Tom Ford Cocoa Mirage Eye Color Quad Review, Photos, Swatches

Tom Ford Cocoa Mirage Eyeshadow Quad

Tom Ford Cocoa Mirage Eyeshadow Quad ($80.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a set of four neutral-hued shades where three have a matte finish and one is a shimmer. The mattes were better-performing than the shimmer, which is usually not the case, and they were easy to work with as they were smooth and silky, which made blending effortless. The wear was good at seven and a half to eight hours across all four shades. I felt like the shimmery shade ran drier and sheerer, and at this price point, that can be a deal-breaker.

Cocoa Mirage #1 is a light, yellowed beige with a matte finish. It had good pigmentation, but the texture veered on the powdery side for me, even though it certainly had that silky feel to it as well. It wore well for seven and a half hours before it faded. Sephora Puppy Love (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). LORAC Cool Taupe (Mega Pro 4) (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). KVD Beauty Moulder (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). MAC Glamour Light (LE, $17.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Sephora Secret Boudoir (206) (P, $9.00) is more muted (95% similar). Too Faced Good Girl (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler (95% similar). Cocoa Mirage #2 is a muted, medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency had a really silky, finely-milled feel to it that made it seem like velvet on the skin, and it blended out easily without losing its pigmentation. On me, the color wore well without fading for eight hours. Sephora Flax (LE, ) is cooler (95% similar). Smashbox Feature (PiP, ) is brighter (95% similar). Tarte Wanderer (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). NYX Underneath It All (P, $4.50) is darker (95% similar). Tarte Hazelnut Bon Bons (LE, ) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Gucci Beauty Tuscan Storm #3 (DC, ) is warmer (90% similar). Too Faced Skinny Latte (LE, $16.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). LORAC Lt. Brown (PiP, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Cocoa Mirage #3 is a medium-dark, coppery-brown with warm, red undertones and fine gold shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a lightly dry consistency. It could have applied better, as it tended to sheer out on the skin. The color lasted for seven and a half hours before fading. Tom Ford Beauty Iris Bronze #3 (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Clinique Ample Amber (P, $17.00) is lighter (95% similar). Make Up For Ever S606 Pinky Earth (P, $17.00) is darker (95% similar). Cocoa Mirage #4 is a dark, chocoalte brown with warm, reddish undertones and a matte finish. The texture is soft, silky, smooth, and very blendable. This is such a gorgeous palette and I’ve been waiting for you to review this. At $80, I would really hope for an A+. I’m still not sure if I’m going to buy it. This is going to be my thinking piece, I can tell. It’s so nice, but the price and the dupability make me ponder if I really wan to plunk down this $ for it now. On the other hand, I received a $100 Nordstrom note yesterday (sale damage). But, that could come in handy around the Holidays. Oh…such dilemmas!

Nicole Avatar

Good questions to keep in mind for any palette. I could see myself wearing this probably daily during the week and it would be so easy to have something to pair with Nude Dip (which I adore) but find it a needs some matte grounding for the daytime . On top of all of that, I have Good Mood all ready, so I could easily duplicate this luscious look you created! It screams fall. I’m ready for some sweaters and boots now! 🙂
Oh..I think I am about to kiss my Nordy’s note goodbye!

I own every single quad that TF puts out, and this one is easily the top three! Actually, I often use the top two shades as my face highlight/contour, they are both effortless, so I always tend to grab this when I am on the go. The size of the eyeshadow pans are really big, so I never thought they are expensive when you work out the math…especially this quad! Because each shade is just so useful in many ways

Nicole Avatar

I have to hear the response to this! I think I have acquired a Tom ford addiction. But, so far have only acquired Nude Dip as far as the quads go. I am going to order this one today. So, I’m curious to see which ones are would be worth saving up for next!

Based on my personal taste, the top 3 within the regular quads would be Orchid Haze (my first purchase ever from TF and that was love first sight! I blame it for getting me sucked into the whole TF line… ), Cocoa Mirage and Golden Mink. They are not unique but the colors flatter my warm-toned complexion the most and I usually stick with neutrals.

In Asia the most popular ones that constantly out of stock are Golden Mink and Seductive Rose, though I think the 2 glitter shades in each of them are too similar and too much to own both. And the remaining shades are easily dupable. Like Wayne Goss often said regarding TF products, “unless you got the money to burn.,.”

But if we just talk about quality, I highly recommand Sahara Haze and Titanium Smoke. They are both quite smokey, so I only wear them on special occasions.

Dani Avatar

I am pulling it out now…Ok! I think it is a beautiful combination of pinks and purples! Haven’t had the chance to wear this recently but I remember how beautiful it was when applied! The darkest matte shade is not so good in quality though, a little powdery and dry, but I don’t recall it being hard to work with in actual use…And the others are all very good! I would recommand this to anyone who love this kind of color scheme.

