Sephora Lady Luck (30) Ultra Shine Lip Gel
Sephora Lady Luck (30) Ultra Shine Lip Gel ($14.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a muted, medium red with warm undertones and pink and copper shimmer. It had mostly opaque coverage with slight translucency that gave it a gel-like appearance on the lips. It was comfortable to wear and applied beautifully while lasting for four and a half hours on me. Chanel Chene Rouge (212) (P, $30.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Make Up For Ever 405P Pearly Plum (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter, less pigmented (85% similar). MAC Hell Bound (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Shooting Stars (316) (DC, $28.00) is more muted, warmer (80% similar). MAC Enchanter (LE, $20.00) is darker, more muted (85% similar). Bite Beauty Seven (Watercolor) (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Brickhouse (DC, $26.00) is darker (85% similar). Huda Beauty Saucey (P, $18.00) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Sephora Fig Jam (31) Ultra Shine Lip Gel ($14.00 for 0.11 oz.) is cool-toned violet with a jelly-like finish. The consistency is thicker and heavier compared to most glosses in the range–it has more in common with petroleum jelly than your typical gloss as it is so much thicker. It still has the glossy, high-shine finish, but it appears more like a stain on. On me, it tended to look like an uneven, fuchsia-like stain. It lasted for three hours. Originally, Sephora didn’t have descriptions up for this range, but now they’re listing the finish, which they describe as “clear” for this one (the others include descriptions like “shimmer” and “pearl”) — but it seems to define the thicker, more jelly-like shades; I think “translucent jelly” or “sheer” might be more apt descriptions. Sephora Raspberry Punch (21) (P, $12.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Loud & Lovely (P, $20.00) is lighter (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Electric Violet (P, $24.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Dior Hollywood (688) (P, $35.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Buxom Berry Blast (PiP, $19.00) is lighter, more pigmented (90% similar). Tarte Indulging (LE, ) is lighter (90% similar). Maybelline Opalescent Orchid (515) (P, $8.99) is brighter (90% similar). Maybelline Mystical Magenta (610) (P, $8.99) is more shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Jawbreaker (P, $20.00) is more pigmented (85% similar). MAC Snuggle Up (LE, $20.00) is darker, more pigmented, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Sephora Poppy Field (33) Ultra Shine Lip Gel ($14.00 for 0.11 oz.) is bright, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that covered well and evenly while still letting the natural lip color come through slightly, which gave it a “lighter” appearance. The texture was comfortable and applied easily, while the color lasted for four hours on me. MAC Berry Bold (LE, $20.00) is lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Punch Drunk (DC, $26.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). MAC Knockout (LE, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). Maybelline Signature Scarlet (020) (P, $8.99) is darker, brighter (95% similar). Shiseido Lust (RD305) (P, $25.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Revlon HD Fire Opal (560) (DC, $8.99) is lighter, brighter, more pigmented (90% similar). MAC Ablaze (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Always and Forever (P, $24.00) is less pigmented, warmer (90% similar). MAC Flash Drive (LE, $20.00) is darker, brighter (90% similar). MAC Velvet Me (LE, $21.00) is cooler (85% similar). Illamasqua Temper (P, $22.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). Maybelline So Hot (P, $7.99) is darker, brighter (85% similar). MAC Fortune Red (LE, $21.00) is cooler (85% similar). Urban Decay Bang (P, $20.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Formula Summary: It is supposed to be “inspired by gel nail polishes” with an “ultra-light” texture and hydrating formula. The range as of fall 2015 seems to range from clear to mostly opaque with a slight translucency that gives them a squishy, jelly-like look with the average shade between semi-sheer and semi-opaque. They’re lightweight, comfortable to wear, and mostly non-sticky. I haven’t noticed a taste, but there is a sweet vanilla, almost caramel-like scent (it is a little on the synthetic side, but I don’t notice the scent when I’m wearing it). Despite having a smoother, mostly non-sticky feel, the formula has decent wear time (three to five hours) and is hydrating. All in all, it’s a nice formula that outdoes a lot of the more recently released new gloss formulas on the market–and at a fraction of the cost–when the shade is more pigmented, but when it is sheerer (especially the lighter shades), there is often settling into lip lines. One thing to note, though, is despite seeming like quite a big tube of gloss, it contains only 0.11 fl. oz. It has an interesting hourglass-shaped applicator, where it is curved inversely and can fit the curve of the lip.

