Tom Ford Opale Cream Color for Eyes
Tom Ford Opale Cream Color for Eyes

Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes ($45.00 for 0.17 oz.) has eight new shades for spring. According to Tom Ford PR, the Cream Color for Eyes shades are limited edition, though a couple of stores/counters have said differently (and some have agreed). Worth noting, the jars are different and contain less, while the price has increased; the shade released last spring was $42 for 0.21 oz. and these are $45 for 0.17 oz. The jar is slightly taller with a shorter diameter. Practically speaking, I don’t think the missing amount is going to be “felt” by the user as they have been rather large, but I was disappointed to see the squeeze on both ends–price and quantity.

The Cream Color for Eyes formula is supposed to be “ultra-pigmented” and “metallic” with a “creamy formula” that doesn’t “crease or smudge.” The majority of the shades I’ve tried in the range live up to those things–good pigmentation but can be applied sheerly (use less and/or apply with a fluffy brush) or kept opaque (a little goes a long way) with eight to twelve hours of wear (no primer). They’re blendable and dry down fast enough not to crease too easily while you’re working on them but not so quickly that they don’t budge. I did find that a couple of the new shades were more emollient than past shades and did have a longer dry down time and were harder to keep out of creases (in this review, that would be Siren Blue).

Tom Ford Siren Blue Cream Color for Eyes ($45.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a medium-dark, aqua blue with cool undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation with a creamy consistency that had a wetter feel than most shades I’ve tried in this formula. The dry down took longer, and it was hard to keep from gathering in the creases when I tried using it on my inner corner/lid area; when I tried it on the outer lid, I had less trouble. Once it set, I didn’t get further creasing or movement until eight and a half hours later.

Tom Ford Burnished Copper Cream Color for Eyes ($45.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a dark, olive green with warm, brown undertones and a metallic sheen with faint gold micro-sparkle. It was intensely pigmented, and a little went a very, very long way. The texture was creamy without being too wet, but it still blended out well. The color lasted for ten hours before creasing slightly. Urban Decay Stash (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tom Ford Opale Cream Color for Eyes ($45.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a light, golden beige with warm undertones and a sparkling, shimmer finish. It had good pigmentation with a creamy, lightweight consistency that applied well and blended out nicely, though some of the sparkle dropped below the lid as it dried down and was blended. However, once it dries down (and you’re not rubbing off the sparkles with a brush), there didn’t appear to be fall out while worn. It lasted for eight and a half hours before lightly creasing on me. NARS L'Amour, Toujours L'Amour #2 (DC, $25.00) is lighter (95% similar). Smashbox Flirt (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Platinum Cream Color for Eyes ($45.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a medium-dark taupe brown with warm, reddish undertones and a frosted sheen. It was noticeably warmer with stronger red tones than the one I have from before. It still had great coverage with a creamy, blendable texture that wore well for ten hours before lightly creasing, but the undertone difference was noticeable. MAC Force of Nature #1 (LE, $21.00) is less glossy (90% similar). Sleek MakeUP Paradise on Earth (PiP, $9.99) is lighter (95% similar). Oh my gosh, Burnished Copper is stunning, but I have 4 of the dupes already from GA, TF, Chanel, and MUFE. Guess, I’m a big fan of this color LOL . I’m going to have to swatch in store to see if it’s different enough to buy, but I sure wish they had shrank the price along with the amount. I have Tom Ford Spring cream shadow, will last a lifetime, and I will need to be reincarnated as a makeup artist to finish it up.

Wednesday Avatar

I love the old platinum for its temperature neutrality so I will not be looking at picking up the new.
I wish the single layer swatches of Siren blue looked far better than they do, but know I have to have and will work with it because I do not have anything in a cream product in this colour.
I’m not big on Burnished Copper or Opale: easy pass.

Jamie Avatar

I received my three yesterday, and I was pissed at the price increase and the size. I didn’t realize the price increase and the reduction in quantity until I opened my package up.

Tanya Avatar

Any chance you could please post a swatch comparison of the old vs new Platinum. There’s only one swatch listed in the swatch gallery and I’m curious to see how the difference in the pot actually translates on skin.
Thanks for the great work you do!