Dani Avatar

No problem! I think I forgot to mention another favorite, Silvered Topaz, a cool-toned neutral but somehow still very flattering on my warmer complexion. I like to use it during the summer time, it cools me down lol. This is the odd thing about TF eyeshadows, the formula and/or color may not be the top of the world or the most unique, but somehow they work. They work together beautifully and most of the time you don’t need to bring other shades outside the quad. Nothing else will give you this kind of feeling. I guess it’s this feeling that you are paying for. When you pick it up and start doing your makeup, you feel like a star. That’s whole point of makeup right?! Plus, like I said, it’s not that expensive if you work out the math…I know Temptalia has her strict way of judging eyeshadows and I am totally into, but from my personal angle, TF eyeshadows are my favorite.

Oooh, that’s a pretty one! My wallet is starting to panic looking at all these TF shadows LOL Glad you love them so much, always great to find something you love and makes you look great.

Susan Avatar

Same. I own most of them and this is by far one of my favorites. I wear it a lot. In fact, since I have owned this I just don’t really have much interest in other neutrals. I am an NC/NW (neutral) 15 and it does not pull too warm on me. With primer it will last a good 12 hours or so for me and I don’t find a lot of shadows that don’t crease or fade. It all goes to show YMMV when it comes to products. I do love your reviews as you have kept me from buying things I would regret. I like the fact that you are super diligent about your reviews.

Jess Avatar

Very pretty set of warm neutrals. Surprising that the shimmer is the underperformer!

Just a small bit of feedback about the new website: I personally miss having the glossovers BEFORE the Continue Reading button. I like skimming the glossovers to know what I’m in for before reading the full review, and the new layout forces me to scroll down and then back up. I’m guessing that you made the change because many people wanted it, but I thought I’d add my $0.02 in case other people have made similar comments! Otherwise the new layout is very user-friendly and clean. 🙂

The colors all look like they would go perfectly together – the look you created is beautiful. This is exactly my style, warm browns. Also, I’m a sucker for TF’s packaging! Looks like a gorgeous quad.

Staci Avatar

I bought nude dip. It was nice, but I returned it. I just can’t do these prices. I have similar shades that perform just as well. Maybe if shades were super unique I could do it.

Katherine T. Avatar

The swatches look absolutely gorgeous, but $80 is painful. I’m sure I have dupes in my stash, but not all in one kit, and I like that it’s not too warm colored. This would be a workhorse palette, good for everyday or business travel. Stores sometimes have 20-30% off deals (ebates + store promo), so I might cave one day

rashmi Avatar

This looks like an awesome palette and something I would justify buying / splurging 🙂
I will surely keep this in mind …. the shades are well coordinated and to me it is like a complete palette and now I can see the hype around this 🙂

andddd
so excited to see GOOD MOOD , I picked that last week and am loving it , how beautiful it is looking with browns on eyes

Nancy T Avatar

Oh my gosh!!! This is beautiful! If I didn’t already have dupes for 3 out of these 4, I really WOULD absolutely try to nab this one! And also, because I have dupes; thank you for giving us this stunning eye look, Christine! I’m inspired to replicate it, perhaps today!

Nancy T Avatar

Ok, so using UD Foxy, MAC Soft Brown & Sable, and Lorac Sable from the Pro Palette, and adding my own little extra bit of Lorac Undiscovered in the inner tear duct, I did it this up today! Lined with Sephora’s Go For A Ride, very Fall feeling and my eyes look bright green!

eileen Avatar

One of TF’s original eyeshadow quads, this has become a classic because it works so beautifully on its own or with other eyeshadow selections. It can take center stage or play in the background. It is a basic workhorse. Expensive? Yes, but you get a whopping 10 grams of product and so the price isn’t really that steep–if you’re going to be using it on a regular basis.

Candice Avatar

Wow these shades are gorgeous especially together in a quad! Too warm for me and I don’t buy in this price point but I still love this. Maybe I’d splurge someday on a cooler toned neutral quad that gives me the wow effect this one has.

Amalia Avatar

Yes! I’ve been waiting for you to review this! When I swatched it in store I saw the dupe- ability. Also the price, my instinct and what I learned from your block, kept me away. Thank you for having you in my strategy guide LOL!

Emily Avatar

Wow, is this combination perfect for your eye color or what?! I always have to remind myself not to be swayed by how things look on YOU… they don’t look the same on me, after all! General comment: agree it’s too expensive (with too many dupes) to be worth getting, but I am just stunned at how the colors pick up the shades in your irises. Thanks to your extra-large photos and my terrible eyesight, I actually know what your eyes look like better than my own… how silly. Anyway, gorgeous look.

Pearl Avatar

I caved and bought it! I’m a little nervous straying from my beloved MAC (and possibly creating a new addiction) but with all the glowing praise I decided it would be worth it. It should arrive next week and I’m so excited!
