Naked Reloaded

Urban Decay Naked Reloaded Eyeshadow Palette ($44.00 for 0.492 oz.) is the newest in the Naked series. It’s intended as a replacement of the original Naked palette, which was discontinued a couple of months ago. It’s less of a one-for-one replacement and just another take on neutral shades. It’s a very warm-toned palette with a mix of yellow, pink/red, and orange undertones running through it.

There were two more glittery shades–Angel Fire and Dreamweaver–which were less impressive without an adhesive base or spray to help them along (for pigmentation, application, and longevity). The formula on the palette feels more like Naked Heat and Naked Cherry, which is a bit drier and/or thinner, so they tend to perform noticeably better with primer than alone.

Also, the packaging seems more like a cardboard-like palette that has a fabric covering, but definitely felt less robust than Naked Heat/Naked Cherry (which are plastic) and also doesn’t have a brush; it is $5 cheaper than Naked Cherry. The fabric may get dirty over time and could be hard to clean (hard to say without longer, more regular use!).

P.S. — You can compare this palette to Anastasia Sultry here. Sultry has a few, fairly distinctive shades (Cyborg, Slate, Rose Quartz, Ember, Twig) that end up giving a different look overall, but they have some overlap so if you tend to go warmer anyway (Teak, Dystopian, Birch, Cinder, Steampunk), then your looks may end up looking more similar regardless of the palette. Sultry is going to have more contrast and depth as well.

Bribe

Bribe is a pale beige with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation in a single layer, though the texture was somewhat dusty in the pan, which made it harder to keep it truly opaque–it tended to have more of a semi-sheer to medium coverage level when applied and blended out on my skin. It wore well for seven hours on me before it started to fade noticeably.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.05 oz. - $380.00 Per Ounce

The formula is typically described as "high-pigment" that "stays on your lids" and goes on "seamlessly." Their permanent range has a lot of fantastic shades in it, and many of them are pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. Some of their matte are real workhorse kind of shades with soft, smooth, silky, and blendable textures, while their shimmers and pearly shades are very rich in payoff and apply beautifully to the lid. They wear between seven and nine hours on me, depending on the shade and finish.

Barely Baked

Barely Baked is a light-medium gold with strong, warm orange undertones and a soft, metallic sheen. It had opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly dusty texture that was thin without being too dry or prone to sheering out. I had no trouble applying or blending out this shade on my lid. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me before I noticed fading.

Angel Fire

Angel Fire is a light, peachy gold base with flecks of gold and pink sparkle. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a slightly drier, more loosely-pressed texture, which led to fallout during application and some excess that kicked up in the pan. I highly recommend using this shade with a dampened brush or an adhesive primer/spray, which will help the eyeshadow apply more evenly, improve pigmentation, and minimize the fallout (both during application as well as during wear). Urban Decay always seems to push these types of shades into palettes, but I wish they had a creamier, denser formula that would do a better job of supporting the sparkle as-is. It lasted for seven and a half hours but had some fallout during wear.

Retro

Retro is a medium-dark, pink-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff that applied nicely to bare skin with a smooth, even application of color that didn’t lose its intensity. The texture was soft, a smidgen dusty in the pan, but didn’t seem to be prone to fallout when I used it on my skin. It stayed on well for eight hours and then started to show signs of fading after.

Reputation

Reputation is a slightly muted, medium-dark copper with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color payoff that adhered well to bare skin with a smooth, even application. The texture felt a little drier, but it didn’t have fallout and blended out nicely without losing its intensity. It wore well for eight hours on me before it started to fade a bit.

Burn (Naked Reloaded)

Burn (Naked Reloaded) is a deeper, red-toned bronze with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, soft, and blendable consistency that was easy to work with, though it was a bit thinner than typical metallic eyeshadows are these days. I noticed slight fading of this shade after eight hours of wear.

End Game

End Game is a deep brown with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The consistency was finely-milled, silky, and blendable without being too powdery nor too firmly pressed in the pan. It wore nicely for eight hours on me before it started to fade noticeably.

Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is a medium, taupe-brown with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of silver micro-sparkle. It had good color coverage in a single layer, which applied better with a dampened brush, as this helped to semooth out the application and mitigate some of the fallout. I would advise using this with an adhesive base or primer to help keep the micro-glitter from raining down throughout the wear. The texture was drier and chunkier to the touch, and I did have fallout during application (even when I was careful) as I blended out the edges. It lasted for seven and a half hours but had moderate fallout over time.

Distilled

Distilled is a light-medium bronze with strong, warm yellow undertones and a sparkling finish. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me before I noticed some signs of wear.

