Sneak Peek: MAC Bangin' Brilliant Lipsticks (x18) Photos & Swatches

MAC Dew Lipstick
MAC Dew Lipstick

The MAC Bangin’ Brilliant Collection adds 29 lipsticks to the permanent range, which consists of mostly totally new shades but also includes a few repromotes. There’s no specific launch date, but a lot of stores seem to have some of the shades off the list — but not all. My local store had 18, which I bought and have swatched for you here. They had spots for some of the additional shades (no units to sell) but a few were missing entirely. As soon as my store gets them in or online launches, I’ll be sure to do my best to swatch and review the remaining shades as well. I also asked my local store about the permanent blushes/eyeshadows, and they know about them but didn’t know when the product would arrive in-store.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Maybe deep rooted. It’s grayed pucey lavender and I have clothes to match. 1950s flashback! I could do a lot of monochromatic whole faces around that color. MUFE ash plum or pink ash as blush. Have to at least lip swatch it. It’s atypical, but muted and non goth. Think it would not look as if I were trying too hard to be trendy or young, which def am not.

I’m eyeing Deep Rooted too! Either it’s going to look cool and edgy on me, or my lips are going to look like meat that’s been left in the fridge for too long LOL

That was the first shade to call to me as well. I think for me, that one would be dark enough to keep me from looking zombie-like. Fingers crossed! 🙂

When you do review the sheer ones (mainly Gold Xixi), it would be great to have an example of what they look like as toppers. Though obviously you have a lot of swatches and testing on your hands already, and I totally understand if you don’t have the time or anything like that.

I already did this for two of the shades, Gold Xixi and Frosting 🙂 As always, full images will be provided in the review, not the sneak peek! Read your comment a little too fast, saw you already asked for in the review – I will show an example of each shade layered, not sure how quickly I will get to those particular shades, but I will review as soon as I can! Thanks for your patience – sorry I am so slow to review everything!

Girl, you are quicker than anyone in the game, esp for someone who truly does an analysis, not just describes the shade, then gushes or pans.

Stephanie, I have the white appearing UD lip liner, I think it might be Ozone. When applied, it is clear and may work with most or all colors of lippies.

I’ve considered both (and have discarded neither). I can’t decide, really. I’d love to try either one, but my local Sophora never had OCC samples and now doesn’t carry them at all. They’re not something I’d want to buy without trying.

Chrstine, I’m curious if you ever get get recognized when you go into your local MAC store? Wow, a lot of really tough colors for me to pull off, think most of these will be better for mixing. Like 4Eva but don’t think it’s going to agree with my skintone and undertones, and I’m drawn to Deep Rooted.

I’m surprised that there are so many colors being added as permanent, especially with several non-traditional colors. These shades are certainly in line with the “whatever-color-you-want” lip trends, but it seems like MAC and their love of limited edition mania would have approached this differently. I’m glad they didn’t, though. It gives me more time to hunt swatches of Deep Rooted on someone with my coloring (or time to find it in my little counter that never has anything in stock).

Actually, most of these look better than I was anticipating, even though they don’t look perfect. I think I have dupes for a lot of these, though, from my stash. I see dupes for Nyx Macaron Lippies. Lightly Charred and Deep Rooted have my attention for being unique. I want to see your dupe lists first. It’s nice that these are permanent and I can wait and think about what I want.

Happy as heck for another opportunity to get Lavender Jade and Punk Couture!!! Mangrove looks gorgeous, too! It’s also nice to know that these brand new-ish lipsticks are just up the road at our SDFS store 1.3 miles away, too! ?
But what a summer so far, between this and the UD Vice 120….hard to restrain spending like a madwoman. ?

Christine, let me start off by saying I love your site and all the hard work you put into swatching and reviewing. Thank you so much for doing what you do.

Have you ever thought about getting an intern? I’m sure there is a college student working on a Social Media or related degree that would love to intern with you. I know I would!

Unfortunately, a lot of what takes up time and why I am behind aren’t things that someone else can do (swatch/photograph/edit/pull dupes/review) – my husband tried photographing products for me a few years ago, and so then I would just have to swatch, but it didn’t, ultimately, save much time as photographing photos is really the easiest and fastest part and ended up taking more time in the end because of process/reorganization! I’ve already delegated the majority of tasks that can be done by someone else to someone else 🙂 (My husband and brother-in-law work full-time for me, and my mom works as-needed, mostly for financial/payroll/accounting things, as well as a part-time helper for data entry tasks.)

Thank you for the suggestion!

No problem. Just thinking out loud. Sounds like you already have everything under control so no need to fix what’s not broken. Have a good day!

Sure. Google it. It’ll be all over the net. Some people specialize in Mac, and swatch virtually every offering. It’s good to find a makeup twin, but arguably more important to find someone who is a skin twin, if you jump down the skincare rabbit hole, esp w/ AB.

I will try really me and nifty neon, I already have Mangrove, the others Are nothing for me and I am afraid to say that some Are really ugly. Have not Expected such ugly colours from Mac. Really strange.

I’ve been checking your website obsessively for swatches so thank you so much for this post! Are we going to see the new frosts as well?

Melissa Avatar

Ahhhh Lavender Jade shall finally be mine! And so shall 4eva…and so shall lightly charred…and so shall deep ro… ahhh nooo wish list is growing! Some of these remind of the NYX macaroon lipsticks though

Lulle Avatar

A lot of the lighter shades looked good in the roundup picture but not so much in the closeups with a lot gathering into lip lines. Sigh. Deep Rooted looks surprisingly good though. I’ll wait for your full review (sometimes full face pics tell a different story) but I think it’s my favorite in this lot!

Liz Avatar

OMG yay! I’ve been waiting for your sneak-peak of these new permanent collection. Thank you so so much!

Seems that, all of the Frost shades & the just released Breathing Fire are the ones missing & I think most or almost all of the MAC store/counter doesn’t have the Frosts yet. Anyway, glad that MAC are expanding their color selection for the permanent shades. But I’m definitely getting asap the Love & Cherished and Lavender Jade.

Btw, is it just me, or this Lavender Jade is more brighter or darker than its first release from the Bao Bao Wan collection??

Amanda Avatar

I really want to coment “oh I liked that one” but only I can thinks is: WHY MAC NAMED THE YELLOW ONE GOLD XIXI?”

xixi in portuguese means “pee” :S

Does XIXI means something in english or other language? Please, help me to deal with this. lol

Dew is the most interesting one. A lot of other companies have already beat MAC to these colors so ill go to my local beauty supply and dupe every last one but I will purchase dew that one looks original. I’m glad to see they aren’t doing a bunch of pinks and reds though and now they should make some new lipglass

Kristin Ann S. Avatar

I got Really Me already! I didn’t know it was new, goes to show how much I know lol it’s very similar to colourpop Littlestitious which is why I got it. I’ve been wearing CP Littlestitious like crazy. Some of these shades look unwearable by the some. It takes a certain individual who would like something like the light blue (no offense). I think I will skip the rest. Have a nice day!! Ps: I got mine off Maccosmetics.com.

Super excited about this collection! When will the remainder of the collection be available? Looking forward to the “frost” colors!! 🙂
