Revlon Black Cherry & Violet Frenzy Super Lustrous Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Black Cherry
Revlon Black Cherry Super Lustrous Lipstick ($8.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a deep burgundy with subtle, cool undertones and a subtle, pearly sheen. It had medium coverage that was buildable to semi-opaque pigmentation, which was as expected. The texture was smooth, lightweight, and creamy with moderate slip–more slip than a lot of the shades in the range, though. There were areas of slight patchiness, where color clumped together, and a bit of product that sat in my deeper lip lines. It wore well for five hours and left a very faint stain behind but settled further into my lip lines, while the formula felt lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$8.49/0.15 oz. - $56.60 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "lightweight color and moisturizing shine" with "buildable color payoff" and a "gliding, smooth application." It's a good formula for those who like medium, buildable coverage with a smooth, balmy consistency that glides across lips easily but doesn't feel too slippery while worn.
They're comfortable to wear with light hydration but tend to wear a shorter length of time--anywhere from two to four hours with a couple of shades reaching a little beyond four hours. What I like most about the formula is the finish: it's luminous and more smoothing, so it's kinder to lips with imperfection or prone to dryness/flaking. The formula has slip but doesn't have any heaviness or slickness that makes it prone to getting into lip lines.

Violet Frenzy
Revlon Violet Frenzy Super Lustrous Lipstick ($8.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a medium-dark plum with warm, pink undertones and fine lavender and pink micro-shimmer. It had medium coverage, which was buildable to semi-opaque pigmentation if preferred. The texture felt smooth and balm-like, which helped the lipstick glide easily over my lips without dragging. The color went on fairly evenly and didn’t emphasize my lip lines. It felt lightly hydrating over the four hours it lasted for on me.

Black Cherry is my favorite shade of all time. I’ve been hunting for a more luxe version, but I keep coming back to the Revlon tube. I’ve been buying this shade for 20 years!
With my love for all things burgundy and plum, I think we can guess what I’m going to say next. Yep. I have MAC Media and UD After Dark. I’m all stocked up here. Gotta bring those 2 out and show them some love!
How lovely to see reviews of these classic lip colors added to the temptalia library! Thanks, Christine 🙂
Not to mention, I’m never paying Tom Ford’s prices for makeup, unless it’s in baked or powered form.. His perfumes, yes, but the experts say almost everything with wax in it should be replaced once a year…I’m going for the $8 stuff…or, if I love the color and it underperforms, I’ll look for a dupe in the under $35 range.
I didn’t expect to see Revlon super lustrous lipsticks here: it’s a pleasant surprise. They’re always my go-to drugstore recommendation for friends new to makeup: buildable, satin/cream finishes, great selection, fade evenly, mild in scent/flavor and not prone to feathering. And with coupon stacking plus sales, sometimes I can get these for a fraction of the MSRP. I’ll have to add Violet Frenzy to my collection.
This is fantastic quality from Revlon – Black Cherry is sensational.
Black cherry looks so good on you! ❤️
I love that you reviewed Revlon! If I didn’t just buy Guerlain Plum-Brella recently, I might have considered buying Violet Frenzy.
So excited to see you reviewing Revlon lipsticks and am hoping you are planning on doing the whole line.
I bought every single shade they make a couple of years ago when Ulta had them on sale for $2.99 each and some of them I have a hard time deciding exactly what shade and undertone they are, so your expert opinion would be extremely helpful.
BTW, Black Cherry looks beautiful on you.
Sorry, I’ll disappoint you – I do not have all of them, just a few!
Great to see more affordable drugstore brands on Temptalia – as much as I love the look of Colour Pop, we unfortunately don’t have access to it in the UK. I’ll definitely be checking out both of these lipsticks upon your recommendation. Black Cherry in particular looks like a beautiful statement shade.
Revlon lipsticks are by far my favorite. I have NARS, UD, Lipstick Queen, MAC, and others, and I find Revlon to be on par with these higher end brands. I would love to see you do more reviews of ‘drugstore’ products- your reviews are the absolute best, so thorough and reliable.
I’m happy to see a review of Revlon superlustrous lipsticks, I have a large number of lipsticks from this line and I love them! I think it’s such an underrated line of lipstick, great quality and great price.
Wow Black Cherry! Ime your review is spot on but it’s still a great lipstick for $6. Really flattering color for anyone. The Revlon Super Lustrous is my favorite drugstore lipstick (also the L’Oreal Colour Riche Classic bullet). Totally on par with a lot of midrange lipsticks, and so many colors!
Oooh I really like Violet Frenzy! That is going on my list.
Wow, I’m going to be checking out Violet Frenzy on my next trip to the drugstore.
