We may call it rouge, but there are far less red-hued blushes on the marketplace, though luckily, we have some and many of the permanent ones are fantastic. Here are three warmer and three cooler takes on red blush. When working with deeper or more richly pigmented shades, my best tip is to use a fan brush, which will allow you to build up the color and intensity slowly and easily. Also, it’s nice to have a buffing brush on hand, or if you use liquid foundation, use the residual product left on the brush to tamp down over-applied blush.
So cheeky. So Parisian (theatre). Think Colour Pop. Laduree. Three. Addiction. Love th is colour tone.
Do you wear this kind of shade often, Stacey?
No. I put on something more natural. I just like this tone. I do have Surratt. I saw the Colour Pop. I want the Japanese brands I stated, but I can’t swatch. I like the opera/ theatre cheek look….especially the Chinese opera.
Laduree is so tempting, but the exchange rate/ultimate price is so high for something I’m not sure I’d even like personally (everything looks pretty, though).
I wanna add NARS Exhibit A to this list!! 🙂
Good pick!
I like NARS Taos, and not sure if I can pull it off, but Cola Pop looks really pretty. It’s funny but I have 2 drawers full of blushes and none of them are true reds or very dark either. Since my cheeks “eat” blush, I usually have to pack it on, so I’m afraid of clown cheeks with a dark red blush
I wonder if a darker blush would hold up any better on your skin, Katherine!
Hmmm, it’s worth a try! I’ve been eyeing Cola Pop for the next sale. I like the luminous finish, it’s blendable, and there’s enough brown in it to go with my brown red lipsticks
I’m super fair, neutral tone with brown eyes… Absolutely LOVE clinique cola pop! I think this shade would work on almost any skin tone. Depending on your application of course 😉 I really think this is my favorite blush I own, which is saying a LOT, trust me. So suuuper versatile!
Ms. KT: idk if it’s pH or what, but I had this problem for decades, and now that I use Paula’s Choice, my skin has normalized. I couldn’t wear cream products of any type, even eyes: just gone. You might write their team & inquire. Now, stuff only disappears if it is too close to my actual skin tone. It’s certainly a chemistry thing. The pH has to be right for the for Salycylic Acid to work, and it might be behind the disappearing blush. Nars Turkish Red, bold & way old, would be invisible in 15 min. You don’t have to buy stuff to profit from their knowledge. Now I can do CP. yay! I think it’s pH, but not sure.
Thanks for the tip KJH! I’m a big fan of Paula’s Choice and will email their team to see what they recommend. It’s funny because my cheeks aren’t super dry or super oily, and I’ve tried different primers and creams, some work better than others. I suspect it’s pH or the natural oils my skin secretes. I just call it the Blush-Eating Monster LOL I’m afraid to buy any super expensive blushes (ie Tom Ford Love Lust) for fear the Monster will eat it all up
Oh wow, Taos is beautiful! I really have no idea how to wear intense blush shades like this though! I own Cola Pop and Mac Love Thing. I have never worn them! Seems like a crime. I agree with Katherine’s comment about being scares of looking like a “clown”. Plus, I can’t figure out the pairing of eyes and lips because this shade was really something I strayed from as this was “Grandma’s rouge”shade until recently. But, it really is pretty. Maybe we need a crash lesson! lol
I love them paired with thicker eyeliner, maybe a neutral shade all-over. Then a lipstick that’s a few shades lighter but similar in tone!
Thanks! Sounds fairly simple and pretty!
C: didn’t you mean to say cool, for UD Quiver? It’s cool in the whole review.
Fixed, thank you!
Time for me to revisit my pan of Clinique Cola Pop! I love the shade so much, but last summer it wasn’t holding up so great over my BB cream at all, so when I bought MAC Burnt Pepper blush, I forgot all about my Cola Pop. It’s been so neglected!
However, now that it’s winter and I’m using regular foundation, I’m going to give it a hardy “welcome back”!
How interesting that Cola Pop + BB cream didn’t get along. Which BB cream was it, Nancy?
Lumene’s BB. I love the coverage it gives, spf and vite C, but once it’s used up, I’m trying the It CC Cream.
Very interesting!!
It is! Doesn’t even make sense to me. The only other thing I can think to try would be to apply WnW Reserve Your Cabana over my entire face BEFORE adding Cola Pop or any other similar formula blush. Otherwise: IT CC.
Wow, I’m definitely going to go pick up a Kevyn Aucoin blush for $0.00! :p
Hmm, I wonder what is wrong with that! I will go investigate.
I just picked up Colour Pop New Lowes, and I think it’s a good budget friendly colour if you’re looking to try red but aren’t sure you’ll love it. It’s a little much for my NC15 skin but I think I can use other brushes and some foundation to sheer it out to a nice berry.
Oh, nice! So good to hear it works well 🙂
Rougeur is really beautiful. Being pale, red blush isn’t a shade I wear often. Reds have to be able to sheer out and blend without being patchy. I have to use a very light touch. I have Cola Pop and Quiver, and I think they’re both very pretty. I really love Pinktini from the Sleek Blush By 3 palette in Pink Sprint. It gives perfect “Snow White” cheeks, and can also be buffed out to a pinker tone if desired. I also like it patted over red lipstick to give a velvety finish.
For red cream blushes, I like Butter London Cheeky Cream Blush in Picadilly Circus, MAC Casual Color in Secret Admirer, and Stila Convertible Color in Poppy.
Sounds like you’ve got several good red blushes in your arsenal 🙂
I have, and love Frankly Scarlet.
It dosn’t seem like Clinique here have the whole range of the Pop blushes I looked for Cola Pop earlier this year. Taos looks very pretty. As do they all to be honest. I need more money and a much larger flat 🙂
I hope they will eventually release them all in your part of the world, Helene!!
I have adored Frankly Scarlet for more years that I care to remember. I also love Cola Pop. I need to check out Quiver.
Quiver is a good one – it is right on the borderline of cool/warm!
I forgot that Quiver is cooler than most red shades… I wonder if I could pull it off!
I bet you could!
I have Cola Pop, and it’s one of my absolute favorite blushes. I also recently picked up MAC Devil for a brighter red, although it is promoted as a orange/coral on most skin tones. I haven’t worn it yet; maybe I will remember to try it this week!
Isn’t it a great shade? I think it’s one of those unexpectedly good shades.
NARS Taos is one of the first blushes I ever bought and it remains one of my favorite. Great round up Christine!
Thanks, Monica!
My favorite right now is MAC A Little lusty. I loooooove it.
Nice pick, Astrild!
Nars seduction would be a good addition to this list! It’s such a pretty shade, makes me feel like snow white!
Aww! ;D Pretty!