Bucked is a muted, light-medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color coverage that adhered evenly and blended out with ease on my skin. The consistency was soft, lightly powdery in the pan, but it didn’t have fallout during application. It wore nicely for eight hours on me before starting to fade.

Boundaries

Boundaries is a light-medium brown with warm, orange undertones and flecks of gold shimmer strewn throughout a more matte finish. The texture was soft, lightly powdery, but it had some substance to it, which gave it opaque coverage that blended out easily but didn’t sheer out immediately. It lasted well for seven and a half hours before I noticed slight fading.

Blur (Naked Reloaded)

Blur (Naked Reloaded) is a medium, peachy beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium color payoff that was somewhat buildable, but it required an eyeshadow primer to get to full coverage. The texture was soft, powdery, and prone to sheering out on my skin, though it blended out easily along the edges for a very, very blown out look (if desired). It wore well for seven hours on me before fading noticeably.

Hmm, I’m still straddling the proverbial fence on this. I do see it as being a very well coordinated palette with “good” but not “outstanding” quality. Time for me to go swatch the ABH Sultry palette and see if that fulfills my desire (and need) for a neutral palette that more variety of tones between very cool and others leaning warm, but that also received outstanding reviews and is very well loved by many.

The only Urban Decay Naked palette that has a color scheme I like is Smoky, and for me it was very versatile from everyday natural looks to glam smokey eyes. I know many liked better the other palettes, but for my personal taste they are boring (most of the shades are too similar, with no variability) and have too much pink/orange/red/yellow tones (which most times look awful on my complexion).

I wish Urban Decay added more `coolness` in their Naked range.
The Gwen Stefani palette was pretty nice, would like something like that in a Naked palette (if they ditch the pink and gold 😆 , and maybe add some medium toned grey colors, instead of 6 very similar beige transition shades).

And I hope that at some point they make the packaging the same for the line (and change only design / color)… my obsessive compulsive side cringes to see a palette line with different sizes and shapes. 😆

Ana Maria, I also love the Smoky palette but it got a really bum rap – a lot of people really thought it was crummy. It was discontinued quite quickly too, given the longevity of the Nakeds generally. I also loved the original and Naked2, which has truly neutral and versatile cool-toned neutrals. If they d/c that, I would actually buy 1 or 2 backups.

Tatyana Zadorozny Avatar

Me too! Although I might put Naked3 first.

My only issue with the Naked Palettes are the shape and size, for some reason I don’t reach for them as often as other palettes.

I do my makeup on the train to work quite a bit, so I find myself using my smaller palettes far more often.

I must admit, I am not going to buy any colour makeup now unless it is on sale.

There is not one shade in this whole palette that attracts me! If I sound surprised, I am. I usually find at least some shades I like in palettes this big. This makes for a very easy pass!

(Why are the two shades at the ends bigger than the others? Seems like an odd choice.)

This is an OK palette and it’s a shame that Dreamweaver wasn’t better, but I have lots of dupes for my favourite shades here. It doesn’t have the wow factor that the original Naked 1 had and a couple of shades could look fairly simiilar to each other once on the eye.
Thank you for reviewing this palette so quickly Christine and your eye looks are lovely, as usual.

KK Avatar

This one is an easy pass for me coz the colors don’t call me. Neither is Sultry. But I’m totally loving the fact that apart from reviewing the product independently, you also made it a point to address the Elephant in the room and shared your views of this in comparison to sultry.

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

This is the palette I’ve been building for myself for years out of singles and now this and the ABH Sultry palette is an option…. Dang!

I think I need to test them instore to see which one I like more. (aka more pink/peach tones) as I’m having trouble comparing the tones with the swatches. I don’t need both. lol

Helene Avatar

I’m both liking and disliking this palette. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I want to like it. It’s been a long time since UD did a palette I really liked, it was Smoky Naked.
I think I would have loved and bought this 5 or so years ago, but now I have so many similar shades in palettes and singles, though I only had one of the listed dupes as far as I remember the names of all the eye shadows I have.
As it is now, this is an easy pass.

Emilie Avatar

I have every Naked palette so I’m kinda committed to collecting them at this point but I just don’t think I can pull the trigger on this one….. I don’t like the packaging, don’t like that it doesn’t come with a brush, so easily dupable… idk. If it were between this and Sultry I think I’d rather buy Sultry.

I picked up the original Naked on sale (the last one I needed to add to my collection) and I have been totally satisfied with it! It’s become my go-to when I don’t want something too warm. Already have made quite a dent in the mattes.

Krista Avatar

I feel so underwhelmed by this palette. Not even 25% off on UD’s site was enough to tempt me to buy it. It’s just boring to me. Naked 1 was so much more interesting than this palette. There’s nothing special at all about this and there are too many warm toned shades. Please someone put out a cool toned palette! Lol
