Stila Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Jezebel
Stila Jezebel Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark copper with warm, orange undertones and a pearly sheen. It was richly pigmented and a little went a long way, and I felt like this made it easier to work with as the product never felt too much on the lid, dried down fast enough not to get into my creases, but I was still able to diffuse the edges. On me, it lasted for nine hours without creasing.

The Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow formula is supposed to have "rich, beautiful color with a high shimmer sheen, minus the glitter" (compared to their Glitter & Glow range). The formula touts "non-tacky, non-transfer" wear with "minimal fallout." Some shades were easier to work with than others; typically the ones that weren't quite as watery and yielded more coverage with less product were the easiest to apply, diffuse the edges of, and wear. They lasted between eight and ten hours on me, and most did not have any fallout.

Starlight
Stila Starlight Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a light gold with warm, yellow undertones and fine, multi-colored pearl. It had semi-opaque pigmentation paired with a thin, watery consistency that was prone to sheering out. I did not find the formula to be particularly buildable as the dry down made it budge-proof to the point where layering more product on top tended to make the surface uneven and emphasized my lid texture. This shade worked well for an all-over shimmering effect on the lid or patted on top of other eyeshadows. The eyeshadow lasted for eight and a half hours on me before wearing away.

Cloud
Stila Cloud Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a medium-dark, smoky purple with warmer gold and pink pearl. This was one of the more multi-dimensional shades, as it seemed to get warmer and cooler depending on the angle. It was more watery, though, and had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer on the lid as it naturally sheered out as I spread the product out. I could build it up slightly, but the dry down was such that it didn’t layer too well. I think this shade would work best as a one-and-done color on the lid or patted on top of another eyeshadow to fill in the opacity. On me, it lasted for nine hours without creasing and had no fallout.

La Douce
Stila La Douce Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a dark, greenish-gold with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. It had opaque coverage in a single layer with a slightly watery texture that felt cool upon application. The consistency took some getting used to applying, as it was easy to over-apply due to the thinner, watery feel of it. Once I got a handle on that, I was able to apply it evenly and blend out the edges fairly well. It lasted for nine hours without creasing on me, and it seemed to have the barest amount of fallout.

Pigalle
Stila Pigalle Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a deep plum with warm, brown undertones and a pearly sheen. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented with a smooth, watery consistency that was thin but not prone to sheering out. A little went a long way–I barely tapped my flat brush against the applicator and had plenty of product for a third of my lid. I did find that it was harder to get seamless edges with this shade, particularly once it dried down as it did not budge. It wore well for nine hours before creasing on me.

