Gingerbread Spice

Too Faced Gingerbread Spice 18-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.43 oz.) is a new, limited edition eyeshadow palette with a mix of warmer neutrals with a slightly pinker, rosier leaning across mattes, shimmers, and more glittery/sparkly shades. I was impressed by the palette–it was a good balance of mattes and shimmers, light and mid-tone shades (I could have gone with one or two deeper shades), and offered a variety of possible looks. The quality was good overall with only one shade being harder to work with (Frostbite Me, which was more like a layering, glittery eyeshadow) and a few of the mattes needing to be built up to get full coverage (which is very workable for most people).

I didn’t get much gingerbread-esque scent–more like a sweet, vanilla but it was less noticeable compared to some of the brand’s past scented products. I didn’t notice the scent once the eyeshadows were applied to my eyes.

Powdered Sugar

Powdered Sugar is a pale beige with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery texture, but it was thicker than the average Too Faced matte shade, so I felt like it applied better to bare skin and didn’t have as much fallout nor was it as prone to sheering out too quickly. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Dimethicone, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract/Oryza Sativa Extract, Lauroyl Lysine, Zinc Stearate, Fragrance/Parfum, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Aluminum Dimyristate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Phenoxyethanol, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Sorbic Acid, Poloxamer 338, Silica, Methicone, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

Spiked Eggnog

Spiked Eggnog is a bright, light-medium gold with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The color payoff was opaque in a single layer, while the eyeshadow felt smooth, lightly creamy, and was dense without being stiff in the pan. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably on me.

Ingredients

Mica, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Boron Nitride, Zinc Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine, Talc, Fragrance/Parfum, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid, Tin Oxide, Aluminum Dimyristate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491).

Gumdrop is a rich fuchsia pink with cool undertones and a satin finish. The pigmentation was fantastic with opaque coverage that adhered evenly to bare skin. Ingredients

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Mica, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Fragrance/Parfum, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Tin Oxide, Phenoxyethanol, Aluminum Dimyristate, Sorbic Acid, Carmine (CI 75470), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

Gingerbread is a muted, medium-dark brown with stronger, warm orange undertones and a matte finish. It stayed on well for eight hours before it started to fade on me.

Warm and Toasty is a rich, molten gold with strong,w arm undertones and a metallic sheen. The pigmentation was incredibly rich with a smooth, creamy texture that was thicker and denser than average but not in a way that emphasized my lid texture or was difficult to apply. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before creasing faintly.

Ingredients

Mica, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract/Oryza Sativa Extract, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Dimethicone, Zinc Stearate, Fragrance/Parfum, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid, Aluminum Dimyristate, Tin Oxide, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491).

Frostbite Me

Frostbite Me is a pale, off-white with subtle, warm undertones and a chunky, glittery finish. It had more of a translucent base with a chunkier, very glittery consistency where the eyeshadow came away from the surface of the pan in clumps. I used a flat, synthetic brush (MAC 247) to apply it to my inner tearduct, and by pressing it onto the area, I was able to get minimal fallout and semi-opaque coverage in one go. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours but had some fallout over time, so I’d recommend using this with an adhesive base.

Ingredients

Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Mica, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract/Oryza Sativa Extract, Talc, Zinc Stearate, Dimethicone, Fragrance/Parfum, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Tin Oxide, Sorbic Acid, Magnesium Stearate, Carmine (CI 75470), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Manganese Violet (CI 77742).

Lookie at My Cookie

Lookie at My Cookie is a soft, pink-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin without sheering out too readily. The eyeshadow had slight dustiness in the pan, but it blended out easily in practice. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before I noticed fading.

