Urban Decay Vice Hydrating Lipstick Swatches (x35)
Urban Decay Vice Hydrating Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a new, reformulation of Vice Lipstick. The new formula covers three finishes (high shine, cream, and matte) with a total of 35 shades. There are some returning favorites, which seemed fairly similar in color to the last iterations, but most are new shades. Most of the mattes felt like the prior Comfort Mattes with a few being closer to a typical matte (or Mega Matte from the last formula). The Creams seemed comparable to the prior Cream finish, and the High Shine finish is most comparable to the Sheer finish from before (though I’d say the High Shine shades are glossier and more gel-like).
It’ll take me some time to work through and review the shades over the next few weeks, but my initial impressions are that these felt very similar to the Vice Lipstick range that debuted a few years ago.

Cautiously optimistic about these, the cream and comfort mattes from the original Vice formula were some of my favorites — the comfort mattes are honestly some of the only mattes I like to wear. Looking forward to your reviews.
Never cared for the previous iteration. I bought a handful because they had good reviews and I liked the shade choices, but I just did not like the feel of the formula on my lips and never reached for them as a result. Jury is out..
I do see a few shades that I like. In particular: Gridlock, DTLA and Elite.
But; WHERE did all the PURPLES go??? 💜🤷🏻♀️💜
It’s really sad to see my favorite lipstick line and all the fun colors go, even if almost all my colors were already discontinued years ago. I was surprised a personal favorite, Ravenswood, made the cut over imo more iconic colors like Gash, but it makes sense seeing the swatches – they just reused the name for a different color.
Not immediately in love with any, but I’ll be investigating June Gloom and Oatmilk as Walk of Shame substitutes and trying some of those cooler mauves for something new.
They look… fine. Nothing terribly unique.
Gosh these colors are tame and kinda boring honestly. Hardly urban decay legacy
The formula seems better than I expected, so I’m hopeful! And maybe they will eventually release more exciting shades.
Hmmm- liking a few of these: Callback, Hitch Hike, the Big One – very conventional shades and the swatches, overall, look really promising.
Nice to see that there is consistency with the old vice lipsticks (which I really enjoy), but the old ones had more than 100 shade variation…. Now there are 35? Where are the bright funny colours?
I don’t know what to say. They all seem fine, but in an ocean of fine lipsticks from a gazillion of brands, nothing stands out. Sure, I can see some colours I’ll like, Gridlock and Acai for example but I probably have many dupes.
When they reformulated last time, they came out with more finishes, didn’t they? And also a lot more different colours.
I’m not sure this new Vice will make me want to part with my money.
I have bought a lot of the now old Vice as they sold out at a nice discount and I like what I bought and of them being Ravenswood.
I will miss not being able to repurchase some of my favourites like F-Bomb and Gash.
And what did they do with the purples?!
I would love to know what blush you’re wearing in the swatches. You look flawless and glowing! I can’t wait for the reviews on the shades.
These look nice…but I really wish they hadn’t chosen the name “Manic” for a shade. There is a way to discuss mental health/illness…but naming a product “Manic” is not the way to do it. It would be like naming a product “Depressed” or “Anxious.” Hurtful and trivializing an illness that can be devastating.
LOVE the packaging. It’s so much better than their previous packaging – it’s a little edgy and that dusty aubergine kinda colour is gorgeous.
I am very happy that the Vice lipstick quality (on first impression) still appears good and with the whole brand reformulation, that was a big worry. I’m also not too worried about the missing bright colours as I think they will slowly add to this range and the purples will return 🙂
Also massively excited about the shade June Gloom as I just missed out on the pale ‘Walk of Shame’ which left a big hole in my heart.
Disappointed but not surprised that my all-time favorite shade, Gash, has once again been discontinued, but I suppose I can’t be too sad as I made sure to keep two tubes of it in preparation for this very moment. (I have one each of the original and old Vice formulas. They are actually quite different from each other in shade but equally stunning.)
It’s disheartening to see a lack of fun, vibrant colors with this release. Outlandish colors are what made Urban Decay special in the first place. Perhaps we will see more shades released as people begin to wear lipstick again. Even without masks, I have only seen people wearing neutral shades since lockdown ended (in real life. Social media is a different story).
On the plus side, $19 is fair compared to the price of the Revolution lipsticks. I believe those were $23. I prefer the square shape and pointed bullet. I have always loved their metallic packaging. The packaging of the old Vice lipsticks did feel cheap though. It won’t be long until I run out of the old Backtalk, so I will try the new formula with that one, and hopefully resist splurging on multiple shades, like I did with previous launches.
