Rainbow Strobe

Too Faced Rainbow Strobe Rainbow Effect Highlighter ($30.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a light gold with strong, yellow undertones and a sparkling finish. I found that the pigmentation of the yellow and gold were strong, but the aqua and lavender were very weak with the coral somewhere in-between, which I expect is why it was dominated by a light gold color overall. Swirled together, it had good pigmentation with a sparkling, drier consistency that had a tendency to sheer out on the skin. It wore well for seven hours but had noticeable sparkle migration during the day.

While there were multiple stripes of color, I really could not get them to appear individually on my cheek bones, even when using a dense, flat brush (not Too Faced’s but ones similar in shape). They just… ran together… and sheered out quite a bit due to the drier, chunkier texture. I tried using my fingertip just to try and get a swatch of the shades as a rainbow, and again, it just looked like glittering gold with a few cooler flecks of shimmer toward the bottom.

Yikes.. why does Too Faced do this. They keep releasing really kitsch products that really seem like it could be children’s play makeup. I wouldn’t mind the playfulness of it if the product was actually well performing because I’m sure I would probably buy it. I hope their next releases will be better!

I was done with the unicorn/mermaid craze about a week after it first took off (am I officially getting old? Is that it? Oh dear), but if you’re going to go colourful and bold, at least make your product perform well. At some point it just feels like exploiting a gimmick and perhaps a younger audience who will soon move on to the next trend and forget all about the misses in these collections.