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh no, I just realized how much warmer the new Platinum is to the old one! I missed out on Platinum when it originally launched and was so looking forward to it coming back, but it’s been warmed up, still pretty but not the same

Dani Avatar

I would be totally up for a smaller jar of these cream colors. You can’t finish them in 3 life times, they are so intensely pigmented, a tiny tiny dab is more than enough for one application in daily life. But the increase of the price is so not cool. That being said, I might still pick up some of them, especially Sphinx, that color looks insane. I am looking forward to your review on the other four Christine!

Angelica Avatar

I don’t like paying more and getting less but I did wanted some of the new shades. So, I pre-ordered mine as soon as they were listed on TF’s website and I haven’t receive then yet. I emailed TF twice and even called but them haven’t contacted me. I just want an update on my order 🙁 Next time, I’ll just wait for the collection to show up at Neiman’s.

Joy Avatar

WOOHOO!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I am so glad you now have these up! I’m stocked on both older iterations of platinum and spice but jumped on the rest! Just not caviar, have that too. My friend told me about the size/price and I was so happy I didn’t need to buy all of them, but a change in formula is not fair for those who never had the chance. I’ve been playing since mid January. I’ve not encountered any problems building them or having any not set right. I read that you did and i felt sad. You still made it work and your eye looks gorgeous!!! For me, using the tiniest dab and building up from there is how I use them anyway so maybe that’s why I’ve had no issues? I’m smitten with Siren Blue. Happy you rated Burnished Copper so well! I’m in love there too! For anyone who has dupes but can afford these: You won’t finish a jar and this formula is THE BEST you could apply in any color! IMHO. If you’re on the dance go for it! I don’t believe in dupes for TF Cream color. I’m eager for your feelings on 2 other loves. Sphinx and Midnight Violet! I do prefer the tinier jars. They are adorable. $42 for a lifetime shadow pays itself off making it a deal in my book. The finish is too good. My mom is very finicky and won’t wear much color. She says she’s old and it’s not appropriate. ? Valentine’s is introducing her to a cream color! We’ll see if she can complain now! Oh happy day! Night Sky is befriending Siren Blue and Opale for a simple Ombre blue multi dimensional eye today! Love these so much! If anybody struggles with liner, these will provide a lifetime of cream liner! So many ways to use them that are budge proof. ? Such a pretty eye you have!

Joy Avatar

?I sorry. I remember you reviewed Night Sky as being off too. I use that thing for liner eyeshadow with and without powder shadow duo Love it. No difference for me. I prime eyes always with UDPP. Could be why it applies different? Siren still makes a siren of your eye. My spice has a thicker feel than any. It is no new. Platinum not new. My spice is how say not thick but Richer Denser. Weird. Single shadows from many brands nearing $40 a pop so I won’t complain. It’s a deal. If can trust family friends hygiene then everyone chip in monies makes it very cheap. Still lasts lifetime. Ha! You have such pretty eyes btw.

Karla Avatar

Well, just saw the swatches of the old platinum and compared it to the new one, and its still a beautiful color, so i will still get it, i only have golden peach and naked bronze and i adore them, btw i been wanting to buy a Tom Ford blush but im torn between Ravish and Savage, im same skin tone as you Christine, so when you wear ravish doesnt it pull out too much pink? Or with savage, doesnt it turn too brown on the skin, like a bronzer?Tx

Joy Avatar

Hi Karla! I’m white pale. TF blush is soft build able. Any color will work with anyone. It’s like magic. I use wicked and ravish the most! Wicked is a perfect flush on me. I control it very easy That’s why they are very good. Easy! No work needed. Ravish gives me a snow burned look. Not too much at all! Flush is not too bright! Lightly it’s pretty. Not my favorite as other two. If you deciding between savage and ravish Go with the color you enjoy most. They don’t disappoint. Only wallets. Ha

Tiffany Avatar

Christine, thank you for the review. I just wanted to let you and your other readers know that I saw these on bloomingdales.com and they’re going for $40, instead of $45! I am not sure if it is an error that they might catch and fix soon, but I ordered 4 of them today!

