Really digging this new format and I love that you’re revisiting older products by specific company along with your “best of the year” categories. I don’t think I’ve followed you for quite an entire year yet so you might have done that previously and I’m not aware of it but my point remains the same 🙂
I do best of posts for formulas as they make sense, just depends on the brand and whether it’s worth doing or not – e.g. there has to be enough products released / utility in having it composed that way. We have a ton of posts about best [insert formula] that automatically are updated as new shades are reviewed (e.g. UD Vice Lipstick, ABH Eyeshadow)! All of the big launches, whether formulas or collections, get a best of/round-up post after I’ve finished reviewing all the shades I have, though 🙂
I do love your best and worst round-ups! You’re one of the hardest working beauty bloggers on a regular day but you’re working extra hard with these holiday releases! Thank you!
Woman, you are outdoing yourself this year, and we appreciate it!
I actually think I’ve reviewed a little less than last year (at the same point in time) 🙁
It’s not a numbers game, Ms MBA. It’s the quality of the reviews, not the quantity, that we count on. And you always bring it all home.
You have rightly put me in my place, KJH! 🙂
Skin Tone/Coloring: Light neutral skin tone, green eyes, salt & pepper hair
Favorite Look: Since I already listed this week’s favorite look in Thursday’s question, I’ll describe my second favorite look of the week. EYES: MAC single eyeshadows (Kid as transition, Era on lid, Coquette in outer V, Blanc Type on brow bone), Diorshow Brow Styler 04 and Clinique Brow Shaper, Chanel Stylo Yeux Eyeliner in Celadon to tightline upper lashline, Cover Girl Clump Crusher Mascara. FACE: Estée Lauder Double Wear Makeup, Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, Laura Mercier Secret Blurring Powder for Under Eyes, RCMA No Color Powder, ABH Moonchild Glow Kit Lucky Clover on cheekbones, NARS Orgasm Blush. LIPS: NARS Audacious in Barbara.
Most Used Products: Mainly my basics—Diorshow Brow Styler, Clinique Brow Shaper, Estée Lauder Double Wear Makeup, Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, Laura Mercier Secret Blurring Powder for Under Eyes, RCMA No Color Powder, NARS Orgasm Blush.
New Discoveries: I discovered that none of my other highlighters come close to the gorgeousness of Diorskin Nude Luminizer (Pink Glow).
?? ???? ????/????????: Very fair with neutral undertones; magenta/red hair; hazel/green eyes.
???????? ???? ??? ????: My Halloween look. EYES — TFSI; UD Thrash and Freak in the crease and wrapped around the outer corner of the eye, UD Gonzo on the lower lashline, Violet Voss Indigo on the lid (with Flamingo tapped over it in the center). ABH HL in Lucky Clover on the browbone and Blue Moon on the inner corner. UD Eye Pencil in Perversion on upper and lower waterlines. Pacifica Dream Big Mascara. BROWS — ABH e/s single in Love Letter. LIPS — Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Weirdo. CHEEKS — Wet n Wild Zombie Blush. FACE — NYX Angel Veil Mascara. Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick in Alabaster; e.l.f. ???? ???? ??????? ?? ??? ????: Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick in Alabaster. I just didn’t feel like fussing with liquid foundation this week.
??? ??? ?????? ???????????: Kjh had mentioned that the Makeup Revolution red liquid highligher (Blood of My Enemies) got some bad reviews, so I played with mine. I think it’s a dud as a highlighter — the consistency isn’t creamy enough, and it’s not shimmery on the face. It is more the consistency of a liquid cheek stain. However, if one doesn’t mind a bit of sparkle, it works great in that role. It’s pretty on the lips, too.
Love your instas and your aesthetic. Good thing i’m not younger. I still want a red HL, though I could not carry off BOME on either lips or as a blush. Too pink for me. I want red red. If it weren’t just a glitter fest, I think the red in the Grinch palette might do it for me. Going to have to blend up one.
Let me know when you find one that works. I’m curious what you’ll come up with.
My skin tone/coloring:
light, MAC NC 15-20, med brown hair and eyes
Favorite look you wore:
ABH Sultry. Put Slate in the crease. Blended out w Birch. Packed Cyborg on the eyelid. Cargo Swimmables Eyeliner in Pebble Beach eyeliner on the upper lashline. Tarte Lights, Camera and Lashes Mascara. Clinique Nude Pop Blush. Clinique Tenderheart lipstick.
Most used product of the week:
Loreal True Match Concealer. MAC Brow Pencil in Fling. Tarte Lights, Camera and Lashes Mascara. Clinique Nude Pop Blush. Palladio Rice Pressed Powder. Cargo Swimmables Eyeliner in Pebble Beach. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal. MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Pressed Powder.
Any new beauty discoveries:
I’m not impressed with the quality of the PML holiday palettes and find them very overrated. Sorry. And I think I’m passing LE HUDA Obsessions palettes and the RMS Luminizers. Seeing stuff in person really has changed my mind w some things!
Some really fabulous offerings from PMG and Colour Pop this week.
My skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones.
Favourite look you wore: I went for a completely cool toned look this week using Guerlain’s Les Gris – soft blue on the mobile lid, darker blue shade on the lower lid, the matte grey in the crease and the shimmery silver in the corners. Paired it with a berry lipstick – EA Cranberry Cream.
Most used product of the week: My navy blue mascara from Innoxa, plus all of my staples.
Any new beauty discoveries: Not really this week.
I have one of the “old” Guerlain quads in “Les Fumes”. It’s so good and I wish they’d not discontinued it. Is yours also an “oldie” that is no longer available? I need to check out that EA lipstick!
My skin tone/coloring: cool/pink undertone
Favorite look you wore: Using a lot of purples/mauves right now in my make up and my wardrobe as well.
