Sephora Violet Vertigo (103) & Voluptuous Burgundy (58) Cream Lip Stains Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Violet Vertigo (103)
Sephora Violet Vertigo (103) Cream Lip Stain ($14.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a rich, deep violet purple with cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had rich, opaque pigmentation in a single layer, but the texture was a little thinner and overly fluid, which made it harder to get and retain even application along the edges of my lips. It dried down quickly but emphasized my lip texture and looked more “shrink-wrapped” compared to other matte shades in the range, which appeared more smoothing. The color stayed on for well over eight hours but was somewhat drying after five hours of wear.

Formula Overview
$14.00/0.169 oz. - $82.84 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "high-coverage" that goes on "smooth" and yields a "silky, lightweight stain" that is "long-lasting" and "never sticky" and "won't dry out lips." One of the signature traits for the formula is that it is a thinner (and yet somehow creamy) texture that does spread well but feels thin and very lightweight on the lips. It dries down quickly, but I never felt like it was troublesome to apply, even if I needed an extra moment to get around the edges of my lips, so it was a more forgiving formula despite setting more quickly. Once it set, the color did stay locked on for hours--I tested shades for around eight hours and many were still going strong. The formula was non-drying to slightly drying to me. They had a moderately strong, sweet scent (almost like burnt sugar) that also smelled just slightly "perfume-y" to me, but it seemed to dissipate after an hour of wear.
The pigmentation varied from shade to shade, but it did seem that the more shimmery and metallic shades often were less pigmented and did not always apply as evenly and sometimes seemed to sit in my lip lines. The cream/matte shades applied more evenly and had more opaque coverage on average.

PPermanent. $14.00.
Voluptuous Burgundy (58)
Sephora Voluptuous Burgundy Cream Lip Stain ($14.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a deep burgundy with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied fairly evenly on me, though there was some color that sank into my deeper lip lines. I didn’t feel that it was noticeable from a normal viewing distance, though. The texture was lightweight, thin, and creamy with a lot of slip, so it was easy to spread across my lips. It dried down within 20 seconds for the most part but was a bit tacky when I pressed my lips together for the first half hour of wear, but it didn’t lift or disturb the color so it wasn’t a real issue. This shade wore well for over eight hours but was slightly drying after six hours of wear.

(gasps at Violet Vertigo)
Unfortunately, I already know that the gorgeous Violet Vertigo will look hideous on me, and it makes me sad.
I agree! I am sooo drawn to such colors and thankfully there are testers and as soon as I try them, the love is over.
I wish it stopped at testers. I spent money on two similar shades over the past few months before I accepted the fact that this type of shade is just not meant for my face.
LOL! Yes, sometimes we just go ahead and then regret it. I have a few too; however, if they’re less expensive brands, that’s okay. I’m so glad that recently I tested Guerlain’s Rouge G in the blue, violet and orange BEFOREHAND because at 31€ a pop, that would have been too big of a mistake. 😉 And none of them worked for me.
Wow, the Voluptuous Burgundy looks stunning on you! I def have to pick that one up!
Concur! Very flattering!
Voluptuous Burgundy is DEFINITELY in my wheelhouse of super flattering lipstick shades! I need this one badly!❤
Violet Vertigo would be the opposite. Just like CP So Wavy, that sits unused. Funny how I can wear intense blue-violet eye liner or an accent eyeshadow, but that’s about it.
Now that’s a purple (violet)!
Love Voluptuous Burgundy. The metallized effect makes it really outstanding.
Both look great! I’ll have to look at them in-store. I really like this formula, so I hope these 2 work out too.
Thank you so much for the review! I was wondering if you are going to upload the swatches of the 10 new shades of Kat Von D’s everlasting liquid lipsticks. I have been looking EVERYWHERE to find a good swatch of the new “blue blooded” (a gorgeous royal blue), but it’s impossible to find any!