OMg – how magnificent are these shades? Glorious colours, great ratings. Love Starlight and La Douce the best. Is it possible to have too many khaki shades? I have six of the dupes to La Douce…..but that doesn’t stop me from the loving the colour.
I have the old (and discontinued, now, sadly) single powder eyeshadows Starlight, La Douce, Cloud and Pigalle and I have to say I prefer them very much to these shadows, though I do like La Douce a lot
Gorgeous!
Have you tried Pigalle as an eyeliner? I think that would be how I would use it!
I’m sure it would work that way!
I have the 3 that came in the holiday kit and I absolutely love them. I doubt I’ll purchase the glitters now that there’s glimmer.
The look belies how involved it is, and is blended perfectly. You are a genius in all you do. The Stila is fun and gorgeous, too. Greened golds put such a tiny unexpected tweak on any gold look. Think Pigalle is my favorite, and when you check the swatches, Cloud (my current preferred family) doesn’t have a host of better dupes. Do you feel like the holiday insanity is letting up a bit? Hope so.
Putting them on lid makes them a lot easier to work with, IMO. When I tried getting REALLY fancy with five of these all over the lid and crease, it was a lot more work!
Well, holiday is pretty over for me except for the last collections from brands like MAC/ColourPop (where “holiday” might as well be a mix of winter and holiday releases, whereas most brands just have holiday). These are technically part of Stila’s spring ’18 collection!
I think I’m in love with Cloud. So pretty!
I appreciate having a review of the Starlight shade as it would have been one I would have gone for. But at $30+ CAN per shadow, it’s got to be stellar for me to shell out the money on it. I’m interested in Kitten and Carefree int his formula as well.
I hear ya… and liquids go bad far faster than many other products.
Will you be reviewing the newest shades that came out as well? I’m trying to get a sense of the difference between Cloud and Boheme, but I can’t seem to find a swatch of Boheme anywhere! Thanks!
These are all I bought, sorry!
Is it just my phones or is the swatch for Jezebel missing?
It’s the fourth photo in the carousel for me?
A product I have been meaning to try and so I am happy the glimmer and glow is returning for Spring. I’m have not felt the same temptation for glitter and glow. I tend not to do a lot of inner third intensity to my eye looks as it can get junked up on my hooded eyes and transfer. Instead, I often grab a liquid shimmer product or pencil for lining above my dark liner to bring brightness into my look. I like Cloud and Jezebel.
I really dig the Glitter & Glow ones under the lash line, though you know me, I like a lot on the lower lash line, lol.
They’ve all caught my eye, they’re so pretty. I will pass on Starlight though, only because I have a cream shadow similar to it I think.
Perfect for holiday parties too!
Glad you have something similar, Aj!
Thanks for this. My La Douce is better than yours and I was considering getting Cloud with my Ulta 20% off. I think, based on your review, I’ll pass.
Cloud is a lot less like the rest, I think. More like a hybrid between the Glitter & Glow formula and the Shimmer & Glow formula.
Gotcha. For what I want, I’m looking for more like the Shimmer & Glow formula. I prefer the opaqueness and the sheen versus the more sheer glitter-base. I’d rather spend less money and apply a less expensive glitter over a sticky base or other shadow if I’m going for a sheerer glitter look than $24 on a product that doesn’t meet my needs. Thanks!
I like these color offerings better than the mostly rose gold train they’ve been riding. I’m still not sure if I’d use a product like this. Do you tend to dab a brush onto the applicator and apply to the lid that way? Or dab the applicator onto the lid and blend it out with a brush?
Hey Ginny,
I tap my brush against the applicator (the barest tap) and then apply to the lid. Alternatively, if you want to be the most sanitary about it, pat the applicator against a metal plate, and then pick up product from there with your brush!
I just came here to say that I associate the name Jezebel with you for some reason.
I feel like you had a newsletter a long time ago with that name.
I digress. These liquid shadows are so pretty!
I believe I used to have either a site or a Livejournal called Jezebella 🙂
Beautiful shades, but too bad they’re a little finicky to work with. It’ll be difficult to get the opacity I want if these are that watery, but I’m probably going to give a couple of shades a go. I do love the way Cloud and La Douce look at full opacity!
Most of them can be opaque – definitely use a lot less than you think you need. I felt like that was actually the easier way to maintain and get opacity since I didn’t have to blend tons to even out the layer 🙂
Thanks for tip! I’m still getting the hang of all these liquid eyeshadows!
I bought every shade of these when Ulta released them.I already have all the Glitter & Glow ones so I figured I would love these also!Stila actually just released 3 more of these Shimmer & Glow on Ulta a couple days ago and I just received those 3 a day or 2 ago they are Carefree,Freedom, and Bohème.I think these types of shadows are special because they can make a really intricate looking eye with minimal time.
I love Pigalle but I already have MAC Cranberry and Sugarpill Magentric (more purple for sure, but similar family). Cloud is really pretty. Funny to see the fairy princess shimmer come back into style.
Great to have such nice iterations of gorgeous colors from Stila! They don’t get the hype of a lot of other brands, but their products are so good. Their Stay All Day liner and eyebrow pens are my absolute favorite liquid liner and eyebrow filler, and that’s saying a lot in today’s market. They do great colors and really knock it out of the park in some of their formulations.
Wow, these are so gorgeous!!!
