but as I see from the swatch, Zipper looks really uneven and dry, at the same time, Dior looks really nice and opaque.
