Huda Beauty Emerald Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Emerald
Huda Beauty Emerald Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette ($27.00 for 0.35 oz.) has a mix of warmer and cooler-toned greens across three matte shades and six shimmers. With the undertones in the palette, the bottom row doesn’t quite jive with the top six shades as cohesively as it could, and I think they could have put in a deeper, matte green for greater contrast (what I felt I was missing when I was trying to use the palette) instead of shade #9 at the very least. The texture of the shimmery shades is denser and thicker, more silicone-heavy, whereas the mattes were thin and drier (not as velvety as past mattes in their Obsessions palettes), so it’s key to apply the mattes earlier on as they don’t layer as well on top of the shimmery shades.

Emerald #1
Emerald #1 is a bright, chartreuse green with strong, warm undertones paired with a glittery, metallic finish. It had good pigmentation with a denser, creamier texture that was best applied with a stiff, synthetic brush pressed and pushed onto the lid or a dampened brush for a really intense, brightening effect. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before creasing faintly.

Emerald #2
Emerald #2 is a mint green with very subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was semi-opaque and buildable, but the consistency was on the chalky side–a bit dry and dusty and prone to sheering out without a base underneath it. The color stayed on well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Emerald #3
Emerald #3 is a medium green with warmer undertones and a metallic finish. It had rich color payoff in a single layer with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that was a bit dense and thicker than the typical powder eyeshadow–more emollient as a result, too–and worked best with a flat, synthetic brush and pressed and pushed onto the lid (no sweeping to deposit!). The eyeshadow lasted well for eight and a half hours on me.

Emerald #4
Emerald #4 is a deep, forest green with subtle, warm brown undertones and a pearly sheen. The consistency was denser, which did make it a bit harder to diffuse and blend out on my skin, especially against the matte shades in the palette, which were thinner. It was creamier by touch, so if I worked with it using a fingertip or a dampened brush, it was easier to apply and smooth out. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Emerald #5
Emerald #5 is a medium teal with subtle, cool undertones and a sparkling, frosted finish. It had good color coverage, though not opaque, that could be built up to full coverage with a second layer. It had a creamier consistency, which made the base seem less pigmented and the product seem more heavily shimmered. It applied best in pressing motions for greater, more even coverage. This shade stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.

Emerald #8 is a rich, olive green with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The eyeshadow felt soft, lightly creamy, and was dense without being stiff or too thick–it was easier to apply compared to some of the other shimmers in the palette. I don’t wear a lot of green but #8 is GORGEOUS.
Really loving the emerald look! What blush and lip are you wearing? (sorry if this is posted, I might not be looking in the right place).
Hourglass Nude Glow and Estée Lauder Tiger Eye.
I had trouble getting the mint to show up even with finger application. Would putting a nude shadow underneath help it pop more? (I used primer.)
I’m not Christine but I’ve had the best luck applying shadows like these over a white or black base. NYX makes a really affordable white base and Kat Von D makes a white concealer that works good too. I know black sounds counterintuitive but it’s worth a try, if you have time to experiment. Black can be a great base for lighter shadows. I saw aaqshah (Instagram) use black as a base for the emerald color in this palette and the pigmentation was amazing.
I made a comment in the blue palette that it was the only one that had a color that strayed out of the spectrum — I guess I wasn’t looking that closely as this green one has two, depending on how you look at it (Emerald 7 looks straight-up brown to me, with the slightest olive undertone). I guess these could be considered to have analogous color schemes, which is actually much more interesting than just “blue,” or “green.”
I thought a similar thing after looking at her swatches the first day, that the Emerald palette was missing the pop that the yellow brings to the Sapphire palette. And now that you’ve pointed out that it “sort of” does have a “stray” color, I realize it’s in the olive brown area and I don’t quite care for it. Hmmm… at those prices I want to like and really use all of the colors and n°2 & 7 don’t appeal to me. 🙁 But I sooooo like ALL the others. What’s a girl to do? LOL
This is a stunning green themed palette and it performed far better than I thought it would. Lots of gorgeous greens to thrill the heart of anyone who loves this shade. Beautiful, beautiful shades.
Ditto, did do better than I thought it would.
I’m glad this one scored well, as it’s one of the ones I was really interested in. It seems a bit odd that it’s called “Emerald,” but doesn’t have a single emerald green in it. I love olive shadows with my eyes, so I’m cool with the bottom row.
Not bad…not bad… Can’t wait to see how ruby & amethyst scores… hopeful about those :S
I like the mix of warm and cool since my slight olive skintone doesn’t want me to wear a full on green look so I think of this palette more as an add-on for me. I wore the emerald colour today. Lovely!
With a B+, yes I am getting it! ?
I’ll be using that blackened green from Viseart Absinthe Theory palette to deepen up and add definition to my crease. Speaking of which, I’m now questioning my sanity when it comes to my having kept Absinthe.
Why?
Been wearing this palette all day and it still looks vibrant. I used NYX white cream shadow base as a primer to help the colors pop .Very happy with it especially for $30. I’m going to copy Christine’s look next!
Go for it! 😉
I guess this set of Huda obsessions are fairly polarizing. Michele/Binxcat is not a fan. Muse is not over the moon. There are infinite combinations and permutations to be had here, and green has always been my favorite/most used e/s color family. Highly tempted, as actually scored an S $100 card for points yesterday, and have been debating early gift versus use. This one does not seem too finicky, but it might be overly metallic for an oldbie; better see it in person.
I got this -the shimmers are great, the mattes didn’t swatch well, but applied and wore well with primer. The shimmers are denser, so will need a firmer brush and patting motion. It’s easy to put color combos together. I’m really pleased! We see so few green palettes, and Huda did a nice job with this one.
Okay, there it is! Just had to be a B+. I was soooo hoping it would be worst so as not to get it. I Really don’t have these colors and I know they’ll look good, though two of them just seem off for me. But…
I’m trying to decide which of these palettes I can 100% justify buying (you know, that will fill out my stash a bit) and this one may be it. But they’re all just sooooo pretty!
