Marc Jacobs Runway '19 O!Mega Gel Powder Eyeshadows Reviews & Swatches
Rose
Marc Jacobs Beauty Rose O!Mega Gel Powder Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had an incredibly silky, smooth consistency that was lightly powdery in the pan but had enough substance that it didn’t immediately sheer away to nothing when applied to bare skin. I did find that it was a little more prone to darkening in places but seemed to diffuse and blend out from there enough that I didn’t notice any unevenness after I finished applying the color. It had opaque pigmentation that stayed on well for eight hours on me.

Formula Overview
$29.00/0.13 oz. - $223.08 Per Ounce
The formula promises "12 hours" of wear with "high-impact, crease-resistant color." The matte shades were very smooth and finely-milled that they felt almost cream-like, though they were definitely a powder. They were pigmented and most shades blended out easily over bare skin with eight to nine hour wear. The shimmery shades were creamier, a bit more silicone-like by touch, but they weren't too dense or too thick, so they didn't emphasize my lid texture and still applied well with brushes. They lasted between eight and nine hours on me and were typically quite pigmented.

Violet
Marc Jacobs Beauty Violet O!Mega Gel Powder Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a medium-dark, lavender purple with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a more powdery consistency, which even translated in the swatch, despite having a more pigmented formulation to start with. The color had a tendency to sheer out a bit when applied over bare skin, and there was noticeable fallout (even though I tried to avoid it). The powder itself seemed particularly finely-milled, but it seemed to lack enough binder to keep it together. It’s the type of shade that might be worth working with using an eyeshadow primer or more blown out (say in the crease) than an all-over lid shade. This shade stayed on well for seven hours before I noticed fading on my skin.

Smoke
Marc Jacobs Beauty Smoke O!Mega Gel Powder Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a faded, bluish-gray with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. I struggled to work with this shade, as it applied unevenly and darkened noticeably on my skin, even over the drier skin on my arm. The color darkened in general (compared to the pan color), but it also darkened more in some areas than others, which was only exacerbated when I applied it to my lid (which is more normal than dry). I highly recommend using this over an eyeshadow primer and likely using it as a crease/transition shade, which is where it seemed to be easiest to use, as the edges blended out decently. The texture was silky smooth but moderately powdery with some fallout during application. It lasted for seven hours on me before fading noticeably.

Between having dupes for the 1st two, and no real desire for the 3rd shade in the least, I’m good. Seems like this trio falls a bit short compared to the initial MJ O!Mega singles a little while back? Or, perhaps I’m remembering wrong?
I nabbed the smoke colour from the Big S sale, it’s difficult.. great colour, but so sheer and patchy. Works well enough with MAC Painterly as a base. Definitely needs a tacky base. Glad I only grabbed the one. Like the colour enough (it’s so mod) to keep it, but it’s no Sydney Grace, that’s for sure.
Largely how I felt – it’s not a color you see often, and I guess if they’d all end up like this, that tells us why….
Definitely not worth $29, especially when there are great affordable brands like Colourpop.
Smoke is such a pretty color, but so disappointing quality-wise. What a shame. Hopefully Sydney Grace will save the day with a dupe!
I am really curious about what quality control procedures these brands have in place. Do they not have real people try products out before releasing them?
Sometimes I wonder if it’s a shade that maybe was just used all-over and really blown out, over primer perhaps, and that’s how they might expect it to be worn – but then it’s not really indicated as such anywhere!
What a bummer! I had this in my cart for the Sephora spring sale but left it to see what your thoughts were. I’m glad I held off on the purchase. Thanks, Christine!
Smoke is a pretty shade but it’s a shame that the formula is so poor.
I was thinking about Smoke for the sale but decided against it as it ran just a little too blue for me. I was afraid it would look to much like a baby blue. Glad I resisted the temptation now. Seems like several brands have been all over the place since Christmas. A product that gets a good review and then one that is terrible. Not sure what is going on but again so thankful to have Temptalia as a resource before purchasing. Thank you for saving us all a lot of money or perhaps, tempting us to buy more sometimes. At least when we do buy we know what we are getting, LOL!
I bought the violet one and haven’t used it yet. I’m hoping that I can use it as a blush if I can’t get it to work as an eyeshadow!
I bought the Smoke shade but I’m returning it today, which I rarely do. It deepened up on me as well and I can’t justify keeping it around when I know I won’t use it often enough, especially with how much you have to baby it.
I really love Smoke but after the review and the hefty $ I’ll pass. There are some great dupes. Thanks again, Christine! No one wants to waste money and I have enough trouble applying my e/s as it is to spend on a poorly rated e/s.
I tried all 3 of these at Sephora and ended up buying the Violet one. I like the formula and didn’t really have a problem with it when I applied it in the store, but I haven’t tried it since I got home, so we’ll see what happens. The Smoke one was just too blue on me. Rose was ok, but nothing special.
