Pat McGrath Celestial Nirvana Mega MTHRSHP Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Celestial Nirvana
Pat McGrath Celestial Nirvana Mega MTHRSHP Eyeshadow Palette ($82.00 for 0.79 oz.) is a new, limited edition holiday eyeshadow palette that included 18 shades across a mix of mattes and shimmers. It had the most matte/shimmer balance of all the mega palettes the brand has released. It is a more colorful palette, though the shimmers ran on the neutral side, and likely would be most versatile when paired with other eyeshadow palettes. The quality was fairly good across the board with no real duds but a few shades that could have been better.

Formula Overview

Pat McGrath's eyeshadows are, generally, supposed to be "super-saturated" with "creamy, soft textures" and "extreme blendability and adherence without creasing." A lot of how well they perform (and to some degree, how they are supposed to be applied and marketed) depends on the type of shades, but by and large, the eyeshadows perform very much as they are described.
The brand released single eyeshadows in March 2019, and the shades have been consistent in quality, look, and feel. They are not removable, unfortunately, so one would have to depot like any other single eyeshadow--I tried using tweezers and lifting on several shades to no avail. The lids are held closed by a weak magnet, so I'm not sure they're as secure as most single eyeshadow compacts in my stash--I wish it really locked in, but there's definitely a magnet that pulls the lid down if it's within 2mm of the base.
The mattes are velvety, blendable, and dense without being thick or too heavy, and they have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation where a little can go a long way with some of the deeper and richer hues. The satin and pearl finishes are smooth, lightly creamy, and firmer but not dense or thick with good pigmentation, blendability, and easy application. The more metallic finishes tend to be softer, creamy, and smooth with a bit more denseness and no powderiness. The sparkly/glittery shades are often designed to be applied wet for richer coverage or intensity, which has largely been my experience. Most of the shades last between eight and nine hours.

Formula Overview
$25.00/0.04 oz. - $625.00 Per Ounce

I do like all the neutral shimmer/metallic shades the best. And overall it is a good palette, if you like bold matte shades. There are a couple of weak shades here, that we are not used to seeing in a PMG palette though. Thankyou for reviewing this large palette Christine, with your sore wrist.
Ha – ditto! That first matte brown shade (that got an A+) is also really nice but overall, there are only about 5 or 6 shadows in this that I’d wear and I can easily dupe those from what I already have.
I also echo thanks and concern for how much you suffer (quite literally, Christine) to bring us all the information you do!
This has been reviewing much, much better than I was expecting just going from various arm swatches! It seems to perform far better in actual usage for eye looks that I’ve been watching some YT’ers demonstrate. I still have a feeling that just having your trio with SG, and also several other palettes, guaranteed I have this range. So, why is it tempting me? 😂
Okay, Violet Vixen! That is a nice shade of purple.
I agree!
This is an easy “pass” for me. I already have similar shades to the ones that appeal to me in this palette, and the rest don’t work for me at all. That said, it is nice to see a better matte/shimmer balance here, which is (hopefully!) a move in the right direction for PMG.
Maybe I’m just lacking creativity, but I can’t see my self using this palette even for one single eye look. Happy days for all the color lovers, though!
When I look at this, I think, Naw! But when I look at each color, I think, hmm, I don’t think I have many of them, for example, Vixen and Navy. If I could afford to, I think I’d go for this one. It seems so versatile to be creative, sorta MUA friendly.
I checked the dupes and looked a little more; I only have six of them, plus if I look harder in my collection, likely only eight total. But there are only two that I REALLY would like, so no, $82 for two colors, nopey nope!
