Marc Jacobs Sugar High Le Marc Lip Creme & Lip Lacquer Reviews & Swatches
Sugar High (292)
Marc Jacobs Beauty Sugar High (292) Le Marc Lip Crème ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium, muted coral with warm, rosy undertones and a satin finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without tugging. The texture was lightly creamy without being too slippery, though there was a touch of product visible in my deeper lip lines in the close-up photo but not enough that it was visible in person. It wore well for five hours (not close to the 10-hour wear claim) and was lightly hydrating.

Formula Overview
$30.00/0.12 oz. - $250.00 Per Ounce
The formula claims to have "10-hour" wear with “vivid pigment” and a “rich, velvety” texture that is “ultra-hydrating.” As you might expect, they don’t last ten hours; they last four to six hours with some leaving a stain. The texture is lightweight, creamy, and glides on without dragging or tugging on the lip, but it doesn’t have a lot of slip so it stays in place. The formula can be lightly hydrating to drying, depending on the shade. The lipstick has a sweet, floral scent, but it is very subtle, even when smelled directly from the tube.

Sugar High (292)
PPermanent. $30.00.
Sugar High (382)
Marc Jacobs Beauty Sugar High (382) Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer ($28.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with warm undertones and fine gold and pink pearl. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied evenly but pulled into my lip lines noticeably. The gloss had a very shiny, almost gel-like finish–thicker and plumping without being heavy, and it was just barely tacky. I just wish the product sat better on my lips! It wore well for four and a half hours and was hydrating while worn.

Formula Overview

It is supposed to have "maximum color and brilliance" and "shine like 30 coats of lacquer." The formula has a mint scent but not much flavor from what I could detect. While the brand's general description is "maximum color," they seem to modify that with individual shade descriptions as several shades are specifically described as "opaque" and a few are noted as "sheer" with the remainder having no specific coverage descriptor (as of April/May 2020).
This seems to suggest that the rest are neither sheer nor opaque but somewhere in-between--I would lean toward "semi-opaque" to be closer to "maximum color," though I really think that's quite confusing to the customer. It would make more sense to simply describe it as a range of sheer to opaque shades or that they're medium coverage (as a whole).
The coverage ranged from semi-sheer to opaque with a fair amount of shades between medium and semi-opaque payoff in a single layer, and they do have a very high-shine finish that makes my lips look more voluminous.
The consistency was smooth, like a creamy gel as it was a bit thicker (without being heavy or tacky), and very easy to spread across my lips. It was comfortable to wear and moisturizing over time. Some shades smoothed out my lip lines, though it wasn't consistent throughout the range as a few settled into them (usually paler, milkier shades).

That gloss is such a gorgeous color…too bad it does that pulling into the lip lines thing. If it didn’t, I would have wanted it. $’s saved!
I love how this looks on you and in other reviews I’ve seen, but it pulls so brown on me. Sigh. I had high hopes.
Last month I bought the MJ High Sugar trio containing the mini versions of the lipstick, lip gloss and lip liner, mostly for the lip gloss, thinking that it is a shimmery medium pink. It pulls brownish/orangey on me (fair skin, not pigmented lips). As you mentioned Christine, it didn’t sit well on my lips either. In fact it looks exactly like in the first close-up photo showing your lips. Such a disappointment for me!
*MJ Sugar High (NOT High Sugar) 🙂
LOL! It made me question it was a rough lip week!!
LOL! t was a rough week already and it’s just Wednesday 🙂 It’s the cold. And the snow. I can’t take -20C something any more tbh. This winter is never ending here in Montreal.
I’d tell you it’s cold, but then you’re have to smile, laugh, and give me a pat on the head as being here in Arizona, “cold” is rather relative to the rest of the world 😉
Hope the cold lets up sooner rather than later!
I know 🙂 Can’t wait for the spring to come…
These 2 are available in a mini set for $25.. The gloss is beautiful, smooth, and nonsticky. It also comes with a mini lip liner which was basically a throwaway.
I purchased these in a trio (with a lip pencil) after the holidays from Sephora. Nice size to try all three (at a good price) and it’s a good addition to someone who has an addiction to nude-ish lips, be it gloss, liquid or lipstick.
So far I’ve used the gloss the most.
The gloss would be beautiful over a more opaque lipstick. Too bad it settles into the lines when worn alone.
Hi! Love your reviews! Is the sugar high gloss a good dupe for nars Chelsea girls? Mj gloss is my fave but cg is my go to colour.
Sorry, I don’t have that any more (I’m not sure if I ever did) so I can’t compare!
You should get Chelsea girls, it would look SO great with your colouring!
I confused this product with the one in the pot from many years ago… so I have reviewed it actually! https://www.temptalia.com/product/nars-cosmetics-lip-gloss/chelsea-girls/
It’s not my cup of tea personally, but to answer your previous question – after looking at the swatches, it’s definitely a lot peachier than Sugar!
You are right, Chelsea girls is peachier than sugar high. I swatched on my hand and although I prefer the pink tone I’m not a fan of the pearlescence of sugar high, so I’ll have to return it. Looking at photos I think maybe Nars pulsion is a good dupe for sugar high without the pearl?! I won’t order though in case it is LE (I’d hate to love it). Geez, and I remember loving the pearl in MAC prr like 20 years ago! How things change!