Jen Avatar

Wow these all look gorgeous! I’ve already preordered Siren Blue and Sphinx. Can’t wait to try them. I already have most of the cream and celestial eyeshadow duos from a previous summer collection, as well as Platinum and Spice in the individual pots…and I have to say that the Tom Ford cream eyeshadow formula is one of the best if not the very best cream shadow formula I’ve ever used. It has incredible colour payoff and amazing staying power in comparison to other formulas, even other luxury ones, like Chanel illusion d’ombre. Clearly, I’m in love with the TF formula LOL <3

Nika2799 Avatar

I pre-ordered 3 of these through Tomford.com .The colors Sphnix,Midnight Violet, and Platinum.I wanted Opale and Siren Blue but they sold out on pre-order when I tried to check out.I emailed Tom Ford customer service several times asking them to restock the pre-order which I had seen them do with Sphinx,I asked for a definitive release date because I had searched the web and could not find a date.No answer about the date was sent to me the only response I got was they didn’t know if they were able to restock the cream colors again. So I constantly checked their website looking for pre-order to end when it did I called the NY Tom Ford store they transferred me to beauty no one answered and I got a voicemail box that was full.So I proceeded to call Chicago and was able to purchase Opale and Siren Blue but was charged 15 dollars for shipping which is messed up because shipping from their website is free.It was an extremely frustrating experience.I checked their website today and they have both colors available now.According to their customer service email they were unsure if any of the colors would be restocked!I want to order Burnished Copper,Spice(could compare to the cream color part of the Spring 2015 duo in Naked Bronze),and Caviar but I felt they were similar to the cream colors included in TF’s Spring 2015 cream/powder shadow release do you think the colors in some of those duos are close enough dupes for these Christine?

Joy Avatar

I’m not Christine. You can order them at many department stores and get ebates! Of the 3025 duos Caviar is same as Oyster duo and Naked bronze same as spice. Google images. Comparisons are available so you can decide. Burnished Copper so pretty! If you still are wanting. Bergdorf, Bloomingdales, Neimans, Nordstrom, all have them. Free shipping. I went to get extras for gifts when ebates cash back was good. Bergdorf was great with a back order. 3 day difference. Hop you find answers And get wanted cream colors!

Genevieve Avatar

Just love your eye look Christine – beautiful. But these cream eye shadows are so expensive and really there are lots and lots of dupes out there. Opale was most disappointing because it is such a pale colour. And the Burnished Copper has really got olive undertones to it – which I love.

Vanessa Avatar

I love the look you created! Siren Blue is very pretty, but I have Milani Bella Teal and UD Liar, (I’m pretty sure I have some more dupes too!), so I’m set. Bummer the price went up but the size is smaller! For less than the price of 2, I could get one of their new quad palettes!

P Jill Avatar

Hmm I ordered Platinum, but may have to get the blue before it disappears! It looks so beautiful with your brown eyes!
I am unable to pull off any olive green shadows. I am curious whether or not you also have the “sphinx” shade, and how similar that one is to TF “pink haze”.
I am anxiously awaiting my order from TF and am overjoyed that they have restocked the Honeymoon quartet.

Pearl Avatar

Yay for B or better! I just got these save for Platinum in the mail a few days ago! Have I opened and used them yet? No because then they wouldn’t be pretty and new anymore 😐 I’ll get over it though and am going to try some out this weekend. Maybe.

Meredith Avatar

Gorgeous! I purchased Siren Blue as I love teal shadows, and Opale. A touch of teal brings life to my eyes and Opale is like my skin but better. Cream formulas are less itchy on my dry skin too. Wonderful.

Melissa Avatar

I love siren blue! The fact that there is an excellent Milani dupe for it MAKES ME EVEN HAPPIER! Haha!
I can see the platinum colour worker for medium-olive skin tones. Opale is gorgeous, but it looks similar to the highlighters I have… Well.. time to order the gorgeous dupe! Woo!

Ann Avatar

Sorry to bother you 🙁 One more question please.
I am looking for a good high end powder foundation for casual day use with nuetral under tones. What would you recommend.
