Best & Worst of Huda Beauty Precious Stones Obsessions Palettes

Huda Beauty Precious Stones Obsessions Palettes

For the fall/winter, five new variations in the Huda Beauty Obsessions Palette ($27.00 for 0.45 oz.) range launched in a collection dubbed “Precious Stones.” Each palette is inspired by a stone, and the color scheme of each palette is reflected by that.  I loved the concept but found the execution to be more hit and miss than the brand’s permanent Obsessions palettes, which I’ve enjoyed. The shimmers used throughout are denser and thicker compared to past iterations–creamier and more silicone-heavy but in a way that doesn’t play as well with brushes or more diffused/blended application (but will swatch great with fingertips). The mattes seemed a bit drier and thinner with pigmentation being more medium to semi-opaque (often buildable).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! And wouldn’t you know the one I wanted and bought was the worst, boohoo! I’m going to have to make this baby work somehow. 😉 So far it’s my only holiday-ish palette. Natasha Denona’s Cranberry is getting poor reviews so I’m not a happy camper at the moment.

I haven’t tried the original Beauty Obsessions palettes so I can’t compare the quality to the Precious Stones palettes. I did buy the Emerald Obsessions palette. I tried it for the first time yesterday. I really liked the look that I got from it. I thought the matte colors blended easily and the shimmers were really pretty. However, I have to agree that the shimmery colors go on better with fingers than a brush. But I prefer to put shimmery colors on with my finger anyway so that wasn’t a negative for me.

$27 for 9 shadows is actually a decent price (if you’re not trying to compete with drugstore), and while these could have been better, I think they’re fine for what they are and the whole concept (the way the colors are broken down) is nice. It still bugs me that some of the palettes had “kicker” colors and some didn’t, but that’s just my deep-seated need for consistency rearing its ugly head. I’m still considering the green palette, but I’m hesitant because green is a challenging color for me. Which is why I want the green palette. [smh]

I agree – for the price point, the color scheme, and how compact it all is? They aren’t bad. I think they’re a bit of a let-down compared to how good they started out, though, but someone who uses primer or will use a fingertip/damp brush to apply shimmers to get them to their liking? Worth it for sure.

I got off the plane in Missoula, returning from our vacation and due to some mishaps on the way home, I wanted some retail therapy. My daughter and I headed to Sephora to get all of these palettes since we had seen them on IG while we were gone. We neither one purchased a single one of them. I know some shadows apply better than they swatch and others swach better and don’t perform. I have a love/hate relationship with these types of palettes. I love that they are a dedicated colour story but I hate not having a transition or brow bone shade so that I can use them for travel. Would I use them for travel though if they only offer one shade in different formulas and with slight variation in shade? Probably not. Anyway, we weren’t blown away by any of them and decided to pass and wait until we had a chance to look at reviews. Don’t think we will be purchasing any of them, to be honest.

I forgot to mention that I saw her latest large palette on IG and have to admit that the colour story there is right up my alley and am so tempted to jump on it the day it releases which I think is November 1st or there about. Now I am reluctant because I don’t know how they will perform and how similar the shades are as they appear to be fairly similar. I don’t know if you will be getting it or not, Christine, but hoping that you do and can give us even an initial idea, like you did for last holiday’s palette crush.

I feel like these could’ve been a big hit if the quality was better. Would’ve a niche that a lot of people in the community have been asking for
