Huda Beauty Ruby Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Ruby
Huda Beauty Ruby Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette ($27.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that featured an assortment of pink/red-based shades from pale pink to plum to coral. The matte formula was thinner and drier to the touch but often performed fine on the lid (blendable, buildable, not prone to fading or fallout), while the shimmer formula was denser and thicker with a more silicone-based texture so they worked better with synthetic brushes and pushing/pressing motions both in the pan and on the lid (this is my experience with most silicone-heavy formulas). If you tend to have a very light hand, you may not find your technique picks up product as well with the shimmers.

Ruby #1
Ruby #1 is a pale pink with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, somewhat powdery texture that had slight fallout when applied to bare skin. It lasted well for seven hours on me before fading noticeably.

Ruby #2
Ruby #2 is a rich red with subtle, cool undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the consistency was denser, lightly creamy, and had some slip, which meant it did apply best with fingertips or a firm, synthetic brush and pressed and pushed into the lid (gently) to distribute color evenly. I also preferred applying it after matte shades in the palette, as it was thicker. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before creasing faintly.

Ruby #3
Ruby #3 is a light copper with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It appeared a few shades lighter than it did in the pan, which made it one of the more brightening hues in the palette, too. It had good color coverage that adhered evenly to bare skin with pressing and gentle pushing motions onto my lid as the texture was more emollient, lightly creamy, and denser overall–it felt more silicone-based, and that type of formula seems to go on better with pressing/pushing actions. I didn’t have any issues blending out the edges, and it stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.

Ruby #4
Ruby #4 is a muted, deep red with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had good pigmentation but didn’t seem to be quite opaque in a single layer, though it went on rather evenly despite having a slightly chalkier, thinner texture with a smidgen of dustiness in the pan. I felt like it applied and functioned better on the lid than it felt by touch or looked swatched on my arm. It lasted nicely for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Ruby #5
Ruby #5 is a medium plum with strong, warm copper undertones and cooler, pinkish-violet shimmer paired with a frosted finish. The texture was denser, moderately creamy, and had noticeable slip, which gave it a thicker consistency that needed to be pressed onto the lid with fingertips or a firm, flat brush for even application. It was also easier to use with a dampened brush. It had good color coverage that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before creasing faintly.

Ruby #6
Ruby #6 is a blackened plum with lighter plum sparkle. It had a denser, firmer texture that also felt drier and heavier on my skin, which contributed to ragged edges when I tried to diffuse and blend out this shade on my lid. I also struggled to get it to apply evenly without using it with a dampened brush. On me, it stayed on nicely for seven and a half hours.

Ruby #7
Ruby #7 is a bright, coral-red with strong, warm undertones and a soft, pink pearl finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a denser, slightly firm texture that wasn’t as thick as other shimmery shades but didn’t have as much slip either. It could have been easier to diffuse along the edges, but it didn’t take too much extra effort. This shade lasted well for eight and a half hours on me.

Ruby #8
Ruby #8 is a light-medium coral with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. The texture was rather powdery and more loosely-pressed, which resulted in semi-sheer coverage. It was somewhat buildable but performed best over an eyeshadow primer or base in order to get more impact out of it. The color wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Ruby #9
Ruby #9 is a medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out without issue. The texture was slightly drier and thinner, but it did not seem to impede the function of the product overall. It stayed on nicely for eight hours on me before it started to fade on me.

While I love the eye look you did using this, I’m not so sure about me rocking this true red eye look myself. But you know how cool I think the green on one side, red on the other!
Thanks, Nancy!
Needless to say that this is not a palette for me, however I do think it has all the ingredients for a really pink/red shaded palette. It’s a shame that the lovely plum shade was of poorer quality than the rest of the palette.
True – it is definitely red/pink!
Again, better than I’d thought it would be.
So far, they are pretty workable with the mattes being weaker overall.
This is the first one I picked up of the new group of Obsessions mini palettes she released. I couldn’t resist these rich ruby tones especially for Fall and Holiday looks! I do wish the palette included more mattes. I’m debating on which color scheme to pick up next probably going to go with the blue or green one.
I wish this palette had a kicker color like the blue one did; although maybe that’s what they were tying to do with #8?
Beautiful colors. Between this, Colourpop’s new pink palette and the Natasha Denona Cranberry palette it will be a very pink season!
