NARS Velvet Lip Glide
NARS Stripped Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a light-medium beige with a hint of pink paired with a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, and while it didn’t appear streaky, the color settled into lip lines noticeably. This was one of the worst performers in the range as a result, even though it felt comfortable to wear over the three and a half hours it lasted. MAC Obviously Bare (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). KKW Beauty Super Nude (LE, $18.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). NARS Unlaced Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a soft, light-medium pink with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied without streaking, but some of the color gathered into lip lines. The texture was smooth, lightweight, and non-sticky. The color lasted for three hours on me, but there was more color visible in my lip lines at that point as well. Bite Beauty Flat White (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). NARS Playpen Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that covered evenly and spread easily across the lips. The formula was hydrating, comfortable on the lips, and lasted for four hours on me. There was a slight amount of visible color in lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. Too Faced Peach Tease (P, $19.00) is darker, brighter (90% similar). Formula Overview
NARS Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a hybrid between lipstick and lipgloss that is hydrating, richly pigmented, and comfortable to wear. They have stronger color payoff, a non-tacky consistency, and a smoothness to their consistency that is a lot like a good lipstick, while they have a plusher, thicker texture that gives lips a plumper, fuller look along with a glossy sheen that is more like a gloss. The wear varied between three and five hours for me, which is more like a gloss than a lipstick. They develop a more “velvety” finish, which is code for “less shine” after two to three hours, and at that point, they tend to look more like a natural finish lipstick than a gloss. Some of the lighter shades settled into lip lines, but it varied from shade to shade. Overall, the formula was lightly to moderately hydrating and comfortable to wear. I would classify the formula more as a pigmented gloss than a glossy lipstick, if I had to put it firmly in one box. The formula has a vanilla scent but had no discernible taste to me.

Playpen looks like it will go well with bold eye looks
I bet it would! 🙂 Great eye, Katherine!
They all look nice but playpen does have a bit of extra-special-ness to it.
Glad you liked ’em, Erin!
Playpen sure is pretty! Very summer-like and fresh. Which means I may have to hold off until next *spring*, as I generally don’t wear many of these light, almost pastel shades during wintertime. The sliver of *winter* we even get here!
Last winter was cold for me, to be honest… I was wishing for more heat, haha!
We definitely had a few cold spells last winter! The winter before was even colder, though. I think it’s the dry climate that makes it feel so cold, especially once that sun sets!
Nice shades, but I don’t like products that pull into lip lines.
I totally understand!
Looks nice and soft, a bit streaky but overall, I don’t know. I can see darker colors being very opaque and nice but I wouldn’t get this in a neutral color for the price.
Makes sense to me!
Loving the eye look, especially with Playpen.
Thank you, Betty!
This looks interesting and the lip colours do look like a bit of a cross between lipstick and lip gloss. At least it didn’t leave your lips feeling dry and tacky. The last colour reminds of the Honey Bear one.
Yep! They are definitely a hybrid of the two types!
Playpen is the only one I would even consider and I’m drawn to deeper shades currently anyway so likely a complete pass for me.
I really like the look of Stripped, sans how it settles into lip lines of course. It’s a very pretty shade.
These looks oh so pretty! I really love the look of Playpen.
Oooh, Playpen <3 It will be mine!
All three are really pretty on you Christine, I can see why you chose these to review. Playpen is my favorite- but I dunno- with fall around the corner I’m looking for darker shades. Nancy T is correct- this might be a “wait till spring” option. Thanks for the review though!
