Too Faced x Kat Von D Better Together Ultimate Eye Collection Review, Photos, Swatches

Ultimate Eye Collection

Too Faced x Kat Von D Better Together Ultimate Eye Collection ($65.00 for 0.71 oz.) includes two palettes that “lock” together magnetically. Each palette has six eyeshadows, and the set of palettes also came with a black liquid eyeliner and full-sized black mascara. The palette was decent, but the shades released by both brands are the kind that we have definitely seen before so if you’re already a fan of both brands, you might have palettes with these shades already.

BFF

BFF is a light beige with subtle, yellowish undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that had some excess product kicked up in the pan. The eyeshadow wore well for seven hours before fading.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, PTFE, Zinc Stearate, Sodium Saccharin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid, Vanillin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder/Theobroma Cacao Fruit Powder, Poloxamer 338, Silica. May Contain (+/-): Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Ultramarines (CI 77007).

Lovely

Lovely is a light-medium pink with cool, bluish undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a thin, dusty texture that was prone to sheering out. The color wore for just over seven hours before fading.

Friendspiration

Friendspiration is a medium-dark copper with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The pigmentation was opaque, while the texture was fairly smooth, a touch loose in the pan, but applied well and blended out without any issues. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, PTFE, Zinc Stearate, Sodium Saccharin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid, Vanillin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder/Theobroma Cacao Fruit Powder, Poloxamer 338, Silica. Heart of Gold

Heart of Gold is a medium green with warm, olive undertones and a frosted finish. It had good color coverage with a fairly soft, blendable texture with just some dustiness in the pan (but it seemed fine once on the lid and blended out). This shade started to fade after seven hours of wear.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, PTFE, Zinc Stearate, Sodium Saccharin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid, Vanillin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder/Theobroma Cacao Fruit Powder, Poloxamer 338, Silica. Power Couple

Power Couple is a dark brown with warm undertones and flecks of copper sparkle. The texture was thinner and a bit firm in the pan, and while I was able to get good pigmentation out of it, the color was hard to diffuse along the edges as it had a tendency to really adhere strongly wherever it was initially applied. It wore for just over seven and a half hours on me.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, PTFE, Zinc Stearate, Sodium Saccharin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid, Vanillin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder/Theobroma Cacao Fruit Powder, Poloxamer 338, Silica. May Contain (+/-): Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Ultramarines (CI 77007).

Better Together

Better Together is a muted, dusty taupe with warm undertones and a pearly shimmer. It had good pigmentation with a soft, slightly loose consistency in the pan. It applied evenly and blended out nicely, though it only lasted for seven hours on me.

Yours

Yours is a dark gray with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had medium coverage that was somewhat buildable. The texture was slightly dusty, but it was blendable on the lid. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Darling

Darling is a light-medium pewter with warmer, brown undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The consistency was chunkier and looser in the pan, so there was fallout when I worked with this shade (even when I was careful). It had good pigmentation, though, and when I used a flat, synthetic brush and pressed the powder onto the lid, it seemed to adhere the best. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading.

Por Vida

Por Vida is a bright white with neutral undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation, which was buildable to opaque coverage with two to three layers, but the texture was dustier, so it was harder to keep it opaque without a primer for the product to adhere to. This shade stayed on nicely for seven and a half hours.

Devotion

Devotion is a medium-dark black with neutral undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff with a slightly firmer texture. It took some extra effort to diffuse and even out the product on the lid, though if I only used it to darken another shade, it wasn’t problematic. This shade wore well for eight hours on me.

Swoon (Better Together)

Swoon (Better Together) is a rich red with warm, orange undertones and a pearly sheen. It had fantastic pigmentation that applied smoothly and evenly to bare skin. This was the best shade between the two palettes–hands down. The texture was smooth, dense without being stiff, and easy to blend. The color stayed on well for eight hours.

Lovestruck

Lovestruck is a light-medium, yellowed peach with a sparkling finish. The consistency was chunky, as this shade had a lot of loose, larger glitter/sparkle in it, which made it harder to apply evenly and resulted in fallout when I blended it. It had decent color payoff, at least, but I would use this with a glitter adhesive or a damp brush to minimize its problems. It wore for just over seven and a half hours on me.

The only shade in either palette I would like to have is Swoon. Fortunately I have the Sleek Sunset palette, so it serves up a couple of decent dupes.

While I see some really nice shades in here, I am convinced that I either own dupes or can very easily dupe those I don’t already own. Would much rather have seen more out of the box shades like Swoon! (I think I’ve even got a dupe of that in my Sugarpill Feline Fancy palette!)

This “collab” seemed really forced and the packaging – it’s not exactly elegant and the heart shape really goes against the whole KvD vibe. Still, I nearly bought it just for the colour Heart of Gold. All the close dupes are LE shades that I don’t have and all the available shades aren’t close enough to stop me wanting it but I am finally developing at least a trace of self-discipline so I can resist buying this thing for that one shade.

It seemed like it came out pretty organically, but I think they could have done a better job / something more interesting, at least!

Uh, Ocher Pink single, please! Wishlist forever. Despite having Sonic….and CP ought to bring back Harley. Idk why grays are so hard to do….. this doesn’t really appeal to me. Sorry, Kat, will wait for the restock of pastel goth on your dedicated website.

The small photo that should be Swoon next tot he grade seems way more pink than Swoon shows in the swatch photos, is it just me? My interest in this collab was purely for Kat Von D’s side, Im so torn on buying it just for her side.

Sorry about that – apparently Swoon was already released but as a different color, so I have fixed it but it took me longer than it should have. I am very sorry for the screw up!

I really like the Darling and Heart of Gold shades, but somehow I think this is a random mix of colours. Anyway, it’s a pretty set of shades and generally the quality is good.

I swatched this in store, thought Swoon was gorgeous, best shade by far, wish it came in a single. Thought the rest were a mixed bag, and thought the color combos were a bit of an odd couple, hard for me to figure out how to make both palettes work together. With that said, it’s a cute set, and it’s nice to read the positive messages on the packaging. It’s nice to see competitors/brand founders respect and admire each other

I agree. I feel like for two such creative brands that have such distinct identities and also have detailed packaging that together they could have done something really amazing and awesome when they worked together on a project.
This seems very random and disjointed to me. Neither is better for having been together with the other they just did their own thing same as always and literally stuck the palettes together. I wish they could have at least had one palette with a common theme even if they each had their own shadows in it. Something with multiple possible looks that play off each other and blended packaging and design. A kvd tattoo design of a typical too faced decoration would be awesome like if she drew the packaging (tf hearts and flowers a

I only like two of the eyeshadows in this, one from either side, Swoon and Heart of Gold. I don’t have the Sunset palette, but I think I’ll get it, it has some very useful shades in it. I’ll probably buy the first available dupe for Heart of Gold, even if it’s not all that close. I do refuse to buy a palette with 12 eyeshadows to get two of them. Of course if the palette should prove to be more economig to get than to get the Sleek palette and the HoG dupe, I might still buy it. I guess I’ll have to do some little easy calculating. 🙂

Updating myself, I have a not very close, but still dupe for Heart of Gold. I do have the Garden of Eden palette from Sleek, so I just need to get the Sunset one. Yay! 🙂
Oh, and economic, I don’t understand how sloppy my typing is. Sorry for that!

Wish the two sides were a bit more cohesive, I can see it being difficult for me to put together a look from these shades. I was super excited to hear about this collab but in all I’m just a little disappointed…