Most used product of the week: PMG Blitztrance lipsticks, OMG these are delicious, they have such a 3D look on your lips, she sure has me wrapped around her little finger.
Any new beauty discoveries The PMG lipstick kit that I received this week. I also picked up a package of Quo magnetic eyelashes to try, $12 CAD, such a steal. Hopefully they will be easy to apply.
I am on a trip to Spain and decided to bring a basic kit with me. I put together a Z palette with the Chanel Candeur et Experience quad (3 brown and 1 red matte), a peach Nyx single, and two warm shimmers from Viseart Theory Minx and that’s what I have been wearing. I was not sure I would have good lighting so I wanted something that I knew I. oils not overdo. It’s been the Chanel light brown from crease to brow, the medium in the crease, and the dark in the deep crease and outer V. On my lid either the red or the peach and one of the shimmers in the inner corner. Kat Von D tatoo liner in the dark brown and Buxom black mascara. Undereyes I am using my regular L’Oreal skin smoother, UD peach corrector and Tarte creaseless concealer.
I depotted the blush, contour and translucent powders from thr Emily Needs palette. The powder is okay for setting under my eyes but the blush is hard to blend. Altogether the Needs palette is unimpressive.
I have not seen makeup here that I have not seen in the US. They have Sephora, Kiko, and Nyx freestanding stores. The big department store carries Bourjois, a French drugstore line that used to be at US Sephora but no more. They shine at drugstore priced skincare but since none of it is CF, I am not buying any. And the sunscreens here are superior to the US because the best ingredients don’t have FDA approval. US is way behind on sunscreen technology.
skin tone/coloring: Vampire pale with pink undertones
Favorite look you wore: A peach smokey eye with the Jeffree Star Blood Sugar Palette. Got this palette Friday and have done two really funky looks for the weekend. I’m excited to try out some nude and natural looks with the palette during the work week, but had to dive into the pinks and reds during my days away from the office.
Most used product of the week: Pat McGrath Bronze Temptation palette. So glad I decided to pick this one up. It’s become my go-to for work and for days when I’m not feeling creative but still want to look like I totally know what I’m doing with my eye makeup.
Any new beauty discoveries: Lip Trip lip balm. Been on the hunt for a lip balm that actually works during the dry winters, stays on my lips for more than an hour, and doesn’t have a slick shiny texture. This stuff is INCREDIBLE. And it dries down matte!! I rarely wear lipstick and really don’t like glossy or shiny lips, since I always go pretty intense with my eye makeup. I’ve been wearing this for a week and my lips look so normal and healthy now I’m blown away – for the last month they were really dry/chapped and in bad shape.
My skin tone/coloring: fair, cool
Favorite look you wore: that old Aqualillies for Tarte palette – Parasol on the mobile lid, Hammock on the outer V and Sundeck in the crease and to blend the darker brown of Hammock and Sephora Cappuccino to line with Marc Jacobs skinny liner on upper waterline; MAC Rhubarb on my cheeks (just so I’ll get some use from it) and Craving on my lips (I really should be the poster girl for Craving lipstick!). Dior Forever Perfect Foundation (it works so well and applies so easily and quickly for me that I’ve worn it every day)
Most used product of the week: ABH Dystopian and the shadows from the Aqualillies for Tarte palette (I’ve even worn them successfully without e/s primer, which absolutely astonished me; I tried it one day when I wasn’t working and the shadows lasted all day)
Any new beauty discoveries: Laura Mercier eyeshadow stick (Caviar Stick?) in Khaki; rediscovery of the Aqualillies palette.
Skintone- Light, BB sand for reference
Favorite look- I’d say today, I wore the It cosmetics undereye, used a sample of YSL concealer in almond on red spots, BB fresh melon pot rouge on cheeks, TF terra bronzer( used almost every day and every day is a pot rouge- pale pink more often than not). Chantecaille rose petales highlighter from several holidays ago, TF full screen mascara( just ordered a new one during Sephora sale), lips I went between the Cle de Peau balm, Stila Isbelle tinted balm and TF Daniel( one of my sons, but I do really like the color! and the son!) I also used the Nars tinted primer in light which I like by itself and put a little TM shell on top.
Most used- KA brow pencil, mascara, undereye, the blush/bronzer this is the minimum Also the Givenchy loose powder on forehead and nose only.
New discoveries- I rediscovered the Stila in a drawer today and I have ordered a few things from the various sales but haven’t received/played with yet.
Not nec a favorite, but had a Tim Gunn eye moment, (make it work!) trying to use a couple of Christine Fs in a look. Nars Queen shadow pencil: presumably it’s green, but it comes out clearish with random glitter particles. And it is so terrible, I never got another Nars eye pencil of any type! It works quite well over LM caviar sticks, just scatters a few glitters over a pretty plain base. Colored up with another F, the mufe ? Aqua magic stick in I-30, a chartreuse as liner and outer vee. I forget what less than satisfactory crease color was used, probably something from the Chloe Morello haul. Actually got compliments and questions about how to get such little, random glitter…and had myself a good laugh. Green HL and masc weren’t Fs, though!
My skin tone/coloring: Fair with neutral undertones and freckles, green/gray/blue eyes, warm brown hair
Favorite look you wore: I did a pretty coppery bronze look using the Tarte Chrome Paint Pot in Park Avenue Princess. I always forget how intensely metallic those singles are.
Most used product of the week: I’m back on my Missha BB cream. I used to apply it with a brush, but I love the finish so much more with a dampened beauty sponge.
Any new beauty discoveries: The First Aid Beauty Bendy Avocado concealer. It hasn’t taken the place of my Bare Minerals concealer, as it doesn’t have as much coverage as I would like, but it blends out beautifully, is very brightening, and is great for more natural make up days.
