Bronze Seduction

Pat McGrath Bronze Seduction Mothership Eyeshadow Palette ($125.00 for 0.47 oz.) is a new, permanent palette that contains an assortment of warmer-toned hues ranging from peachy-gold to deep eggplant. I think the palette lives up to the marketing, but I’d recommend anyone new to the brand’s formulas to consider the brand’s application instructions, which they give for each shade, as often the shades are designed to be used wet/dry or with fingertips. The palette felt like a holiday party, even though it’s a fall launch, with the rich red, greenish duochrome, and intense sparkle in several shades. The finishes are definitely more impressive in person as they sparkle and dance with the light.

Skinshow Divine Glow

Skinshow Divine Glow is a soft, peachy gold with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, almost cream-like texture that applied evenly and blended out with ease. This shade lasted well on my skin for nine and a half hours.

Formula Overview

-

Pat McGrath's eyeshadows are, generally, supposed to be "super-saturated" with "creamy, soft textures" and "extreme blendability and adherence without creasing." A lot of how well they perform (and to some degree, how they are supposed to be applied and marketed) depends on the type of shades, but by and large, the eyeshadows perform very much as they are described.

The mattes are velvety, blendable, and dense without being thick or too heavy, and they have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation where a little can go a long way with some of the deeper and richer hues. The satin and pearl finishes are smooth, lightly creamy, and firmer but not dense or thick with good pigmentation, blendability, and easy application. The more metallic finishes tend to be softer, creamy, and smooth with a bit more denseness and no powderiness. The sparkly/glittery shades are often designed to be applied wet for richer coverage or intensity, which has largely been my experience. Most of the shades last between eight and nine hours.

Entrapment

Entrapment is a dark brown with warmer undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the texture was soft, smooth, and velvety with good substance and denseness that enabled it to adhere evenly to bare skin without sheering out. It stayed on beautifully for nine hours before starting to fade noticeably.

Bronze Blaze

Bronze Blaze is a glittering, golden copper with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The brand recommends using a fingertip to apply this shade, which is a good way to work with it as it had larger sparkle paired with a smoother, lightly creamy base, so patting and pressing the eyeshadow on with a fingertip ensured fallout-free application. Alternatively, using a dampened brush worked well for opaque coverage, no fallout, and even adhesion to my lid that was still blendable along the edges. I was able to press the eyeshadow onto my dry with a brush with good results but had a little fallout if I wasn’t careful. It wore well for nine hours on me with just a touch of fallout.

Rose Gold 005

Rose Gold 005 is a medium-dark, rosy copper with subtle, warm undertones paired with a sparkling, metallic finish that twinkled gold and pink. The consistency was fairly smooth and blendable, though it had more sparkle in it and had that more baked-like texture that almost has a dry feel to it (without being dry or powdery). It can be used wet or dry where the dry application yielded more semi-sheer coverage with less depth but still a good amount of sparkle, minimal fallout, and easy blending. When applied with a dampened brush, it had opaque coverage and a strong, almost wet-like finish that was twinkling and shiny. It was one of the more magical shades in the palette and really drew the eye in. It lasted well for nine hours with very little fallout over time.

VR Fire Opal

VR Fire Opal is a bright, medium gold base with green-to-teal shifting sparkle and pearl. It had a metallic sheen that was very shiny and wet-looking on my lid. It applied evenly and smoothly regardless of whether I used it with a dry or dampened brush. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in a single layer and buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer on top. The eyeshadow was easy to blend out without fear of fallout. This shade stayed on nicely nine and a half hours on me before creasing faintly.

Xtreme Aubergine

Xtreme Aubergine is a deep, eggplant purple with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. There seemed to be nearly imperceptible shimmer strewn throughout that seems to be used to help improve blendability but has no impact on the look of the finish (matte). It was intensely pigmented with a soft, silky consistency that was velvet-like–dense but smooth–that adhered evenly to bare skin. The most impressive part about this shade was how blendable the edges were, and it did not sheer out or turn patchy as I blended out the shade on my skin. It lasted for just over nine hours on me before fading a touch.

Gilty Pleasure

Gilty Pleasure is a medium, golden taupe with warm undertones and a sparklig, metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation in a single layer with a soft, more loosely pressed consistency. Per the brand, this shade is advised to “press on with finger to build opacity,” which would be an accurate representation of this shade–it was buildable and opaque coverage was achievable when the eyeshadow was pressed onto the lid with a fingertip. I found success using a dampened brush, too, to get quick-and-easy opaque pigmentation without fallout, though a dry brush worked well enough that I didn’t feel like I had to use it damp to get good results. It lasted nicely for eight and a half hours with a smidgen of fallout.

Disobedient

Disobedient is a deep, red-toned brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was fantastic, while the consistency was smooth, velvety, and finely-milled with enough substance to adhere well to bare skin and still blend out easily. It wore stayed on well for nine hours on me before fading slightly.

Blitz Flame

Blitz Flame is a rich, medium-dark red with warm, rusty undertones and a metallic sheen. Per the brand, the recommended application is with fingertips for maximum coverage or to use a brush for a more diffused application. It had opaque coverage both wet and dry, but it did apply with more depth and richness when used with a fingertip or applied with a dampened brush. The texture was smooth, velvety, and blendable with nine-hour wear.

