Marc Jacobs Shine a Light Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Review & Swatches
Shine a Light
Marc Jacobs Beauty Shine a Light Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer ($28.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a medium-dark gold with warmer, yellow undertones and pink and gold flecks of shimmer and larger sparkle. If you dig medium, sparkly glosses, I’m sure you’ll find little to fault this shade for, but it was advertised as having “maximum coverage and brilliance.” The coverage was medium–plenty of my natural lip color came through–with a sheer to medium level of coverage in the vein of shimmer/sparkle. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and non-sticky, which made it comfortable and plush to wear but there was enough larger sparkle that those more sensitive to feeling those particles may find the base is not thick enough to avoid the textural element the sparkle brought to the party. (I didn’t find it rough or gritty but find my ability to detect that seems to be weaker than others.) It stayed out of most of my lip lines, despite the lighter base color. It wore well for four and a half hours on me and was hydrating over time.

It is supposed to have "maximum color and brilliance" and "shine like 30 coats of lacquer." The formula has a mint scent but not much flavor from what I could detect. While the brand's general description is "maximum color," they seem to modify that with individual shade descriptions as several shades are specifically described as "opaque" and a few are noted as "sheer" with the remainder having no specific coverage descriptor (as of April/May 2020).
This seems to suggest that the rest are neither sheer nor opaque but somewhere in-between--I would lean toward "semi-opaque" to be closer to "maximum color," though I really think that's quite confusing to the customer. It would make more sense to simply describe it as a range of sheer to opaque shades or that they're medium coverage (as a whole).
The coverage ranged from semi-sheer to opaque with a fair amount of shades between medium and semi-opaque payoff in a single layer, and they do have a very high-shine finish that makes my lips look more voluminous.
The consistency was smooth, like a creamy gel as it was a bit thicker (without being heavy or tacky), and very easy to spread across my lips. It was comfortable to wear and moisturizing over time. Some shades smoothed out my lip lines, though it wasn't consistent throughout the range as a few settled into them (usually paler, milkier shades).

Gosh, I really love how this looks. I would use it as a topper over a darker nude lipstick to impart dimension and shimmer. However, I do have MAC Pleasure Planet, so I’m not sure, unless Pleasure Planet turned.
To be honest Christine, I thought this looked awful – sticky lipgloss with flecks of gold with little or no discernable colour. A very easy pass.
Just brought but haven’t tried this yet. I hope it performs better than a B for me lol. Needs to be $28 for a lip gloss good or else I’ll return it.
I love this! Maybe I’m less critical because i got it 50% off on Sephora but as a non gloss wearing girl looking for some occasional sparkle, I find it really smooth, hydrating with good stay around the edges of my lip on its own
