Marc Jacobs Beauty Socialeyes Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Socialeyes (780)
Marc Jacobs Beauty Socialeyes (780) Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette ($49.50 for 0.21 oz.) is a neutral palette that has a slightly more neutral-to-cool lean until you get to the brighter, yellow gold that contrasts a lot with the other shades in the palette. The quality of the eyeshadows was good; they were pigmented, blendable, and lasted around eight hours on average. The worst shade was the deepest shade–Dancin’ Shoes–and could have been more blendable and more pigmented but was by no means a challenge to use.

Madame
Madame is a pale beige with subtle, warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had opaque color coverage but the consistency was more powdery, despite being very silky and finely-milled, so I had to be careful to avoid a bit of fallout (which could cause deeper shades to turn grayish). There were signs of fading present after eight hours of wear.

Social
Social is a light, rosy mauve with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent pigmentation in a single layer paired with a soft, finely-milled consistency that was lightly powdery in the pan but not prone to fallout during application.
The eyeshadow applied evenly and diffused well along the edges. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Butterfly
Butterfly is a medium, taupe-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was opaque, while the consistency felt smooth, velvety and soft with just a touch of powderiness in the pan.
It wasn’t enough to cause problems with fallout but ensured it was blendable and easy to work with. It lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Sets the Mood
Sets the Mood is a medium, grayish-taupe with cool undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that could be built up to full coverage with less than half of a layer more. The eyeshadow had a soft, finely-milled consistency that was a little dusty in the pan but nothing that proved to be detrimental to application. It applied evenly and diffused well along the edges but didn’t sheer out too readily. It wore well for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

Her Style
Her Style is a light, golden taupe with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was very soft with a softer press, so I had to use a lighter hand to avoid picking up too much product, which would result in fallout. It was very pigmented, so a light hand was all that was necessary for getting full coverage in a single pass. The eyeshadow applied evenly, “melted” almost on my lid, and sat well. The color stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Pleather Python
Pleather Python is a bright, medium-dark gold with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic finish. The eyeshadow had intense pigmentation with a smooth, almost cream-like texture that was dense without being overly firm or too thick. The product applied evenly to my lid and blended out with ease along the edges. It lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Dancin' Shoes
Dancin’ Shoes is a blackened brown with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. There were fine shimmers strewn through a more matte finish but enough shimmer to have some translate to the lid.
It had good color payoff in a single layer but had to be built up for full coverage. The texture was soft, fairly blendable but could have been easier to work with. This shade wore nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably.

As I look this over, I realize that I can pretty easily dupe every last one of these shades to a decent enough degree that I don’t exactly need this palette. However, I am very inspired to create that eye look you did with it! I am totally digging the pop of bright yellow gold in the middle of a fairly cool-toned eye look. Oh, and that little hint of green on the lower lashline just makes everything POP!
I find that this is a more of a random collection of shades than MJ’s usual 7 pan efforts. The bright gold in there seems out of sync with the rest of the coolish toned shades. Maybe a plum instead? The only shade I really liked is Her Style. A lovely eye look Christine nonetheless.
I received this about a week ago but didn’t use it until this afternoon and loved it. Of coourse my look was not as stunning as yours but still satisfying. It is my first MJ e/s purchase and not my last..
I dunno. I like the shade Pleather Python, but even though it is a dirtier gold, I’m not sure I like it with the cooler shades.
I feel like it dominates any look because of the high contrast! Given how many golds and warmer tones there are in most palettes, I’d definitely have loved to have seen something more fitting to this palette — from plum to purple to berry to pewter to teal!
Exactly. A pewter or cool teal would have been stunning!
