Tom Ford Pink Tease, Pussycat, Plum Lush Lip Color Matte Review, Photos, Swatches

Tom Ford Pink Tease (03) Lip Color Matte

Tom Ford Lip Color Matte ($50.00 for 0.10 oz.) debuted late last year, and there are six shades that are permanent to the Tom Ford range. They’re described as a “velvet matte” lipstick that delivers “richly pigmented hues.” They’re not an ultra-matte, so they are more forgiving, and the texture is lightweight, velvety, and creamy enough that there’s no dragging or tugging at the lips. You’ll notice that the edges of the lip color are rather crisp, and this can be hard to achieve without a lip brush with drier formulations. All three shades were easy to apply, richly pigmented, longer-wearing, and comfortable to wear. The formula is vanilla-scented but had no discernible taste.

Tom Ford Pink Tease (03) Lip Color Matte ($50.00 for 0.10 oz.) is light-medium pink with subtle, yellow undertones and a satin finish. it had rich, opaque pigmentation with a lightly creamy, glide-on consistency that felt smooth and went on evenly without sliding around. On me, this color wore well for four and a half hours and was slightly hydrating over time, but some of the color pulled into lip lines slightly after three and a half hours of wear. Bobbi Brown Pink Kiss (P, $26.00) is warmer, lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Pow (600) (P, $28.00) is lighter, cooler-toned, more matte. Bite Beauty Sweety (LE, $24.00) is brighter, cooler-toned. MAC Please Me (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches

Tom Ford Pussycat (04) Lip Color Matte ($50.00 for 0.10 oz.) is muted, pinky-plum with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had full color coverage that went on evenly and didn’t drag on the lips. This was more matte than Pink Tease, which may have been why it lasted for five hours. It wasn’t drying, but it wasn’t hydrating either. It seemed to be more a unique shade (partially due to the finish) relative to what I’ve personally tried over the years. MAC Nouvelle Vogue (LE, $16.00) is lighter, pinker. MAC Private Party (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Tom Ford Plum Lush (05) Lip Color Matte ($50.00 for 0.10 oz.) is brightened, medium-dark raspberry pink with cool undertones and a satin-matte finish. It was intensely pigmented and covered lips beautifully. I thought this was a more matte texture that made my lips look smoother, which is harder to find. It wore well for six hours, left a stain behind, and was a smidgen hydrating. Chanel La Romanesque (50) (P, $34.00) is lighter, pinker. Tom Ford Beauty Cooper (LE, $32.00) is more fuchsia, bluer-based. Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner (608) (P, $28.00) is slightly darker. MAC Pleasure Bomb (LE, $16.00) is pinker. Guerlain Provocative (863) (LE, $51.00) is redder. MAC Heaux (LE, $16.00) is darker, less pink. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Hi Michala – I recently bought my first TF lipsticks and I must say they are well worth it. A little goes a long way, they fade (ever so slowly) leaving a nice, even stain, and I never need to use a lip pencil with them as they line and fill my lips perfectly.

A word of warning though: their quality actually set a new standard for me which is both a blessing and curse! They made me reconsider any other lipstick I want to buy…which so far has been a good thing.

Pussycat is so, so pretty! Of course I love Plum Lush, those kinds of shades always look good on me, but pink pinks that really flatter me are oddly hard to find. I think Pussycat may be just dark enough and just cool enough to really work. Do I dare order it sight unseen? At least Nordstrom has a great return policy!

I tried these. I thought they were too drying. My favorite was when it came out in 2012 Holiday color jasmine Rouge and it was matte. Wasn’t drying.

I love Pussycat and Plum Lush. TBH, the only shade I didn’t buy was the Pink Tease, doesn’t suit my coloring. But I was very pleased with the formula. My lips weren’t beat up or dried out by the end of the day. Love how Plum Lush looks on you! Think my favorite of all these new matte lipsticks is Ruby Rush. That is such a gorgeous red.

