Tarte Grunge Tarteist Lip Paint

Tarte Grunge Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a deep, muted red-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a natural finish. It had opaque color payoff with a thinner consistency that wasn’t too watery or too dense, so it spread easily across the lips but applied evenly. On me, this shade wore well for six hours but was drying over time. Rare Beauty Strong (P, $20.00) is darker, less glossy (95% similar). Tarte Wannabe (P, $20.00) is less glossy (90% similar). MAC Antique Velvet (P, $19.00) is cooler (90% similar). NARS Aya (LE, $34.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Move Your Body (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, glossier (90% similar). MAC Deep Love (LE, $19.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Sephora Mocha (P, $14.00) is lighter, cooler, less glossy (90% similar). NARS Done It Again (P, $26.00) is cooler, less glossy (90% similar). MAC Patricia Bright (LE, $19.00) is cooler, less glossy (90% similar). Too Faced Naughty by Nature (P, $21.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). Kaleidos Bloodstone (P, $12.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Sephora But First Coffee (58) (P, $8.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). NARS Lonely Heart (P, $27.00) is less pigmented, cooler, less glossy (90% similar). ColourPop Pitch (LE, $7.00) is darker, brighter (90% similar). MAC Victorian (LE, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Bread Winn'r (P, $29.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Unveil (P, $24.00) is lighter, cooler, less glossy (90% similar). Jaclyn Cosmetics Ambition (DC, $18.00) is darker (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Brownstone (P, $40.00) is warmer (85% similar). Anastasia Rust (P, $18.00) is cooler, less glossy (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. Tarte Rave Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark plummy-taupe with neutral undertones and a soft sheen. It had rich pigmentation that covered the lips evenly and smoothly. The texture was thin and somewhat slippery, so it moved around more than other shades and only lasted for four hours, despite being a darker shade. It was somewhat drying over time. ColourPop Teeny Tiny (DC, $6.50) is warmer (90% similar). Makeup Geek Socialite (P, $12.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Stingraye (LE, $6.50) is brighter, warmer (85% similar). ColourPop TooLips (P, $7.00) is darker (80% similar). Maybelline Gone Greige (DC, $7.49) is lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Tarte Naughty Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a deep, inky black with subtle, cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had good pigmentation with a slightly thin texture that spread across the lips easily, but it was a little streaky in places and tended to pool into lip lines. The deeper shade made it harder to notice that, though.
Milani I Am Invincible (P, $6.99) is less shimmery, warmer (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Blacquer (000) (LE, $30.00) is warmer (95% similar). Make Up For Ever #50 (DC, $19.00) is glossier (95% similar). ColourPop Aeronaut (P, $10.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Stallion (DC, $21.00) is glossier (95% similar). Anastasia Midnight (P, $18.00) is less glossy (95% similar). Make Up For Ever C604 (DC, $22.00) is warmer (95% similar). Urban Decay Perversion (DC, $18.00) is lighter, cooler, less glossy (95% similar). NYX Chambord (P, $6.00) is less pigmented (95% similar). Anastasia Primary #2 (Vol. 1) (PiP, ) is cooler (95% similar). KVD Beauty Slayer (P, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Fenty Beauty F'n Black (P, $18.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Anastasia Midnight (P, $20.00) is less glossy (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Uninvited (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, less glossy (90% similar). Dior Ultra Night (111) (P, $37.00) is less shimmery, lighter, less pigmented (90% similar). Bite Beauty #056 (P, $18.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). Sephora Woof (44) (P, $8.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Hello Boys (LE, $8.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC In the Spirit (LE, $19.00) is less glossy (95% similar). NYX Go Rogue (P, $7.50) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

FORMULA OVERVIEW | Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a pigmented, matte liquid lipstick that’s long-wearing. First thing to note is that these never fully dry down, so they are not transfer-proof, but they are less drying than the typical liquid lipstick that dries down completely. They are quite pigmented and despite transferring onto cups, while you eat, and so forth, a lot of the color is left behind. You can also touch-up without having to completely remove the formula. The texture is inconsistent; some shades are thin and have a soft shine even after ten minutes of wear, while others are almost mousse-like in the tube, and these ones tend to be more matte from the get-go. There is a very subtle mint scent, but I don’t notice it at all once it is on. I do notice that it is easier to get these on the teeth than other lip products. The formula is lightly to moderately drying over time with average to long-wear, depending on the shade. Some shades settled into lip lines over time. The majority are satin to semi-matte with a little sheen, which you can either blot once for a matte finish or wait about an hour or two for it to naturally mattify (like any satin finish really).

I like all of these, but most curious about Rave. It looks like it has some gray in it, wonder if I can pull it off without looking dead or sick. Seems like brands everywhere are issuing gray or grayish lippies, I’m seriously thinking of buying more CP Petit Four lipliners and just mixing it with my existing lipsticks to come up with my own color that’s flattering, and it’ll save me from having to buy new lippies.

Hmmm, I wonder if Hot Chocolate varies by batch?? On me, it’s a muted brown with some dusty mauve- gray undertones on me, it looks nothing like what it looks like on Temptalia. It seems to be darker version of Maybelline Gone Greige on me.

Rave is a MUST buy!!! But I actually want all three!!! I love wearing black lipstick out to concerts and stuff, and this one would probably last longer than Chambourd does on me! And the other two are everyday colors for me! I’m loving most of the new shades!
