Urban Decay Sin Mini Naked Palette Review & Swatches
Sin
Urban Decay Sin Naked Your Way Mini Eyeshadow Palette ($29.00 for 0.12 oz.) is another so-so offering from a brand that used to be known for their eyeshadow formula. All six shades were drier, thinner, and/or powdery, which made them best over a smoothing primer. They had light fallout and/or faded faster than typical. Even though Sin and Unlucky had some differentiation to my eye in the pan, they were very similar applied, so I did not see the value of having both in such a small palette.

Formula Overview
$19.00/0.06 oz. - $316.67 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "high-pigment" with "ultra-smooth color payoff with maximum blendability" while being long-wearing. The brand is confusing, as they claim "up to 12 hours."
The majority of the shades I tested were pigmented--semi-opaque to opaque--with the matte finish having the most variance. The lighter matte shades tended to be thinner, more powdery, and sheerer as a result of those texture differences. The more satin-to-pearl shimmer shades tended to be thinner, too, and they sometimes applied more unevenly or had to be built up. The higher-sheen shimmer shades tended to be pigmented, lightly creamy, and blendable with good adhesion.
They wore between eight and nine hours on average, which is solid wear time but similar to a lot of other powder eyeshadows for me, so it wasn't extra long-wearing in context.
In comparison to the last iteration of the brand's eyeshadow formula, it did not feel vastly different. The mattes seemed a little thinner and a touch more powdery, while the shimmers were a touch thicker on average with some of the more pearl-like finishes having weaker coverage and felt too firmly-pressed into the pan and looked thinner on, so they weren't as flattering to wear.

There was a little part of me that wondered whether UD was bringing the old formula back…but the nah….it isn’t the same. And yes, Sin and Unlucky look absolutely identical.
I’m also confused about their bizarre choice of having LITERALLY the same shade, but different names?!? I would have loved a rich burgundy shimmer instead!
Why are they doing this? They know how to make good eye shadow. I assume they’re using cheaper ingredients, or cutting costs somewhere? Are the crappier products selling as well as the good ones used to?
I would have loved to have bought a cute little palette with these colours if they were the same quality as Urban Decay used to be, but I definitely won’t now.
I feel a bit sad these days when I read the UD reviews. Apart from the lipsticks, they don’t seem to do anything well these days. This is the brand that made such good palettes that some of us still use them and really like what they were, once upon a time.
UD come on, get back to making good products that we all will want to buy!
You can blame all that on L’Oreal, the owner of the company. They do this all the time, buy a good company, then cheapen up the products to increase the profit margin.
I do blame them. I don’t get why they buy up brands just to more or less destroy them.
I buy a lot more from indie brands these days, it’s just that I really liked UD once upon a time.
Naming one of your own products BORING….well, I guess they’re hearing what a lot of (former) UD fans are saying about the drek they’re putting out lately! Actually, to be perfectly honest, maybe they should have named it DREADFUL.
Imagine if it was someone who feels that way internally and thought to name a shade boring never expecting it to make it through, LOL.
