Huda Beauty Amethyst Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Amethyst
Huda Beauty Amethyst Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette ($27.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a new, limited edition purple-themed palette with mostly pinker/redder plums and purples across a mix of matte and shimmer finishes. It was a mixed bag and is a palette that needs an eyeshadow primer underneath and/or a dampened brush with some of the shimmers.

Amethyst #1
Amethyst #1 is a medium-dark berry with subtle, cool undertones and a pearl finish. It had rich, opaque pigmentation that adhered fairly well to bare skin but had to be a bit buffed on to get even coverage as it had a more emollient texture that was denser. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading slightly.

Amethyst #2
Amethyst #2 is a medium plum with warmer undertones and a sparkling, frosted finish. The color coverage was good, though not quite opaque, in a single layer. It had a creamy, more emollient texture that had noticeable slip, which made a little harder to apply evenly with a dry brush, though it worked just fine with a dampened brush or fingertips. It stayed on well for eight hours on me before creasing faintly.

Amethyst #3
Amethyst #3 is a light-medium purple with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium color payoff that was buildable to mostly opaque coverage with two to three layers. The texture was thinner, slightly chalky, but it blended out easily and was easy to work with overall–as long as the pigmentation wasn’t a deal breaker. That thinness, though, made it harder to apply over any of the shimmers, which were thicker. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

Amethyst #4
Amethyst #4 is a medium-dark plum with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was semi-sheer in one layer, as the texture was rather powdery and prone to fallout, but it could be built up to mostly opaque pigmentation if desired. It could have been easier to blend out as well. I would recommend using an eyeshadow primer with this shade It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Amethyst #8
Amethyst #8 is a pale pink with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The consistency was chunkier and more loosely pressed, so there was some fallout if I wasn’t careful to push and press the product onto my skin (no sweeping!), though using it with a dampened brush improved the pigmentation and smoothness in application quite a bit. Dry, it had semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation that lasted well for eight hours on me.

Amethyst #9
Amethyst #9 is a bright, medium-dark fuchsia with cool, blue undertones and a metallic finish. It had rich color coverage in a single layer that adhered evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The consistency was lightly creamy and denser, which gave it a thicker feel on my lid, but it was still blendable along the edges and seemed to last a bit longer than other shades in the palette at nine hours.

Even though your eye look is magnificent, this palette is a hard pass for me even though we all know that I’m a lover of all the purple things! And that’s *why*. Because, between PMG La Vie En Rose, ND Lila and mini Lila, and quite a few truly FABULOUS purples, plums, fuchsia and all, I’m set in this color family, I think. This palette just isn’t of that caliber.
Yes Nancy, I would say that this palette is not of the standard of those you have…especially the PMG La Vie En Rose.
This palette is getting mixed reviews. I love purple eye shadow and have a ton of them so I’ll skip this one.
I knew it would be a mixed bag, but this review came as a pleasant surprise. It actually scored higher than I was expecting. I use primer and I can deal with the few shades that are a bit more finicky. I think I might still get this and give it a try.
Wow, Amethyst n°8 did so poorly and it looks so nice. A shame. I’m mixed on this one. I heard good reviews, but in the end what bothers me is I wanted a more purple palette and it really seems more like a berry palette. Hmmmm.
I was also disappointed by it having more berry shades than purple shades.
Amethyst rated a lot better than I thought it would -the glitter and mattes shades can be very tricky for brands to get right, not that they were spectacular, but they weren’t D’s or F’s.
It is really a mix of berries and purples and I thought Amethyst 2 was a lovely shade.
I was thinking about getting this, but then I heard Smashbox was going to do a purple cover shot palette, so now I intend to wait and see. The covershot palettes are much cheaper in Australia
It’s pretty but I have a lot of purples. Red purples don’t look that good on me anyway.
Pretty, but it’s a pass for me. Between my PMG La Vie En Rose, Ace Beaute Fallen Paradise, the JH x Morphe Bling Boss, Norvina, and purples across other palettes, I don’t need this palette. Plus, Huda palettes always leave me slightly disappointed.
Jessica,
Out for all the purple palettes you named which do you think performs the best?
I’m so sorry, I’m just seeing this comment. The Morphe Bling Boss palette is a decent cheap palette. If you like more cool tones, the Kevyn Aucoin NudePop is a good palette. The Norvina palette is good, but it doesn’t have a proper deepening shade so you may find you have to reach for another palette. The Ace Beaute palette is nice but I did find that I had an allergic reaction to one of the shimmers, but the mattes are good.
I was really keen to get this palette, the green one and the blue one. However, I have seen very mixed reviews on You Tube and read that some of the colours need to be built up. Think I might give them a miss as not sure whether I will like them in person or not.