I found that Black Dahlia and Velvet Cherry needed a lipliner since it was more sheer than I expected. And First Time … well, I think I bought that one more because it was LE, and haven’t really found it to work on me. Maybe if I use a lipliner to fill in my lips to slightly change the color. 🙁

I love Tom Ford matte (I’m probably a minority here). I have Velvet Chery, Black Dhalia and Pussy Cat. I am thinking to save up for Plum Lush and Ruby Rush. They are beautiful colors and last a long time (4-5 hrs on me vs 1 hr for regular lipstick). You are now enable me to get more:) Have a good weekend and thx for all the hard works during the holiday 😉

A close dupe to Pussycat is Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lip Color in Roseberry. In fact, I put TF Pussycat on my bottom lip and SK Roseberry on my top lip, and they looked very similar except that SK Roseberry was slightly more shiny and TF Pussycat looked more flat (even though at least one blogger said it was semi-matte). After a few hours, SK Roseberry felt more moisturizing and TF Pussycat felt drying and looked dried in certain spots of my lip. I ended up returning Pussycat.

Plum Lush goes straight on my wish list! What can I say? Temptalia made me do it 🙂 I like Pussycat as well, but I know I’ll always love a brighter shade more than a muted one.

Pami Avatar

Pussycat looks like it might be a MLBB shade on me, perfect for everyday though I’m not generally a matte lover. Hope you find a dupe sometime that isn’t matte.

Plum Lush is indeed gorgeous, but I cannot get over how much I love Pussycat! No matter where I see it, in arm swatches or on lips, no matter what skintone, I just love it! 😀

It looks so beautiful on you – just different enough to be striking and interesting, but at the same time it’s sort of neutralish and pretty and ‘everyday gorgeous’. 🙂 Augh!

Jillian Avatar

The more I look a Pussycat, the more I *really* like it! At first glance it didn’t look like much, but I keep going back to it.
Added to the Lust List for 2016, when I resume my makeup buys after my “low-no buy” year this year 🙂

I thought Pussycat would be similar to NARS Anna, but maybe not. These three colors are absolutely beautiful. Plum Lush would be a treat to have!

Pussycat is gorgeous and reminds me of NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Milan. I wish you’d review more of those! Milan, Antwerp, and Amsterdam are my favorites.

Pussycat is fantastic. I really like them all. Plum Lush is actually quite different than I was expecting from the tube color. I just can’t imagine me paying $50 for a lipstick. Yikes!

beka Avatar

i only have black dahlia and pussycat from the matte collection. i love them both, but pussycat is such such a unique, but easy wear shade. i often throw it on when i don’t know what else to wear. i will definitely be getting more of tom ford’s matte lipsticks. i would have more already, but i got distracted by lips and boys. flame was going to be my next one, but plum lush looks really nice.

Nicole Avatar

Plum lush and Pussy cat are beautiful and I can see why they would be hard to get a closer dupe. Very unigue. Oh so feminine and prettiness. I have been coveting a rouge G and when it comes to clicking that button, I can’t seem to do it. $50 for a lipstick seems like a lot to me! I wish they would make these in the size of the lip and Boys..that’s much more doable!

Bonnie Avatar

I picked up Pussycat when TF Mattes were released. Major splurge for new, but it has been worth every penny. I’ve gotten lots of use out of it because it’s such an easy color to wear. Seeing the Plum Lush swatches and A+ rating is really tempting me to try another.

CJ Avatar

I would have just thought to myself that Pussycat was a nice color but too expensive and moved on to your next post, but your Lips and Boys reviews intrigued me and I tried Julian and loved it. I bought Casablanca after that and have worn it every day since, so I think I’m going to go for it!

Shari Avatar

Pussycat looks like the perfect color for me, because I love neutral plummy-rose colors. However, $50 is unjustifiable for a single lipstick. I wouldn’t consider the MAC dupes because I refuse to buy cruelty-free, but I found two other dupes for more reasonable prices. NARS Audacious Anna is a slightly muted and cooler version of Tom Ford Pussycat, and Colourpop Lumiere (I hope a review is coming soon) is kind of in between Anna and Pussycat in terms of brightness and tone.

Barbara Avatar

just love pussycat, hope i’ll find it soon in japan too! regarding the review, i tryed to notify you there’s a discordance between the description in the “product information” and the “review” but it always says “error”, so i think it can be useful posting it down here. (hope it doesn’t bother you)
Colour: PEACH (Product Information) vs PINKY-PLUM (review)
Undertone: WARM (P.I.) vs COOL (review)
hope you’ll find a more affordable dupe, as the other ones were limited editions! ç_ç
