The Scarlet Season: Chanel Audace Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Audace Rouge Allure Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a fiery, orange-based bright red in Chanel’s ultra pigmented, moisturizing Rouge Allure formula. Unlike Passion, this is distinctly orange-based whereas Passion is blue-based. I really love when a brand has both (and even more so when they have a pretty neutral red available, too!), because I know some prefer orange-red while others prefer blue-red! (I lean towards blue-red myself.) When I first tested this shade, I thought it was similar to Chanel’s Coromandel Rouge Allure Laque, but it’s not as deep, seems lighter, and doesn’t have shimmer, so they are different enough.

What about you? Would you wear this red?

The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

nice colour! ot, but, have you tried d&g lipstick in drama? i got it today, it’s soo beautiful! it’s a deep mauve-plum with the most stunning gold sparkly frost finish, & it’s very pigmented

Beautiful Springtime red! It looks decidedly pinkish-coral on me. I mostly prefer blue-based reds too, but the few occasions that I’ve worn this I’ve loved it.

Wow, Christine – this is positively gorgeous! So electric! I think blue/neutral-red is more RED on my skintone since the orange-based ones tend to end up looking kind of strawberry on me, but I do love a good electric orange-red. Laura Mercier Poppy stickgloss and Dior Addict High Shine Gipsy Rouge are my favorites though I think they’re a good bit sheerer & glossier than this one.

(I love this series btw – I really hope you keep it up after the holidays! Maybe different nudes or pinks next?)

Christine, these look great on you. I am a little disappointed that it seems as though you showcase really high-priced brands – Chanel, Dior and Guerlain, YSL in particular. I refuse to pay $30 plus for a lipstick and I can’t justify it, but I don’t wear drugstore makeup either. In this economy, can’t you try to give equal time to less $$ brands, such as Victoria’s Secret (really great lip products), MAC (I know you love them!), Clinique, Lancome, UD, and even Flirt, etc.? Their quality is great, imo.

Hi Carmen,

I’m not sure what you mean, because all of those brands get coverage and as much opportunity as any other brand. In fact, both Dior and YSL are much less represented than Lancome, MAC, or Urban Decay. I don’t even think I’ve reviewed a YSL product in quite awhile, actually. I don’t know how much more MAC coverage you are looking for, as we currently cover all new launches in-depth, as well as other posts that focus on some of their permanent products (e.g. how to use a certain pairing).

Just in the Scarlet Season, we’ve already covered the following:

I have this and I have to say that it’s a fantastic colour. Somehow when applied, this lipstick colour is darker than in yours 😛

Maybe it’s my skin colour and my lips are already on a pink-ier side on it’s own. ;D
