Too Faced Drop Dead Red Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.23 fl. oz.) is described as a “matte deep mulberry.” It’s a dark, muted burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly. The texture was thin and quick to dry down. It looked slightly “cracked” when I smiled, and the color came away in very small flakes (almost like powder) after three hours of wear, though the color was mostly intact for closer to five hours. The formula was drying for me. KVD Beauty Damned (P, $20.00) is darker (90% similar). ColourPop Chola (LE, $7.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Velvet Rebellion (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). NARS Spin Me (P, $26.00) is warmer (95% similar). Sephora Auburn Prestige (98) (P, $14.00) is brighter (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Griselda (P, $18.00) is cooler, glossier (90% similar). ColourPop Mamacita (DC, $6.50) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Self Portrait (LE, $21.00) is cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Chateau (P, $6.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Thousand Percent (LE, $6.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Dose of Colors Saváge (LE, $18.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). KVD Beauty Homegirl (P, $19.00) is cooler, glossier (85% similar). Urban Decay Blackmail (DC, $18.00) is darker, cooler, glossier (80% similar). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Anita (DC, $18.00) is glossier (90% similar). Anastasia Bohemian (P, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). KVD Beauty Vampira (P, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Too Faced Evil Twin Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.23 fl. oz.) is described as a “matte deep black cherry.” It’s a blackened purple with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that went on evenly and was very, very quick to dry down. The formula felt lightweight, but it instantly “cracked” when I moved my lips. The color flaked and crumbled off slowly but surely over five hours. The formula was fairly drying. NARS Paint It Black (P, $26.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Uniformly Fabulous (P, $21.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Blackmail (P, $18.00) is lighter (85% similar). Kaleidos Siren (P, $12.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Kaleidos Scorpion Fruit (P, $12.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). NARS Train Bleu (P, $27.00) is lighter (80% similar). MAC Smoked Purple (P, $19.00) is lighter (80% similar). Fenty Beauty Undefeated (P, $24.00) is lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

FORMULA OVERVIEW | Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.23 fl. oz.) is supposed to apply l ike a gloss but dry to “an ultra-matte, opaque finish” that is “never dry, shriveled, or cracked” that should “last for hours.” Most of the shades are unforgiving once they dry down and emphasize lip lines, look “cracked” if you smile, though they feel lighter-weight than they look. It’s one of the more unflattering liquid lipsticks I have tried as many shades highlighted lip lines, and while the lipstick itself wasn’t extremely clingy, there was a dryness present there that, at times, made my lips tingle/ache. For me, the wear was between four and six hours, as a lot of the shades faded unevenly and were faster to breakdown than the average liquid lipstick. The formula is thin, more water-like (reminded me of ColourPop’s formula but sometimes thinner) with a fairly quick dry-down time.

I am constantly impressed at how carefully considered your presentation is. In this case, how important the close up is. The far shots look pretty great, but the truth is in the close up..and the narrative. T is transparency and honesty at its best. So much is photoshopped…looking at you, MUG, amongst others. This issue is a disappointment, and you always give us good alternatives.

I like the color Drop Dead Red, but cracking and flaking is big no-no. And Evil Twin looks awful with the cracking. If they couldn’t get these colors right, they should have just skipped them. In fact, this whole line is unnecessary as there are better formulas out there, market is over saturated with liquid lipsticks

Oh my, how could they ruin Drop Dead Red by making such a lovely shade have a formula that is drying and worse yet, flakes off and cracks??? Yesterday, I wore a similar shade that had zero issues; Ofra Mina Longlasting Liquid lipstick. Compared to these, comfy, NO cracks or flaking, my lips felt great for 5 hours! 5 hours compared to KVD where I only could stand how it felt for 2 1/2 hours is MAJOR for me.

Love your makeup except the lips. If I wore it, I would constantly lick my dry lips. Of course, the color is too dark for my complexion.

I think I am over the liquid matte trend. Too many are just uncomfortable and prone to flakes no matter how rich the color payoff. There are plenty of great matte traditional lipsticks from NYX to NARS that don’t cause so much trouble. I wouldn’t be too surprised if by summer everyone is begging for a light gloss or balm.
