Summer Days (Light)

Sydney Grace Summer Days (Light) 9-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($33.00 for 0.54 oz.) is a new, lighter version on a warmer, neutral color story that included five matte shades paired with four shimmer shades. All nine eyeshadows had great color payoff, were blendable, and lasted for eight to nine hours. Blood Orange had a bit more slip than ideal, while Cherry Picking was a touch firmer than ideal and Daystar was a bit powdery.

The shades with “(Light)” in the name are specific to the Light version of the palette. Six of the shades are the same as in the Deep version, and they felt/swatched the same so I didn’t test for longevity twice.

Bask (Light)

Bask (Light) is a light gold with strong, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had excellent pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered well to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges.

The texture was soft, smooth, and dense without being too thick or too firmly-pressed into the pan. It lasted beautifully for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$6.25/0.06 oz. - $104.17 Per Ounce

The shimmer eyeshadows are more consistent in pigmentation with the majority of shades having opaque color coverage. The more metallic/sparkly the shade is, the creamier and more emollient the eyeshadow felt in the pan, which often yielded really smooth application and good adherence to the lid, though a few worked better with a fingertip or a dampened brush for true-to-pan color or to get a truer finish/sheen.

Most shades, however, worked well with brushes, and I didn't have trouble applying or blending out most of the shimmer shades. The more satin to pearl like finishes tend to feel a little thinner but blend out well. These shades wore between eight and nine hours on me with some of the more foiled-like shades creasing noticeably at the end (and the less foiled-like ones fading).

Sandcastle (Light)

Sandcastle (Light) is a muted, medium pinky-brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had good color payoff that applied evenly to my lid and diffused out well along the edges.

The texture was soft, velvety, and a touch powdery but wasn’t prone to fallout nor sheering out too quickly when applied to bare skin. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$5.25/0.06 oz. - $87.50 Per Ounce

The matte eyeshadows tend to be pigmented (typically semi-opaque or opaque, often buildable if they aren't opaque) with a soft, more velvety texture that has slight slip but isn't so thick that it gets difficult to use, applies unevenly, or has a lot of fallout. I've found that most of the matte eyeshadows apply and blend out without much effort but a few may take a bit more effort to diffuse along the edges. The matte formula tends to wear between eight and eight and a half hours on me.

Break of Day

Break of Day is a muted, medium-dark, rosy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency felt soft, smooth, and velvety–more substantial without being powdery or prone to fallout during application–that was easy to work with. The eyeshadow had rich color coverage that stayed on well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Daystar (Light)

Daystar (Light) is a light-medium, dusty mauve with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color coverage, though the consistency was dustier and on the powdery side (relative to most of the brand’s matte shades) so I’d recommend tapping the brush to avoid potential for fallout.

The eyeshadow applied evenly, though, and blended out without sheering out too readily. This shade lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

Beach Days

Beach Days is a muted, light-medium, rosy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had barely-there pearl visible in the swatch but in practice, it appeared matte.

The consistency was soft, lightly powdery in the pan, but blendable and didn’t look dry or powdery when applied. It had rich color payoff that adhered evenly and wore nicely for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Cherry Picking

Cherry Picking is a deep brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It appeared a bit darker and less warm-toned when applied than it did in the pan. The texture was firmer in the pan, so I had to use a heavier hand to pick up product if I wanted full color payoff in a single layer, though for those who prefer to build up intensity, it would work perfectly for that as it was still very blendable. There was visible fading after eight and a half hours of wear.

Blood Orange

Blood Orange is a muted, deeper plum with subtle, warm red undertones and a satin sheen. The consistency felt more emollient–creamy but a little thin compared to most of the brand’s shimmer shades–that was best applied by pressing into place.

I found that sweeping motions tended to push the product around a bit rather than applying it evenly. It had opaque color coverage that lasted well for eight and a half hours.

Formula Overview

$5.00/0.06 oz. - $83.33 Per Ounce

S'mores

S’mores is a deeper, peachy gold with strong, warm undertones and a bright, metallic finish. The eyeshadow had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, and using a slightly heavier hand, I could get opaque coverage out of it.

It had a smooth, cream-like consistency that was dense but not thick or difficult to pick up with a dry brush. The product adhered well to bare skin and wore well for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

Camping is a bright, coppery bronze with strong, warm undertones and an intense, sparkling and metallic finish. The consistency was smooth, creamy, and dense but not as firmly-pressed as expected, so I’d use a lighter hand when picking up product as it was quite pigmented. The eyeshadow applied well to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before showing signs of wear.

My first thought was “overall, too many warm colours” but then, seeing some of the swatches, I changed my mind (like you, I found Cherry Picking much less warm and much more wearable looking for me when I saw the swatch). Fortunately, I have the GoT palette which has dupes of several of the shades I really like and I’ve got dupes for most of the others.
