Marc Jacobs Whip It (304) Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer
Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer ($28.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is supposed to have “maximum color and brilliance” and “shine like ’30 coats of lacquer.'” The formula has a mint scent but not much flavor from what I could detect. The biggest downside is that several shades that I have are not in line with “maximum color.” It has a light-medium weight with a smooth, creamy consistency that has a light tackiness, but it isn’t particularly sticky and doesn’t seem to get tackier as it wears on. It has a high-shine finish and is comfortable to wear as it is lightly hydrating. I think the Lust for Lacquer formula was better, as it went on more smoothly and the full coverage part of the formula was more likely to be true.
Marc Jacobs Whip It (304) Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer ($28.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is described as a “bold iridescent magenta.” It’s a vibrant, fuchsia-red with iridescent violet shimmer and cool, blue undertones. It had semi-opaque color coverage that went on fairly evenly and lasted for five hours. It was lightly hydrating over time, but I did notice that the color slipped into lip lines slightly as well. I think this is supposed to be similar to Boom Boom from the prior gloss formula, but it is a lesser version of it. Urban Decay Big Bang (P, $22.00) is redder, darker. Maybelline Mystical Magenta (610) (P, $8.99) is lighter. Maybelline Opalescent Orchid (515) (P, $8.99) is lighter. Revlon HD Pink Ruby (515) (P, $8.99) is brighter, darker. MAC Hopelessly Devoted (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery. Revlon Adorned (P, $7.49) is brighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Boom Boom (210) (DC, $28.00) is more opaque. Burberry Pink Sweet Pea (LE, $29.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Marc Jacobs Love Drunk (320) Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer ($28.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is described as a “mauve-gold shimmer.” It’s a plummy brown with warm undertones and a dusting of fine, gold shimmer over a cream-like finish. It had semi-opaque oclor payoff that applied evenly, though I felt like something about the thickness of the formula emphasized lip lines, but it wasn’t clear if it was really the color settling in to me. The gloss lasted for four hours and was lightly moisturizing over time. NARS Shade II (LE, $26.00) is sheerer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Satisfaction (214) (DC, $28.00) is lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Shooting Stars (316) (DC, $28.00) is redder. Maybelline Intoxicating Spice (070) (P, $8.99) is redder, less shimmery. MAC Underdressed (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery. MAC Show Me (P, $19.50) is lighter, less shimmery. MAC Spice (P, $15.00) is pinker, less shimmery. MAC Over Indulgence (P, $20.00) is less shimmery, lighter. Chanel Impertinence (P, $32.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Marc Jacobs Pink Steam (322) Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer ($28.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is described as an “iridescent lavender shimmer.” It’s a lavender purple with lighter lavender shimmer and cooler undertones. Applied, it is semi-sheer, so the natural pink of my lips comes through and makes the gloss appear more like a pinky-lavender (subsequently, warmer in appearance), which means this is a gloss that may look quite different based on your natural lip color. It goes on unevenly and looks streaky, and it lasted for three hours, though it was comfortable to wear and lightly hydrating. Gucci Beauty Potent Violet (P, $32.00) is more sparkly, sheerer. MAC Reckless Desire (LE, $15.00) is more sparkly, lighter. Shiseido Nebula (VI207) (P, $25.00) is similar. MAC Vacant (LE, $15.00) is cooler-toned! MAC Perky (LE, $15.00) is more sparkly. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

To whip it! Whip it good!
LOL! 🙂
I like Love Drunk. Too bad about Pink Steam. I’ve been on a purple lipstick kick lately, and I love the idea of a gloss with iridescent violet shimmers, but most of them seem too sheer or the formulas aren’t that great.
It could work for layering, but I wish we could see some good purple glosses!
Swoon .. these are sooo pretty !!
Monica
I like the pearly shimmers they used!
For some reason these remind me of dingey 90s… Like a dark teenage girls bedroom will dusty drawers and those oldschool steve madden adds
Oh, that’s no good!
Love drunk is calling me – I don’t have anything close to it in my collection! It looks very pretty on you as well 🙂
Thanks a lot, Averymae! 🙂
Kind of bummed. At this price and a second go round, these should be in the “A” range. The shades are gorgeous and I like the hydrating factor. But, I think Urban Decay is winning in my book.
I think if you’re on the hunt for a couple of more pearly shades, MJB might have a few UD doesn’t, but I like the UD formula better for the creams.
Sounds like I may have to get some of both! I ordered a couple of UD from the Sephora sale!
Not good enough for the price. Pass.
I wish the pigmentation was more consistent!
Love Drunk looks fantastic on you!
Thanks, Jessica!
Boo! I really wanted Pink Steam to be awesome 🙁
Me too 🙁
Theyre pretty….but nothing extraordinary in terms of colour /pigmentation . I’ll be passing on these – thanks much as usual for the great swatches Christine!
No prob, Dee!
Hmmmmm…….Nice hues but I don’t like lipgloss that looks like MAC Lipglass once applied. (Shine like 30 coats of lacquer Marc?) It feels so dated to me (read: 90’s & early 00’s). So many of the Marc Jacob hues across the board feel cosmetically redundant in its industry–maybe I just expected more from the line? Perhaps a true extension of his Runway and corporate branding, similar to how Christopher Bailey accomplished his vision for Burberry Beauty. Do you know what I mean Christine?
I’ve been pretty impressed with the colors/ranges from MJB, so I’m on a different page 🙁 I don’t like the new/revamped formula so much, but I loved the shade range and opacity of the full Lip Vinyls from before.
Ohhhhh but the old formula had such messy packaging! The tubes leaked everywhere! These have to be an upgrade in that regard.
I’ve traveled with those, and I never had a problem! 🙁 I’m so sad to hear others did!
Love Drunk looks gorgeous! Especially as a topper. Whip It is cool, but I do already have Revlon Pink Ruby. And Pink Steam, which I was really hoping would be lovely and quite different, is just to sheer and splotchy looking on.
Pink Steam might work better over a lipstick!
I think I’ll just stick to the UD ones. The only of these that I would even consider is Love Drunk, but I have a gut feeling that UD Liar or Kinky would still be nicer even.
Love Drunk is a lovely shade. Too bad it feels heavy on the lips though.
It’s definitely not super lightweight.
You look GORGEOUS!! I love the copper lid. 🙂
Thank you, Shipra!
Whip it is certainly nice.
That seemed to be one of the better ones!
Nice, but all i could see was your eyes. I love the look on you! 🙂
Aw <3 Thank you!
Pity about Pink Steam as I love lavender purpely colours on most anything. Whip It looks very nice for my skintone.
And a very good thing, we are finally getting a Marc Jacobs counter in Sephora here! Yay!
I must now pay a lot more attention to grades when it comes to this brand 🙂
YAYYYYYY!