Lady Luck is a great transition shade for fall.
Great point, Chris! 🙂
I’m on more of a lipstick kick right now but the Lady Luck and Poppy are very pretty. Unlike Fig Jam which is disappointing. That color had potential!
It did! I wish they’d do an opaque purple!
Poppy Field is going on my list! I wish Fig Jam had been more pigmented like Poppy Field though. Such a nice color.
Same here, Aj! If only.
Oooh Lady Luck is pretty ! Grabby hands!
Haha! ;D
The purple one would have been so cool if it was opaque! It might be an interesting lipstick topper though.
I was sooooooo bummed!!
Lady Luck just looks delicious! haha I want it 😀
Woohoo!
Poppy Field looks so pretty! Love how überglossy it is 🙂 And the color is exactly like that of poppies, so pretty.
I like how much shine there is, too!
I really love the soft shimmer in Lady Luck, very elegant and lux looking! Poppy Field looks lovely as well, I could see popping a tiny bit on top of Lady Danger to give it dimension ( and some moisture! )
Fig Jam only has one good use I can think of : adding a bit of shine to a plum or purple matte lipstick. But the Vaseline consistency makes me think that it would break lipstick down and cause them to bleed like mad!
That would be a great pairing – Poppy Field and Lady Danger!
That eyeshadow looks so pretty on you! And the glosses are nice too.
Thanks, Rachael!
Too bad fig jam isn’t the same color as in the bottle:( The colors with shimmer are very pretty like Nude Alert
I know!! 🙁
I really like these colors and price points. I’m not a purple girl but thought fig jam looked really pretty from a bit of distance. I could see the irregularity in your close up. I’d consider all three, frankly.
Oh, very nice!
Disappointed once again on the shades that feed my wild side like Fig Jam. Looks awesome though with your peepers done in purple there Christine!
Thanks, Trish!
I love Lady Luck. Fig Jam is really disappointing; it should have been a bit more pigmented.
I wish they’d opted to put out a pigmented purple instead of their sheer range!
Lady Luck is beautiful. Poppu Field is very nice as well, but Lady Luck is shimmery! Pity Fig Jam is so sheer, it looks very promising in the package.
Why do I always see typos and other weirdness just as I have pressed enter and can no longer do anything about it???
Lady Luck is a nice one!
Lady luck looks pretty on you Christine!
Thank you, Melissa!
Lady luck is so beautiful !!
Monica.
It is!
Lady Luck will be mine 🙂
Yay!
Lady luck is quite striking but I’d be more likely to wear it in the summer.
I hear you!
Lady Luck is gorgeous, going on my wishlist, a sucker for gold shimmer. Poppy Fields is pretty too. I swatched Fig Jam in store and it was so disappointing, wish it was the color in the tube
I wish the tinted jelly-ish glosses would just have a barely-there tint, lol!
They all look great on you! Might buy if I make a big purchase from Sephora (wish they’d come back to the UK!)
Thanks, Claire!
Don’t these companies test the formulas before putting them out? Fig Jam would be a wonderful gloss if it wasn’t so blotchy and if the formulations were more like the others.
I wonder why they didn’t try to make it more opaque!
These are just “eh”! But, please do a tutorial (like you used to do) on your eye makeup! Its sooo beautiful…and soft looking! I love the gold-y brown on the bottom!! Please do it!!
Sorry, I’m not doing tutorials right now!
Lady Luck is beautiful! Poppy Field caught me by surprise…it’s so pretty!
Lady Luck seems to be a fave! 🙂
I like Lady Luck!
Yay!
