I have been hitting the corals pretty hard the past few weeks: Tom Ford Lips and Boys in Giacomo, Adriano, and Michael; Bite Beauty Lab 006 (Mango Daiquiri); MAC Toying Around and Make Me Gorgeous; LANCOME L’absolue Rouge in 246 (Rose Comtesse) and 349 (Rouge Carousel); and Nars Audacious in Kelly. I have probably a dozen coral lip glosses ranging from the pink end of the coral spectrum to the red-orange end, giving me a seemingly endless number of combinations to keep me excited about what I will put together next. I really want Nar’s Audacious in Natalie!

I’m not a fan of coral. I bought MAC Impassioned years ago and rarely wear it as I find it both bright and a bit too orange-toned once applied. I’m just heading out soon to the Royal Botanical Gardens and may, just for the heck of it, wear it today! I have to say, though, that I’m quite liking the look of UD Alpha and may give it a try.

I did wear it yesterday. What I love about it is how long it wears and how nicely it fades/wears away. But the reality is that those coral tones simply clash with my skin tone…they don’t look “natural” (if you can call any bright lipstick “natural looking” but I’m sure you know what I mean).

Isn’t this odd….Catfight (the old formula in the heavy metallic packaging) is the one Revolution lipstick I returned! It didn’t look good on me and while I love the formula of those discontinued lippies, that one let me down a LOT. It wasn’t long wearing and didn’t fade nicely at all (all the other ones I have were great in both of those qualities).

I love Catfight (Revolution)! Adore that color. What I was a bit surprised by is not finding tons of blog posts pointing out clearly that UD Gwen Stefani Wonderland is so close to it. I bought them both on sale from Sephora and am returning Wonderland as they’re too close. Keeping Catfight as it’s slightly to my preference swatched, but on my lips they are so similar maybe it’s just the packaging I prefer. I also have other near-dupes like KvD so couldn’t justify both. But reviews from when the Stefani colors came out were not pointing out similarity to existing UD shades… I don’t know about the Vice Wonderland, maybe it’s different. (Actually you do have Catfight in the dupes list for it, but doesn’t show up on the main page/description for wonderland). Similarly with Jilted and Firebird, they are less similar than C & W, but still close enough swatches and I could barely tell them apart applied to half my lips each. I don’t need both. I looked up reviews to see if I was imagining things and mostly I saw gushing about how unique Firebird was. I know I can return to Sephora but I don’t like to waste things. I kept Rock Steady lipstick and liner and Wonderland lipliner and returning the rest of Gwen collection (Firebird liner is not pigmented so I was disappointed in that too). Just a bit of a tangent perhaps. Maybe it’s on my skin/lips that they show up so similar…

Also Sephora has a lipstick called Valentine that shows up on and off in sales for $5 that is similar to Wonderland. For those who like Catfight/wonderland, it’s similar in shade, but matte, and I like the formula.

Catfight was listed in the dupes’ section of Wonderland when I reviewed it (the Gwen Stefani version), and I also showed a swatch of how Wonderland from the Vice range was very similar to the Catfight Revolution lipstick actually when I went through and compared all Vice lipsticks to their Revolution counterparts (http://www.temptalia.com/urban-decay-vice-lipsticks-vs-revolution-lipsticks-shade-comparisons/) 🙂

I am seeing both Catfight/Wonderland show up for all three shades?

http://www.temptalia.com/makeup-dupe-list/urban-decay-vice-lipstick/wonderland/ – first two dupes are Wonderland|Catfight, Wonderland|Wonderland
http://www.temptalia.com/makeup-dupe-list/urban-decay-revolution-lipstick/catfight/ – first two dupes are Catfight|Wonderland (Gwen Stefani), Catfight|Wonderland (Vice)
http://www.temptalia.com/makeup-dupe-list/urban-decay-gwen-stefani-lipstick/wonderland/ – first two dupes are Wonderland|Catfight, Wonderland|Wonderland

I am not sure what you mean by the “main page for Wonderland” – could you share a link? This would be Wonderland’s page, but we don’t list dupes specifically on this page – there is a large button that says “GET DUPES” which will you take you to the shade’s dupe page. http://www.temptalia.com/product/urban-decay-vice-lipstick/wonderland/

In the review for Wonderland Vice Lipstick, the first two dupes that show up in the dupes’ portion of the review are: “Urban Decay Wonderland (LE, $18.00) is less pigmented (95% similar). Urban Decay Catfight (DC, $22.00) is warmer (95% similar).” The only page it doesn’t show up for is Catfight, because the lists in older posts do not update with new dupes (as Wonderland came out after Catfight) so I manually typed out and added those dupes for Catfight’s review. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to go back and update old reviews with new dupes!