Astral Luna Gold

Astral Luna Gold is a bright, light-medium gold with a sparkling, glittering finish. In the pan, it appeared like an almost bluish-white, and while I thought it seemed like a duochrome, I didn’t really get a duochromatic effect on my lid–it looked more like a glittering, yellow gold on my lid (the look above that used this is a good perspective of how it appeared in person, also the angled swatch). For as glittery as the shade was, the texture was smoother and packed quite a punch of shimmer/sparkle in a single layer (medium to semi-opaque) but goes on nearly opaque when used with fingertip (which is the preferred application, per the brand). I also liked using it with a dampened brush to get opaque coverage with greater precision. Once on my lid, it wore well for eight and a half hours with slight fallout over time.

Gosh, you look beautiful ! Love the whole look. Looks great with your hair. This palette has such high grades. I have turquoise eyes, so I’m thinking these colors might look good on me. I’ll definitely check it out. Love the lipstick too.

It’s way out of my usual price range, but the minute it hits the Sephora Canada sire, I’m ordering. It’s so beautiful. I have the bronze 6 pan and am very impressed. The shimmers look great even on my mature lids.

I’m glad that this is permanent! I was waiting for your review to pull the trigger and now it’s sold out. Darn. Delayed gratification and something to look forward to, I suppose! Any word yet on when it will be in Sephora?

This palette is just magical looking when applied in your eye looks! Especially with your beautiful hair color. You’re tempting me to call my hair fixer-upper across town to get either smoky-violet or burgundy-red ombre highlights again! Eh, she’s too far away though.
I fully intend to buy this during November’s Rouge sale barring unforseen occurrences.

Actually I have found that her mattes can be work appropriate. I work as a nurse and have used them, as well as the shimmers, just not the high pigmented color shimmers. Ordered mine and one for a xmas gift with the 10% off code on the first day of the sale. Very excited, and had been waiting for this to come out as well as the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow talk blush and shadow palette. Can’t wait to play with it! Love the look that you’ve done Christine, you have given me ideas of where to start with the shadows. As per usual, thank you for the thorough review on this palette!

Wow. I’ve been eyeing this one, unsure how it’s going to work with my coloring, but I ended up biting the bullet with 10% off on PM’s site this morning. She shared a photo of Hedy Lamarr from ‘Ziegfeld Girl,’ drenched in stars and cited it as inspiration which pushed me over the edge. I’m most excited to play with fire opal, and hope I can recreate something similar to your…left (my right) eye :). It truly looks lovely on you, and your review is confirmation that I made a good decision this morning. Thanks for sharing!

Stunning palette, alas far too many reds for me. For a contrast, I wish a green or two would have been added. The shades I loved the most were Bronze Blaze and Gilty Pleasure.
It could be a deal breaker for some that you need to use your fingertips to place the eyeshadows or apply them damp.
Beautiful eye looks Christine and I love your hair.

Could you please put together a tutorial with this palette like you did with mothership subliminal? The one with the emerald Blitz? I know it is alot if work but I loved the fact that you did such a wonderful job creating those looks!! I use the palette daily. Very, very helpful to me since I am not that good with creating looks on my own

I wasn’t going to read the review, I knew it would suck me in, farther down the rabbit hole. I have so many eyeshadow palettes, that is the last thing I need. But PMG is divine decadence, and the way it looks on your eyes Christine… you can hear my bank account crying noooo! There is a Rouge event on Saturday, I’ll check it out there and I’m sure it will be coming home with me.

I’m stunned, I didn’t expect it to do so well by the swatches. So of course I thought, I may go for it, especially due to Xtreme Aubergine and the Astra Luna Gold (Wow!), but I have really good dupes for half of the set, so I can’t justify getting this at the price. Boo hoo!

If this comes to Sephora, I’d like to pick it up during the next VIB Sale. I’ve never been so tempted by such an expensive palette! When I first saw it online I did a double take. That’s how I knew I would make an exception for this one. I’m glad to hear it’s permanent!

I’m so glad this got good grades.
I ordered it as soon as I could, having thought about it since I first saw it was coming. I did have a bit of do I – don’t I and should I – shouldn’t I, but i decided I really wanted it. Now I can hardly wait for it to arrive here. I cost quite a lot, but it’s really not that much if you consider how much it would be per single.
I love the looks you did using the palette.

I don’t “need” any more eye palettes, but there is really something about Pat McGrath’s packaging and the layout of her palettes (especially THIS ONE) that gives me heart palpitations. I think it’s my inner magpie screaming “I need it, it’s so shiny!” I’m so happy this received a good score. Will be getting this for sure.

Man this palette was so pretty in person! When I was on vacation over the labour day weekend the Bloor St. Sephora in Toronto had this and most of her line instore. Again great formula but it runs a little too dark for my pale skin to make more looks out of it.

Same for the rest of the palette gorgeous shades but I can’t see myself reaching for more than half of them as they all run to sultry for daily looks on me.

But great opportunity to test out the lipstick shades I was curious about trying out a lot of the first batch shades run way darker than I thought. lol

Something looked really familiar about this palette and then it hit me – it looks like a dupe for Queen of Hearts. So I searched all the Queen of Hearts vs this palette. First of all, 9 of the 10 pans in this palette visually look almost identical to something in the 12 pans of QoH. K swatched everything (which I could post photos here) and got 5 pans matching very closely to reasonably well in color and texture (though not necessarily performance), though only 3 are listed in the palette dupe match-off here. I hate to say it, because this palette gave me a spectacular look right off the bat and the green shift to the opal sets it apart, but there is enough similarity between the palettes that statistically it’s extremely unlikely to be mere coincidence. Either it’s a blatant rip-off or there is some kind of understanding. Probably the latter or you’d hear an outcry from Coloured Raine. You’re paying $35 for QoH vs $125 Bronze Seduction, an $80 difference for a lux case, and 3 shimmers one of which you can’t get anywhere else.
