Summer Favorites

Day on the Beach

There are so many products available these days, and I thought instead of just rounding up some of my favorites for summer that I would break it down into “sets” with themes, so this set of summer favorites, which I’ve called Day on the Beach, with everything build off of Urban Decay’s Born to Run Palette, which has lots of summery shades to choose from along with berry/plum and blue/greens.   You can view swatches of all the products in this set here.

What are some of the products you’ll be wearing this summer?  Share in the comments below!

While these are favorites I’ve enjoyed and would recommend, I hope each set I’ve put together also helps inspire you to try certain products, textures, or shades together. Every product I’ve mentioned I’ve reviewed, which means they also have a list of dupes, so you can check your stash for similar shades and put together your own Day on the Beach set with what you have. Pro tip:  refine results to products you have in your vanity (see this post for more info if you’re like, “Say what?”).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Love, love, love that UD green shadow. My “day at the beach” would be waterproof mascara (maybe), a blue/green liner (Sephora Surfer Babe), sunscreen galore, a gloss with SPF and sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat. The last 2 items make much of the other stuff (mascara, liner) unnecessary, to tell you the truth!

My all time favorite summer products:

-bareminerals complexion rescue tinted moisturizer. Its light weight, non cakey, and hard to notice on the skin!

-mac blot powder. Perfect for touch ups/setting with!

-NARS deep throat is my favorite peachy summer blush

-Makeup Geek Romance is my all time favorite summer blush, though!!

-LUSH Santa baby lip tint. A holiday exclusive shade. But it’s a perfect matte orange red that lasts for EVER on me!

-Fenty gloss bomb

-becca opal highlighter

-essence make me brow is all I wear on my brows in the summer!!

I love my Chantecaille Radiance Gel Bronzer, Cheek Gelee and Liquid Lumiere in particular during the summer. The gels go on so beautifully, it’s like working with watercolors but with the versatility of being able to control the intensity without effort. I also love their Lip Sliques for sheer, but punch of color to the lips and Lip Chics for more full color (not to mention they smell amazing). The new Marc Jacobs gloss sticks are a nice addition to this type of lip product. Cle de Peau Lip Luminizers and Sisley Phyto Lip Twists are also go tos for me. The Phyto Lip Twists are what the Clinique Chubby Sticks wanted to be, but those always fell short in the end.

I wear most of my products year-round, as here in the Portland, OR area we have two seasons: Rain and August. 😉 Seriously, though, I do have more issues with allergies in the spring and summer, so I tend to go less heavy on eye makeup on nicer days. When weather gets 85°F or higher, I really change things up so my makeup doesn’t melt off my already oily face.

Some products I’ll be wearing this summer:

*Neutragena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 100+. It works on my oily face underneath my makeup.

*Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer, Everyday Minerals Semi-Matte Base in 0N Fair, and bareMinerals Mineral Veil in Original for super-hot days. Liquid foundation will just melt off in triple digit heat.

*bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer in Opal 01

*theBalm Balm Desert Bronzer/Blush

*Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer in Light Bronze

*Milani Rose Powder Blush in Coral Cove; coral blushes in general

*UD Beached, Born to Run, and Naked 3 palettes

*Tarte Rainforest of the Sea, Make Believe in Yourself, and Be a Mermaid & Make Waves palettes

*Too Faced Life’s a Festival Palette

*ColourPop Pressed Powder Shadow palettes and bright singles.

*Lipsticks and glosses in bright colors, unconventional colors, shimmers, glitters, and metallics to make up for the more simple and neutral eye makeup. I also wear liquid lipsticks and lipglosses more often the hotter it gets. I don’t want bullet lipstick melting in my makeup bag.

Love the Urban Decay products out lately – Heatwave lipstick, Overdrive eye pencil and Born to Run. I think their Beached palette was a perfect summery one too.
In summer I like to bring out The Rebel palette by Charlotte Tilbury, with a peachy cheek and ginger lipstick.

I’m kind of obsessed with the UD Overdrive pencil. I’ve been wearing it with one-and-done shades (mostly shimmers from the Naked Heat palette) and tubing mascara. Add a cream blush and lip gloss and I’m done.

I don’t wear a lot of makeup in the summer, I live in Texas where it’s hot and I spend as much time as possible in the water.

Just got the JS Thirsty palette and I’m loving it. Glitter/shimmers don’t drop off all over my face, and the mattes stay true as well! I also think going back to Benefit Air Patrol as a shadow primer has helped my shadows stay put – no crease grease. I have also rediscovered Benefit Porefessional primer, and I’m finding I love it now that it’s hot out. Keeps my skin looking better. My Becca Apres Ski palette actually has beautiful bronzer, blush, and highlights for summer. They all seem to be working with my darker summer skin!