Bite Pickled Ginger looks so pretty!

I usually go more for red-corals, but I love UD Sheer Revolution in Sheer Streak. I’m not sure how I’ll like the new version. I also love Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Sunset Beach, Nyx High Voltage in Beam, Nyx Butter Lipstick in Little Susie, and Stila Color Balm Lipstick in Elle.

I have, and love, Tom Ford Patrick. As for others that I like, that’s tough for me to answer! Chanel Rouge Allure lipsticks in Mélodieuse and Génial (very, very similar) are lovely, and I know it’s more of a true coral but I love Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy lipstick in Defiant Coral. ?

Coral in all its forms is a real weakness of mine! At this precise moment in time I’m wearing ColourPop Naked Ladies Ultra Satin and really liking it. As long as my lips are well prepped I’ve discovered that I can wear these, which is a good thing because I have a few and I don’t want them to just lie unused in my stash.

Overall if I had to pick one shade to wear for the rest of my life it would be coral!

I love Natalie, Paradiso and Rieuse, depending on the amount of coverage wanted. And Niagara!!!!! Any of them paired with Becca Snapdragon.

I like Dior Addict Fluid Sticks in Tiny Pink and Rieuse (not sure of the spelling) and Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipstick in Pink in the Afternoon

Love these colors. I think I could wear all except the two lightest, the Tom Ford and KVD.
How do your lips feel when you present so many different colors?

Katherine T. Avatar

Hmm, this is one of the toughest colors for me to pull off. I got some GWP lippies in this color family, and they all look awful on me. I think the pink clashes with my yellow undertones. But I found I can pull off MAC Pretty Boy if I pair it with MAC Spring Flock.

kjh Avatar

You and I have a lot of the same color preferences, and these would all look dreadful on me, too. Also grossly have only GWP or mega set smalls. Not everyone thinks they look bad, but I feel like swamp thing. No offense, Bunny. I can do coral blush, well buffed, but lips, way no. I’m neutral to cool, and these make me look sallow. Hot red and orange leaning corals are far better than pink corals. If I were to receive a scholarship for a coral lip, think I’d go with LQ jungle queen. Poppy’s Eden leans a little coral on me, which was disappointing. All the more for the folks that desire them. Gray is more in my comfort zone than coral. Got >40 years of not-so-coral sentiment. Even as my coloring changed, it never looked good on me. Well, it cuts down on the craving… Find my debit card is spared in summer, by deselecting pinks/corals.

Katherine T. Avatar

Yes, same here! The red and orange corals are easier for me to pull off than the pink corals. Thanks for the tip on LQ Jungle Queen, that looks like a nice red orange coral for me. I can rock all kinds of lip colors ( reds, purples, browns, blues, grays) but the pink corals and peachy tan browns usually look horrible on me, makes me look sallow and sick. Oh well, more money saved for my fave colors!

kjh Avatar

Yeah, and yellows browns like Hula and Laguna aren’t the best, either, for cheek prods, though they sell like hot cakes and flatter most people. Red behind it is good for me, yellow tips it over to wrong. One of the reasons I’m not heavy into bronzers/contouring. They often cast me sallow. I like coppery bronzers and snow bunny.

I just wore impassioned last night to a wedding. It’s one one of my go-to lipsticks for the summer. I have been wanting Beloved vs Berlin for a while, I just can’t make up my mind between the 2. Streak and Make Me Gorgeous are also in my stash, as well as Sephora’s Samba. I love a good coral lipstick, the brighter, the better!

Alecto Avatar

I’m still trying to make coral work for me. I’ve had some corals and ended up getting rid of most of them, keeping only (for now) a lip stain and a balm stain. The only corals that seem to get close to working for me are the ones that are almost indistinguishable from red (meaning, they are subjectively red or coral). The light and medium corals are awful, and I can’t figure out why. On the list above, everything from “Be A Lady” through “Beloved” would loo like death on me, but “Alpha” would probably work. It’s weird — I can wear reds, purples, and blues and feel perfectly comfortable, but coral makes me look (IMO) garish. [sigh]

AceAces Avatar

I am very slowly using my Mac Party Parrot (LE) as a bright pinky coral. I adore that shade. I think Impassioned is similar.

Also Givenchy Hibiscus Exclusif. <3
