YSL No Taboo Chili & Illicit Orange Glossy Stains Reviews & Swatches
No Taboo Chili (213)
YSL No Taboo Chili (213) Water Stain Glow Glossy Stain ($38.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a brighter, medium-dark reddish-orange with warm undertones and a glossy finish. It had medium pigmentation in a single layer, which applied fairly evenly and wasn’t as prone to settling into my lip lines as some other shades in the range–enough that it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance.
The consistency had a thinner, more watery feel as it went on but developed in a tackier, more gel-like consistency after a minute or so. I was able to spread out the product evenly in its thinner form, and the thicker form had good adhesion and staying power. It lasted for six hours and felt moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.2 oz. - $190.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be a "lip stain with a luminous, glowy finish" that is hydrating and "long-lasting." Unlike the original Water Stain, which is described as an "intense" and "high-impact color" formula, these are a sheerer offering. The coverage ranged from semi-sheer to more semi-opaque but most were medium in coverage.
The texture was very lightweight, watery, and felt a bit cool and wet as they went on initially. They develop into a tackier, thicker consistency that feels smooth and more substantial, though not heavy, which gives the formula better longevity (six hours or so). They left behind faint stains.
I found it wasn't the easiest formula to work with, and it was extremely reactive to any lingering oils or moisture on my lips prior to application, so it was critical to remove any lip balm and blot dry (even water droplets after drinking water would interfere). The darker shades in the range tended to apply unevenly or settle into lip lines noticeably consistently.
The formula was hydrating and comfortable to wear, though I could taste the floral fragrance whenever I ate/drank.

PPermanent. $38.00.
Illicit Orange (214)
YSL Illicit Orange (214) Water Stain Glow Glossy Stain ($38.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a light-medium orange with strong, warm yellow undertones and a glossy finish. It had medium color coverage that applied evenly and only had a touch of settling along my deeper lip lines, which wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance.
The texture felt lightweight, more watery and thin as I applied and spread it out initially, but the formula developed into a tackier, more gel-like consistency after a minute or so. This shade stayed on well for five and a half hours and felt hydrating while worn.

These lighter ones look much better, and the texture and adhesion sound nice!
These were my favourites. I like to put on a sheer layer of a matte nude lipstick, then some setting powder or eyeshadow in similar colour. Then layering this product in a gradient style in the lips, with a lip brush.
I like this formula and have a few of them but I am not an orange person so these are an easy pass. I also have 66 year old teeth and they always need the help of a cool toned lipstick to look their best, if you know what I mean! I do think my daughter would look great in Taboo Chili so after I finish up stuffing her Advent Calendar, I will pick that up if I have an empty box. It looks beautiful on you, Christine.
Do these have the same scent as YSL’s Rouge Volupte lipsticks? I’m always intrigued by their newer releases, but the heavy mango scent of the lipstick I previously bought from them makes me super nauseous :/
This seemed more floral than fruity to me!
These are far and beyond better than the two from yesterday! No Taboo Chili is my personal favorite. No so sure I could wear it under a mask without creating quite the mess, but I sure wish I could.
I love both of these shades – orangey red is my kind of colour. The ratings for these are much better than those of the other day.