Ingredients

Spice is Nice

Spice is Nice is a rich orange with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent color payoff in one stroke that applied well to bare skin with even, smooth coverage that was easy to diffuse along the edges. The texture was soft and velvety without being powdery or too thin, with the latter often being an issue with the brand’s mattes (for me). This shade lasted nicely for eight hours on me before it started to fade.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Dimethicone, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract/Oryza Sativa Extract, Lauroyl Lysine, Zinc Stearate, Fragrance/Parfum, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Aluminum Dimyristate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Phenoxyethanol, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Sorbic Acid, Poloxamer 338, Silica, Methicone, Carmine (CI 75470). Oh Snap

Oh Snap is a medium-dark coral with strong,w arm undertones and gold micro-glitter over a matte base. The eyeshadow had good pigmentation but was drier and a bit firmer in the pan, so it was one of the weaker shades in the palette. The addition of micro-sparkle meant that most of the sparkles didn’t translate as there was nothing to help them bind with the underlying powder. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Dimethicone, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract/Oryza Sativa Extract, Lauroyl Lysine, Zinc Stearate, Fragrance/Parfum, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Aluminum Dimyristate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Sorbic Acid, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Poloxamer 338, Silica, Carmine (CI 75470), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

Bake It Til You Make It

Bake It Til You Make It is a medium-dark bronze with warm, rosy undertones and a metallic sheen. It had rich, opaque pigmentation with a lightly creamy consistency that wasn’t too dense nor too softly pressed in the pan, so it picked up easily with my brush but adhered beautifully to bare skin. The color wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Ingredients

Sugar Daddy

Sugar Daddy is a soft pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff in a single layer with a soft, lightly powdery texture that was a bit drier and thinner compared to the other mattes in the palette. As a blending or transition shade, it worked well but as a lid shade, it had a tendency to look a bit uneven. It stayed on nicely for seven hours on me before I noticed signs of fading.

Figgy Pudding is a muted, medium-dark berry with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer on top. The texture was soft, blendable, and a smidgen dusty in the pan but I had no trouble getting true-to-pan color and intensity on my lid. It wore well for eight hours before it started to fade on me.

Hot Toddy

Hot Toddy is a medium plum with strong, copper undertones and a cooler pink sheen paired with a metallic finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in one layer, while the consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and had a bit of slip–felt more silicone-heavy compared to most of the other shades. It applied most evenly with a flat, synthetic brush and pressing it onto my lid, as this yielded good, even coverage with little fuss. It blended out easily along the edges and lasted for just over eight hours on me.

Spiced Rum

Spiced Rum is a medium-dark bronze with soft, warm undertones and a glittery finish. The consistency was more loosely pressed, and I found that it was quite pigmented to the point where a little went a long way, so using less still yielded the higher coverage but ensured minimal fallout. This shade was most foolproof when used with a dampened brush or fingertip, though. It lasted well on my lid for eight hours and had slight fallout over time.

Ingredients

Stunning high quality palette right here for anyone who does not already have these shades strewn across their own personal stash! If I did not already own Viseart Tryst, UD Beached, Born to Run and Heavy Metal palettes, plus some other shades of MAC singles, I would try this one out. I do not see sodium saccharin listed in the ingredient list. So, if I were to think about buying it, I would literally swatch the product and put it on my tongue. If it has sodium saccharin in it, I would taste it immediately.

AB Avatar

Nancy — I’ve been meaning to express gratitude for your advocacy on the sulfa/sodium saccharin allergy topic.
I had a rather severe eyelid irritation issue late last year, and thanks to you I realized it might be due to my having worn TF peach mattes palette shadows almost every day for weeks. After discontinuing use of any TF shadows and a prescription steroid cream treatment, I haven’t had the issue since.

Nancy T Avatar

AB, no problem! Because so many people do have sulfa allergies, I believe that the decision to use sodium saccharin in any cosmetic formula that will come into direct contact with mucus membranes is a highly irresponsible decision for TF and other cosmetic companies to make. Especially when done without providing a clear allergen warning!

Sonia Avatar

Dear Nancy, As someone who suffered through a pretty bad reaction to a sulfa allergy as a child, thank you for this PSA. I had absolutely no idea that sodium saccharin is a sulfonamide. Good thing I bucked the trend of too faced food themed palettes.

