Tom Ford Metallic Denim Eye Color Quad Review & Swatches
Metallic Denim
Tom Ford Beauty Metallic Denim Eye Color Quad ($88.00 for 0.35 oz.) includes two warmer, shimmery neutral hues with two deeper, more intense shimmery hues. The third shade looks bluer in the pan than in practice, as the base was quite dark and charcoal-like. The formula on three of the four shades felt a little drier and thinner with less slip compared to most of the brand’s gel-powder eyeshadows. This resulted in sheerer coverage, fallout, and/or less longevity.

Metallic Denim #1
Metallic Denim #1 is a light gold with moderate, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. It had sheer color coverage applied dry and more medium coverage applied with a dampened brush or a fingertip, but it was a departure from the gel-powder hybrid formulation, which tends to be smoother and more pigmented.
There was a dryness present, likely due to the larger flecks of sparkle in it, and this functioned more as a brightening or layering shade to add sparkle. It lasted for eight hours but had light fallout over time.

Metallic Denim #2
Metallic Denim #2 is a light-medium, golden bronze with warmer undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was soft, smooth, and moderately-dense, but it was a little drier compared to the usual formula, so I had a little fallout. It had opaque color payoff applied wet as well as dry. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Metallic Denim #3
Metallic Denim #3 had more of a deep, charcoal base with bluish-teal pearl and fine sparkle throughout. It had semi-opaque color payoff applied with a dry brush and more opaque, higher-shine coverage with a dampened brush.
The consistency was drier, more powdery, which was unexpected as this formula tends to have good glide and a little creaminess to it, so I had some issues with fallout and the color looking more faded on my skin from the get-go. It stayed on decently for seven hours before fading visibly.

Metallic Denim #4
Metallic Denim #4 is an intense black base with flecks of fine, silver sparkle throughout. It had opaque pigmentation regardless of dry or wet application, and the product adhered well to bare skin with very minimal fallout when blended out along the edges.
The texture was moderately dense, smooth, and had light slip, though it still felt a little drier than expected based on past experience with this formula. It lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.

$110 Canadian for such mediocrity and two ratings in the C range. I like shade 2 especially (big surprise) but I have dupes for it and probably for the other shades as well.
Well, I was hoping that blue shade would be the standout, seeing as the palette is named after it.
I can see the sparkly beige being sheer and applying it with a finger, but the blue needs to perform. Le sigh.
I’m ok with this palette performing subpage. I’ve got the Pat McGrath Interstellar quad (from the Celestial Divinity Luxe Quad trio) and though slightly warmer, it’s a similar idea and outperforms this offering by a mile. It would have been a sorta dupe.
Disappointed at how poorly the blue shade performed. Had higher hopes for it and thought it would be a good fall shade.
Too bad the packaging couldn’t be redone a little. More of the other three shades and maybe half the black.
I wore this palette yesterday and really liked the look I got. I wore the blue and black on the out lid winged out and the lighter colors on the middle and inner eye corner. It was an easy look, was on the fence but I guess I’ll keep this palette.
Oh, Christine, no! I have been lusting after this one hard core, so this is a bit disappointing. The swatches still look pretty good though, and I’m a decent bit fairer than you, so I’m not completely talked out of it. Have you seen any similar palettes to this one, other than that Dior one (that one just goes a little too teal for me)?
Pat McGrath Interstellar, though it doesn’t have the sparkling black shade.
Ooh good call. I almost bought that one during a recent sale, but went with the Fleur Fantasia instead. Thank you!
Been saying it for awhile, but I do believe that some of the wet/dry palettes have something different about them. As if they’ve been experimenting with their formula. Or that there has been a decline in the quality of these particular type of shadows within the brand.
Have you tried Body Heat? I love it so much. It blends beautifully for me and I’ve been playing with some fun looks for fall. (And I got it from Costco!)
At first glance I thought this was a beautiful quad, but now that I have seen the swatches, it is less so. The first shade was far too pale and almost lacking a distinct colour that it would not show up on my fair toned eyes. The second and third shades were lovely, but the formula was not.
And having an intense black shade in there, just ruined the quad for me.
I agree with your comment about sparkly black. I’m just a smidgen darker or maybe just peach colored than you. If you have a recommendation for a great bronzy shade and teal, spill the beans, please!
This is a beautiful quad. It’s a shame the formula isn’t as luxe as the brand name Tom Ford would imply.
When both Temptalia & Michele Wang dislike this, I know this is a definite no buy for me. Lol Thanks so much for another through review Christine! I don’t comment often but I do read every post!
