YSL Orange Crepe, Rouge Cape, Red Cassandre Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Sticks Reviews & Swatches
Orange Crepe (82)
YSL Orange Crepe (82) Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick ($38.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a medium-dark, coral-orange with warm undertones and a luminous finish. It had semi-sheer to medium color coverage in a single layer, and this particular shade wasn’t buildable, despite being a richer hue in the range. The texture was lightweight, emollient, and comfortable to apply and to wear, and it didn’t emphasize my lip lines. The color went on evenly, but this type of color has a tendency to pull some of the unevenness of my natural lip color forward, but I felt like the lipstick color itself went on well. It lasted well for four and a half hours and felt moisturizing while worn.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.11 oz. - $345.45 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "deeply hydrating" and "melt" onto the lips with a "pop of color" and give long-term hydration. It is described as having "medium coverage" and "irreverent shine." The color coverage was typically medium, as described, though some of the deeper shades were more buildable to semi-opaque coverage.
They're a very, very creamy, emollient formula; they slip-slide as they melt against the lips during application, and it feels luxurious to apply but can be easily over-applied. It's just the type of texture that lends itself to over-application without adding more coverage, so I recommend being mindful in order to ensure you'll get plenty of usage out of each tube. Fortunately, once on, they don't feel thick or overly slippery, so it doesn't feel like the lipstick is constantly moving while worn.
They have a high-shine, almost glossy, finish that often smoothed out my lip lines without settling into them, and the latter made it more impressive due to the amount of color and slip. The wear time varied from shade to shade but typically landed between three and five hours. Some shades leave a faint stain behind--usually the mid-tone and darker hues. The formula has a sweet, mango scent but no discernible taste.

Rouge Cape (83)
YSL Rouge Cape (83) Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick ($38.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a medium-dark red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a lightly glossy, cream-like finish. It had buildable pigmentation from medium to semi-opaque, which applied smoothly and evenly across my lips. The consistency was lightweight, emollient but not overly slippery (after about 15 seconds–it felt wetter as it applied but not so much while worn). I was impressed at how even the color went on and how it didn’t emphasize my lip lines. This shade stayed on well for five hours and left a faint stain behind, while the formula felt hydrating over time.

Red Cassandre (84)
YSL Red Cassandre (84) Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick ($38.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a deep red with cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had medium, buildable color payoff (up to semi-opaque) that adhered well to my lips with even, smoothing color. The consistency felt lightweight, balm-like as it went on, but it didn’t feel slippery while worn, so the color stayed in place without feathering or showing “lines” if I pressed my lips together. It lasted nicely for five hours, left a faint stain behind, and was moisturizing.

Nice to see the shine back, and some transparency. I’ve reached for some old MUFEs that are similar in formula/feel. Forgot how good they are, and how much more subtle these are, due to the deliberate lack of opacity. Keep the pigment, but decrease the cream/opacity aspect. Nice way to go. They come off with more understatement. Because of the finish, I have no recent dupes for the reds, but also no need. Stay strong!
A trio of winners! In a good way, lol.
Love how Orange Crepe looks so much smoother than my tube of UD 100 Degrees applies! Huge difference, if you ask me.
And I have NOTHING like Rouge Cape. I’m seriously considering it, as I love the reddened stained glass effect that pulls warm enough to warm up my underlying lip color…lately bluish and ugly looking.
As much as I adore how beautiful Red Cassandre looks, I’m up to my gills in red lipsticks. But dang, this one is splendid!
This formula seems quite nice.
Both of the reds are very pretty. I have so many lipsticks in this colour family that I can’t justify buying more. I have to say that Rouge Cape appears to be just a bit different than anything I have and looking at the dupes I don’t have one but it looks familiar to me so will have to scout out my lipsticks and see which one it is. Also, this scored an A+ and is a formula that I like and is comfortable to wear.
Now these are lipsticks worth the price – beautiful shades and excellent ratings. I do love Red Cassandre the best.
Love the colors, especially the reds, 83 and 84. Love the shine and translucence.
Am I crazy? I’m trying to figure out why Sephora has Rouge Cape described as “blue rose”. I’m by no means an expert but I don’t see any blue in it.
5 hour wear time with Red Cassandre (84) is impressive!
Dang. I really love the two reds. It can be hard to find good, sheer reds that don’t pull pink.
Red Cape and Red Cassandre are my sorts of colours. I’m really eager to get my hands on one or both of these (my local Sephora doesn’t have them…..yet; hoping they arrive soon). My local does carry YSL so I really hope I can check these out “in store”.
oops, make that “Rouge Cape” (Red cape was one of the Guerlain ones that I think might no longer be available)
I love the Rouge Volupte Shine and always turn to these no matter how many lipsticks I have. I don’t think these are super popular bc people seem to prefer creamy bordering on thick and/or matte lipsticks, but for me these rule–even if I have to apply them more often