JJ Avatar

I think that as someone who suffers from life threatening allegories, it irresponsible to push our problems it on to a company. I dont think any company is responsible for making a product specifically for me, and i think its strange people get irritated other wise. Like, what if restaurants stopped cooking food with…….. vegetables. Thats the example i use, allergies can be so generic.

Sonia Avatar

Well I agree with you, it’s silly to expect businesses to put up with a made-up illness like your “Allegories”.

Now with allergies, that can be actually life threatening. And, most restaurants do put warnings on their menu about possible allergens in their menu items. They don’t entirely stop using those ingredients. So your example is nonsensical. No ones asking businesses to bend over backwards to accommodate people with allergies but a warning is important. And that’s what people are expecting here.

Nicole D Avatar

It’s a beautiful selection of colours but the fragrance always kept me away from the TF palettes. My eyes become watery in seconds and they remain watery as long as I keep the ESs on. If this palette is available in the Sephora stores in Canada (for the moment it’s not), I need to try the shades on my eyes to see how I react. Never had any issues of this type with the eyeshadows, only with the TF.

I like Jerrod and his product so much better, when he is adulting. Great to see! Let’s hope tf keeps it up. The Holiday peach stuff has been a big improvement, as well. I think there are still some offshore mfg’d less than desirable tf this season, but some of the recent palettes have been wonderful.

This looks soo nice!! But it’s so sad that whenever Too faced releases something worth having they seem to make it limited for the US market only… It was the same it seems with the cartoon inspired palette that came out a year ago or so… From what I have understood hearing it from different youtubers this too is a US only item…? Why, for the life of me I cannot understand… I mean Christmas I celebrated everywhere and this is by far more interesting than any other Christmas releases they have ever made that they pollute the entire world with…
The Gingerbread and the Gingerbread man is even of European origin, so why it is not released here I do not understand.

My hope is it is misinformation and that it will launch also world wide or at least also in Europe. If any one knows, please share your intel!!

I live in the US but am going to Europe next week. If you’d like, I can purchase this and mail it to you once I get there. I know I’m a stranger on the internet but I promise I’m not a crazy person and will not show up at your house. 🙂 email me at whythirteenwhy@gmail.com if you’re interested.

Beautiful palette, but I truly just want the bottom row, and if Two Faced had released a 9-pan palette with the pink/bronze shimmer shade, the purple shimmer, and the orange matte I would have been all in. Luckily, I have dupes so this is a skip for me.

I bought this palette and the two minis (tickled peach & sugar cookie). Believe it or not, the minis are the same quality, imo. TF has really upped its game, so maybe the Chocolate Gold palette’s success tipped them off on what to do? I love, love, love the gingerbread palette, I haven’t felt able to say that about TF in a while! p.s. did anyone else break down and buy the Natasha Denona Gold palette sight unseen, *and* before the VIB sale :P??

My eyeshadow palette collection isn’t as so extensive that I can dupe everything and I’m so tempted to get this shipped to my country, tax duties or third-party shipper handling fees be damned. I’m such a fan of Too Faced palettes ever since I bought the Sweet Peach palette, which Christine rated so much lower than this palette (which I find to be accurate for the most part as that palette’s pigmentation was a bit lackluster on my medium skin) and if this had better ratings surely I’ll end up enjoying this palette more! I’m a little scared that they won’t make this available in our Sephora because I would love to get my hands on it. Here’s to hoping it will.

Hi Christine
Happy Friday! I made a duplicate Gingerbread palette looking thru dupes on your list. It took a few days and nights. Lol
All singles and I am almost done with a DIY z palette! All thanks to your hard work!!
So huge thank you:)
I’m inspired to try out some other palettes. I don’t own any palettes from ABH, Colorpop, Tarte. Huda. Sephora. MAC, Too faced or anythingfrom Becca. Mainly because of your ratings ok a big part. Haha
I own tons of UD and meteorites. I still haven’t found highlighters or bronzers.
You have inspired me. I wanted to take a moment to say thanks and never retire. Marie

Quick question if I have an off the topic question, would I send you an email?
