Urban Decay Frequency & Halo Lo-Fi Lip Mousse Reviews & Swatches
Frequency
Urban Decay Frequency Lo-Fi Lip Mousse ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a vibrant, medium-dark coral-red with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had buildable coverage from medium to full in three layers. The texture felt dense, clay-like (movable but not wet), and applied as a very lightweight, powder-like product on my lips. The color distributed evenly across my lips and didn’t seem to sit in my lip lines or emphasize my natural texture. This shade lasted well for six hours and didn’t seem to break down with water.

Formula Overview
$22.00/0.12 oz. - $183.33 Per Ounce
Per the brand, the formula is supposed to be "weightless, buildable, [and] waterproof" with a "velvety soft finish that feels like you're wearing nothing." The consistency of the product inside the compact feels like clay--it's drier but malleable, movable with a fingertip that will create a dip while moving the product upward to the outer edge. It feels like a powder when the product gets applied to the lips, which has a drier, clingier feeling, though I wouldn't consider it a drying formula--it was quite lightweight and non-drying over time. A few shades emphasized the natural texture of my lips quite noticeably (Halo being the worst offender) but others applied well and looked like a blotted, matte lipstick. The lipsticks lasted between three and six hours; they do seem to be waterproof and don't break down with drinking water or hot tea, but they don't survive through meals that well.
Each compact opens up with a mirror inside, and there's a doe-foot applicator that removes from the center portion of the compact for on-the-go application. I was not personally enthused with the doe-foot applicator as I found it only useful for getting the cupid's bow but not particularly useful for even application all over my lips. I preferred to use a fingertip to distribute the most product initially and then use the included applicator to get around the edges. For medium coverage, I recommend patting color in three pats on the upper and lower lip, then lightly brush the fingertip across the lips to blend out the product. For sheerer coverage, try patting color along the center of the lips and then rubbing lips together to diffuse the coverage.

Halo
Urban Decay Halo Lo-Fi Lip Mousse ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light pink with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer coverage that built up to medium with three to four layers. The texture was clay-like, where I could push it around, but it had a drier, more velvety feel to the touch. The lipstick applied as a thin, lightweight layer but this shade emphasized every bit of texture I had on my lips, and I could not get the color to apply evenly or build up to full coverage. It lasted for three hours and was non-drying, though it felt clingy while worn.

Halo looks painfully dry. Frequency is pretty, but I have dupes.
It looks worse than it felt, at least!
Frequency is downright lovely! If I didn’t have UD Tilt lipstick, I would absolutely buy this baby! ?
My feelings toward Halo are just the opposite. Having heard both yours and Emily Noel’s experience with the shade and seeing how it looks on you both, this one is one horrid pale pink.
Halo was so bad! 🙁
I see I did in fact choose poorly. It was Halo I got and returned it, for all the reasons you mention.
Halo was definitely the worst of the bunch!
Frequency is so pretty. I still am not sure about this particular product and how dry it looks on the lips but Frequency doesn’t appear dry at all and it doesn’t emphasize your lip lines. I walk a fine line between too dry and so slippy that it gets sucked into my lip lines and up into my upper lip lines. I don’t have any dupes for this shade as it is a color I haven’t really ever been attracted to but I have been eyeing all sorts of these shades lately. It is so pretty on you, Christine but I have shades of lipstick that look beautiful on you that I just can’t wear. I think this one will be a try for me as I really love it.
I checked these lip mousses out in Sephora the other day, and they’re….interesting. I swatched a few of them and they reminded me of the lip powders of yore (anyone remember the Borghese lip powders in the ’80’s?). I just wonder if they’d feel awfully dry on my lips. There are some really pretty shades, though; Frequency is beautiful 🙂
They cling a lot compared to other lipsticks, which feels “dry” to me, but most of them aren’t actually drying over time – like my lips don’t feel awful after wearing them!
