Glitz Alright

Marc Jacobs Beauty Glitz Alright Glam Glitter Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($24.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a muted, medium plum with warmer, brownish undertones and a glittery finish. It had semi-sheer coverage, which was buildable to semi-opaque coverage with two to three layers (or, preferrably, applied in short, overlapping strokes). The texture was still smooth and creamy, but it just didn’t have the intensity and oomph of other shades. The wear was good, though, and came in at a solid 11 hours before it started to thin slightly.

Formula Overview

$24.00/0.01 oz. - $2400.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to wear for "12-hour[s]" with "amazing glide, waterproof wear" that stays movable for "15 seconds" before setting down. What distinguishes it from the other Highliners is the finish; it is supposed to be "glitter-packed" but still go on smoothly. All seven were very creamy and smooth, which made them comfortable to apply on the lash line or on the waterline (I couldn't find any warning that said to avoid the waterline, but those who have sensitive eyes will likely want to look toward the Matte Highliners). The pigmentation varied a bit from shade to shade, though most were buildable in practice or opaque when applied in short strokes rather than a single, fluid stroke. They wore well for 11 to 12 hours on me with little signs of wear (certainly wearable beyond 11/12 hours).

The biggest downside to the formula, generally, was that removing them 100% is difficult - there were always stray bits of glitter/sparkle leftover even after doing my best to remove! This is common with fine glitter, so not a total surprise, but I wanted to mention it!

Glam Jam

Marc Jacobs Beauty Glam Jam Glam Glitter Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($24.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a deep red with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of silver sparkle and fine pearl. It had opaque pigmentation with a creamy, smooth consistency that was easy to apply as it glided across my lash line without tugging. The color distributed evenly as I went–no need to layer–and didn’t feather or move around while it set. It lasted well for 12 hours with minimal fading, thinning, and I didn’t notice any fallout/migration.

Glitterbug

Marc Jacobs Beauty Glitterbug Glam Glitter Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($24.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a deep brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a fine sparkle. It did not seem to be particularly sparkly–wouldn’t have classified it as a Glam Glitter finish as compared to a shimmer finish, really–but it was richly pigmented and had a very creamy, almost slippery, texture that was easy to glide across my lash line for opaque, even color application in a single stroke. It wore beautifully for over 12 hours without fading or thinning on me.

I remember when MAC came out with those flesh toned Chromagraphic (think that’s what they were called) liners and everyone (including ME) was all over them for just the reason I explained. Even with concealer – I have a teeny brush for making sure I can get it up under my bottom lashes because I have red veining there and, at least on me, it just looks like I’ve got red, irritated eyes if I don’t cover it up. It’s one of the reasons I avoid red eyeshadows (d*mn you, ABH Modern Renaissance and all your imitators!) and have to be so careful even with shades that border on red like Smashbox Headline….it’s so easy to end up with skin that looks irritated.

Oh, I didn’t think you were, Christine – I hope it didn’t come across that way. I actually wish I could easily wear shades like that or like Headline or UD Last Call (I love that colour) but I think I’m just too fair and pink toned (hence the pinkness around my eyes) so it brings that out even more – the “albino rabbit” look. I wish it didn’t.
