MAC Live Long and Prosper & The Enemy Within Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
MAC Live Long and Prosper Lipstick
MAC Live Long and Prosper Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as an “icy rosy champagne [with a Frost finish].” It’s a muted, light-medium copper rose with warm undertones and multi-colored shimmer. It had semi-sheer color coverage, so this one is likely to look different from person to person, as I find it looks like a pinker color on my lips due to the way color layers over my natural lip color. As a result, I do think it’s rather wearable on its own, but the sheerness would also make it work as a layering shade. I just wish it was described as a sheer product. The color wore well for three and a half hours and had a slight amount of settling into my lip lines. It was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Warm Ice (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Graham (P, $36.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). Dior Golden (065) (LE, $40.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC All I Want (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC The Enemy Within Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “neutral gold shimmer [with a Frost finish].” It’s a bright, light-medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a sparkling, frosted finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that covered fairly evenly, though I had some color slip into my lip lines after an hour of wear. The lipstick lasted for four hours on me and was lightly drying. MAC Ruffian Gold (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Bite Beauty Gold (LE, $26.00) is more shimmery, less pigmented (90% similar). I couldn’t agree more with your comment about LLAP! MAC should have advertised it as a sheer. Certainly, it’s pretty but I would not have bought it knowing it was a sheer. I’ll be posting my swatches in the morning and because the shade changes colors, I took 2 different pictures. It literally looks like a different lipstick if you compare the pics but ironically, on me, the shade looks exactly as it does on you.
What are you wearing on your eyes? Oh my gosh that look is absolutely gorgeous!!!
That’s pretty much my issue with a lot of the recent MAC Frosts!! I would say, overall, Frosts are not 110% ultra pigmented, but they were usually semi-opaque to opaque, and then a lot of the recent ones are semi-sheer… more like an ultra-shimmery Lustre.
It is particularly frustrating since MAC does take the time to describe each shade with an official description, and they DO use sheer as a descriptor at times… so why not here?? For as many who might want the exact color in the tube, I’m sure there are many who would enjoy it as a sheerer option, too – just tell us!

Yes, I’ve found the same thing with their frosts. The only recent exceptions I’ve found are New York Apple and Odyssey.
And you KNOW I had to order those shadows! Fortunately I already have UV-B in the Vice palette. Nice though, I just got another $20 UD Kickback – woohoo!
Christine, I never noticed how GORGEOUS you look with your hair down! I mean, you look GORGEOUS all the time, but this was a pleasant surprise! Live Long And Prosper looks like it just BELONGS on you, such a fitting shade!
You’re very sweet, thank you Anime! 🙂
Agree. I think Christine looks amazing with her hair down. The photos are always gorgeous.
Uh, who cares about the lippies, you are killing it with that eye look!! OMG, LOVE those blues !! Oh, what were we reviewing again? Oh yes, more lippies of course 😉 I love how LLAP look on you! I don’t mind it being sheer, as opaque frosts can be really hard to wear. I will need to swatch it in store, see if it looks good on me.
Aw, thank you Katherine!
I’m not a fan of these lipsticks but they look fantastic on you, Christine. Somehow they seem to complement your skin tone 🙂
Thank you, Gabis! 🙂
I love the eye look and your hair is gorgeous! These lipsticks are an easy pass for me, though.
Thanks a lot, Kimm! 🙂
I bought Live Long and Prosper and Where No Man Has Gone Before and I LOVE them. To be fair, they are my first ever frost lipsticks, but they seem to be making a bit of a comeback recently. I don’t mind the sheerness – it’s not TOO sheer, and I prefer a more subtle lipstick for everyday anyway!
I think frost/metallic is having a moment for sure!
It is super odd that Mac didn’t just advertise these as sheer. Live Long and Prosper is a beautiful shade, even if only for layering.
I totally agree! I have no idea why they wouldn’t!
Your whole look is stunning, Christine! Perfect blush and lipstick that don’t detract from your gorgeous eye makeup. Simply stunning!
You’re always so kind, Tracey! Thank you!
LLAP is gorgeous! Thing is, I do have All I Want, so this could be redundant. But I does have that serious 60’s pale frosty “Mod” look, so it looks really cool!
The Enemy Within is just too yellow-gold for me to pull off with my yellow leaning complexion.
But; again it’s your stunning eye look that’s flooring me! This blue/purple combo looks AMAZING. Now for me to buy a few Vintage Collex shades me self! ?
Thank you, Nancy! 🙂
Is this the Star Trek line?
they just won’t look good on me. My dark skin needs a POP of color. I like bold, rich colors on these bad boys and lately MAC isn’t giving it to me. They’re not my favorite brand anyway but every now and again I like to go grab a nice nude or bold pank. UGH. Obviously your eye look is amazing.
Yes, it is!
Like them sooo much. Hope they will Look Good on me, too because often metallic looking colours Do not Look Good on me. For example the metallic ones from colourpop Look soooo good but not on me. Maybe it works because they Are not so intense.
And by the way I always wanted to Write that you should wear your hair Open more often Christine. Looks so good.
Oh now I have learned that you say hair down, I Wrote hair Open.
Thank you so much, Kylie! It’s actually a real pain to wear it down in photos, which is why I don’t!
Christine, you look gorgeous!! 🙂
Thank you, Melissa!
I love these color combos on you.
Thanks, Dina!
LLAP is pretty, but your eye look steals the show. Gorgeous!
Thank you, Rachel!
Live Long and Prosper is pretty!
It is!
Agreeing with everyone, your makeup is gorgeous in the photos.
As for the lipsticks, I really like LLAP, I think I must have it. It shimmers, and I loke shimmery lips now and then. Perfect!
I swatched LLAP at the Mac store on my inner wrist today next to Gel lippie, and they looked very similar.
They are gorgeous shades.
