Marc Jacobs Beauty Gold Edition Highliners Reviews & Swatches
Oh My Gold (102)
Marc Jacobs Beauty Oh My Gold (102) Highliner Gel Crayon ($26.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a medium gold with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic sheen with light sparkle throughout. The texture felt smooth and glided readily across my lash line, but it didn’t deposit color as evenly as other shades in the formula–I think that added bit of larger sparkle pushed the base color around a bit.
It had semi-opaque coverage in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. It stayed on well for 10 hours and was actually harder to remove than the less-sparkly shades in the range.

Top Brass (104)
Marc Jacobs Beauty Top Brass (104) Highliner Gel Crayon ($26.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a medium copper with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. There were fine sparkles woven throughout the product, which were fine enough not to feel gritty as it was applied to my lower lash line, but they were more visible. It had rich color coverage in a single pass, which applied evenly to my lash line without dragging. The texture felt more velvety than creamy (so less “wet” in feel) and was comfortable to work with. It lasted nicely for 10 hours before thinning slightly.

Glittersweet (106)
Marc Jacobs Beauty Glittersweet (106) Highliner Gel Crayon ($26.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a medium bronze with moderate, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had noticeable sparkle particles throughout (but it’s not glitter), and I didn’t sense the texture of the sparkles as I applied it, though it seemed to be more noticeable as I removed the product at the end (larger chunks came off).
It had excellent pigmentation that applied fairly evenly to my lower lash line, but I had to be careful not to overlap the strokes too much or else some product was pushed around and created a smidgen of unevenness. It wore well for 10 hours before fading slightly. I noticed this shade was a bit harder to remove than other Highliners.

Olive You (108)
Marc Jacobs Beauty Olive You (108) Highliner Gel Crayon ($26.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a deep, olive green with muted, warm undertones and a mix of emerald green and olive pearl that gave it a metallic finish. It had rich color payoff in a single stroke, which adhered evenly and applied smoothly to my lower lash line. The consistency glided on but didn’t feel overly emollient. It stayed on nicely for 10 hours before fading slightly.

Pewter Please (110)
Marc Jacobs Beauty Pewter Please (110) Highliner Gel Crayon ($26.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a light-medium taupe with neutral-to-warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had very faint sparkle woven throughout but was more metallic than it was sparkly. The texture was smooth, more velvety than creamy, so it glided easily across my lash line but didn’t feel wet. It had opaque color coverage that adhered evenly and lasted well for 10 hours before showing signs of fading.

Ooh, Pewter Please is super tempting!
Wow – all of these are so gorgeous! Pewter Please, Olive You and especially Glittersweet are my favourites but they’re all really stunning. Alas, I’ve been disappointed by how quickly my MJ Highliner dried out and became almost unusable so I don’t think I’m likely to purchase any of them again (but I may cave and give Glittersweet a try and just make a point of using it every day).
They are definitely ‘our’ kind of shades!
I have Olive You and absolutely love it! It’s pretty versatile; it doesn’t look green on me, more of a general neutral shade. I would love to try some of the others!
I’m seeing some pretties! If I didn’t already have UD Stash, I would without hesitation buy Olive You. As it goes, I have NO dupes of my other two picks; Top Brass and Pewter Please. Narrowing it down to just one? I have nothing even remotely like Pewter Please!
Under my current circumstances I’ll probably wait to see if they last long enough to go on sale, but I do like the looks of Top Brass and Glittersweet.
I love and would wear every single one of these shades – it would too hard to pick a favourite. All are of excellent quality and they look beautiful in the swatches.
I LOVE MJ Highliners in greneral. These colors are gorgeous. The only pass for me is “Oh My Gold”. I prefer somewhat deeper colors even though my eyes are light.
I’m not usually one to fall for packaging (too hard) but wow these look gorgeous. I think I might try to save up for Olive You. They are all very pretty and wearable colors, but I don’t own any olive green liners so Olive You is my favorite of the bunch.
I’m really holding myself back. I’ll put them, yes all of them on my wish list. I knew they were going to review well.
Oh, these all look really lovely. Olive You reminds me of an old Sephora pencil called Snakeskin Dress that I LOVED.
If I had to pick just one, it would be Top Brass but honestly, these all look completely gorgeous.
They seem really similar in both color and texture to Sephora’s eye pencils which are great! And cheaper 😉
Especially the pewter and bronze ones – dupes would be Flirting game and maybe Cocoa or Cappucino
these are stunning!!!
Well, there goes my no buy of color cosmetics. Hopefully, I can just turn it into a low buy :). I ordered top brass, olive you, and pewter please. I love these colors for eyeliners and just can’t resist. I’m so excited for them to come in!!
Olive You is calling my name, particularly since I’ve been using T-Rex a lot the last few weeks and it’s a bit too cool for me.
In your experience, Christine, do you think it will last until sale? Or should I rush and buy it now?
It’s really hard to say – a lot of times, they do last, but sometimes they sell out, too.
These are so tempting. Christine do they have any smudgeability or play time before they set?
You can lightly smudge if you work very quickly, but they are pretty quick to set – it’s one of the harder formulas to remove!
These are all so beautiful – I love shimmery, saturated liner! But I can’t justify paying this price when there are so many excellent liners for less. Wunder2 brand comes to mind as having dupes for almost all of these. I’ll keep my eyes open for a sale down the road, and might reconsider then.
Would love to know the difference between Rococoa and Glittersweet or Olive You, they seem kind of the same, and curious to know the depth of the colors, as online Glittersweet looks much darker than Rococoa, but your swatches look so much lighter because of the glitter!
