Fine(wine)

Marc Jacobs Beauty Fine(wine) Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner ($24.00 for 0.0038 oz.) is a deep red with subtle, cool undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, though it had a more emollient, creamy consistency that made it more prone to moving the product around as I applied it so it was best to work in fluid, single-stroke motions and then go back where needed. Once it set in place, the product stayed on well for 12 hours on my lower lash line and waterlines, though it was slightly worn on my water lines after 12 hours.

Formula Overview

$24.00/0.0038 oz. - $6315.79 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have an ultra-fine tip (2mm) that "glides on precisely" for "all-day wear" that is "waterproof." They are typically nearly opaque to opaque in coverage in one, smooth and fluid line. The consistency is creamy, smooth, and not prone to skipping, while the creaminess ensures that it doesn't tug or pull at the lash line (or water line). I find that some shades apply well on my lower waterline but not the upper waterline (like Blacquer doesn't want to adhere to my waterline at all but Grapevine goes on like butter). They have lasted between eight and 12 hours, depending on placement and level of allergies I'm enduring at a particular moment (my eyes are normally watery but when I'm dealing with more noticeable allergies, I'm always leaking out of the corner of my eye).

(Pink)y Swear

Marc Jacobs Beauty (Pink)y Swear Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner ($24.00 for 0.0038 oz.) is a bright, pale pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color coverage in a single pass, which adhered well to my upper and lower water lines along with lower lash line. The consistency was smooth, gel-like, and glided easily across my lash lines without dragging or tugging. It stayed on well for 12 hours on my lower lash line and 10 hours with minimal fading on my water line (but still visibly intact after 12 hours).

Just glancing at a couple of the dupes… UD Heartless is a traditional pencil and 0.04 oz, and Colour Pop Best O is a twist-up and 0.01 oz. So these have less than half the product of Colour Pop and 1/10 the product of UD? I never thought about it before, but this does seem to be a important factor.

A lot of the dupes aren’t as highly rated however. I have also found with Colorpop anyway, a lot of their gel pencils will dry out after a couple of years, and I will have to throw them away, whereas I haven’t had the same issue with some of the Sephora penicls or Julep pencils I have. I have had this issue with Marc Jacobs pencils though.

I also don’t find the amount of product to be a factor, especially with these less neutral colors, as I don’t wear them enough to go through them quickly.

Super handy if you’re going for that pink eye/Ebola look, I guess?!

I like a good burgundy or wine liner but that red looks a little bit gory for me…

Well, you always look lovely and not at all like you’re bleeding from your eyeballs! 😀 😉

I have a couple of Zoeva coral reds and Sephora copper gel liner that pulls very reddish on me, so I think I’m going to have to push my comfort zone on this a bit more…

I use the black, Submarine and Code Blue skinny liners for my upper water-line and they give a gorgeous effect but I can’t imagine using either that red one or the pink for the effect I want (thicker lashes, more “boom” eyes without being obvious)

I have MJ’s Fine Wine highliner and love it so am set. I think Pinky Swear would not look good on me but I’ll check it out because I love MJ highliners so am open to any new approach by the brand.

Christine, have you used Pinky Swear in any of your looks?
I love it, but would like to see it in use, to make sure I don’t look like I have pink-eye. You and I have similar coloured eyes as well.
I checked all your “recent Looks” but don’t see it.
Thanks!
