Makeup Look: Neutral Eyes with Teal Eyeliner
Neutral Eyes with Teal Eyeliner
Last week, a few readers said they missed seeing looks posted on the blog (as in, cohesive ones!), so I’ll try to post some periodically–depending on whether there’s time for a more “free” day. Sometimes there are so many products to test, I can’t give up the facial real estate 🙂 On Saturday, we spent all day with my husband’s family, which is usually a 14-hour minimum, so it’s a day where I prefer to just go with something that works. I remember several readers wanted to see Stila Smudge Stick Mint Julep in action, so I thought this might a good opportunity to showcase that as well. Going forward, I will try to post looks using recently reviewed products, but this was a very “for me” look more than anything, so hopefully you can forgive the excess of older products in it.
Eyes
A lot of the times if I’m not specifically testing something for wear, then I’ll reach for products that I really, really love that are, more-than-likely, discontinued or long ago limited editions. I love the two shades of cream eyeshadow Tom Ford released a year ago so much that I keep them in my basics/regular routine drawer, and I always take them with me when I travel. I’m so used to not using primer these days, but when I know I’m going out and about all day and am not testing, then I’ll still start with a primer!
I used NARS Smudge Proof spread all over the lid to the brow bone with a finger tip. I also like to take a little and apply it to the lower lash line for extra hold for the eyeliners I’ll use as well. Next, I applied Tom Ford Escapade Cream Eyeshadow to the first two-thirds of the lid, starting from the inner lid and moving outwards. Tom Ford Pink Haze Cream Eyeshadow was applied to the outer third of the lid and into the crease, blending outwards and upwards. To soften the edge of the crease eyeshadow, I applied Burberry Trench Eyeshadow to the brow bone (this is my go-to highlighter). For the lower lash line, first I applied Marc Jacobs Beauty Ody(sea) (62) Highliner Gel Crayon, and then I applied Stila Smudge Stick Mint Julep underneath the inner two-thirds of the lower lash line and along the water line. The effect made it look as if the eyeliner was glowing–I was quite in love with it! For lashes, I used a mascara fan brush to apply MAC Opulash Mascara.
Face
Normally, I find primer an unnecessary step with my skin type (normal-to-dry) for regular, everyday wear, but yesterday was going to be a longer, 14+ hour kind of day, so I started by applying Hourglass Mineral Veil all over my face. Then, I mixed two shades of Guerlain Parure de Lumiere Foundation with half of a pump of Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Skin Liquid Illuminating Emulsion as my base. For blush, I applied Troy Surratt Duchesse Blush on the apples of cheeks. I set with Urban Decay Naked Loose Finishing Powder and finished with Guerlain Wulong Pressed Meteorites Powder.
Lips
I mixed two shades of OCC Stained Gloss in Aurora and Dune (reviews are forthcoming).

You have paired the perfect dress, perfect earrings and perfect makeup with this look! WOW! Gorgeous! You like like a cute doll! <3
It’s one of my favorite dresses! 😀 A total splurge for my sister’s college graduation a few years ago but love it as much as I did the first time I wore it!
That print is great, and I LOVE those earrings!
It does look gorgeous from the little peek I got! Wish I could see more of it! Perfect for Spring I am sure! 🙂
I love teal!
Me too! 🙂 If that wasn’t, you know, making one of the more obvious statements of the day.
Great look! I have really missed these posts! Keep ’em coming 😉
So happy to see that you take time (off) to put on makeup/create looks just for YOU and not just everyone else/testing purposes!
Haha! Well, it happens maybe once or twice a month, lol 😉 If family visits us here, then it’s no big deal since I can adjust/remove/clean-up products that don’t do well or won’t hold up for 12+ hours. To be honest, I really enjoy testing and reporting back more than applying just because, I think. It’s the interaction and seeing what readers think about products as they get posted on the blog that really make me happy!
Omg I love this look to death! This looks so beautiful and creative and you look great. Would u mind doing another look in the near future using the stila eyeliners with a colored look ? Iike with the electric palette or the Marc Jacobs siren palette. Idk if I’m the only one that wants to request a look with colors but I hope some other readers agree with me on this. But thank you for your commitment, its really appreciated.
I’ll definitely keep that in mind! Right now, I am thinking about using some of my “favorite” products that were recently reviewed every few weeks, because I really would rather post something where you can still buy the products used (or perhaps, were recently acquired by readers as well!). We will see!
Yayyy, a full look! I really like it (and it looks very cohesive with your outfit and earings!). I like that it’s more personal. And you already do a fantastic job reviewing tons of products, so it’s also really nice to see the products you reach when off-duty. 🙂
Thanks so much, Anne! 🙂 Funny enough, I reach for the same few over and over again – I think it’s that they’re really flattering, go-to products, so when I can wear them, I really want to, lol!
If I search the dictionary for the definition of spring this photo of you should show up. The combo of your make-up, your earrings and your top/dress is so fun and makes me want to wear color! 😀
You are too sweet, Cel! Thank you 🙂
Hey Christine, oh what a stunning look! I’ve always loved teal on you, and the eyeliner goes so well with the eyeshadows! I might have similar shades so I’ll try to recreate this look at some point 🙂
Thank you, Sunny! I hope you can try the mix of the eyeliners! That was my favorite part. I was like, “OOOH!”
Lovely….all the colors in makeup are complementing beautifully with ur skin tone….i am really in love with this new “series” of makeup looks…
Thanks a lot, Faiza!
Interesting look. Love it!!!
Thanks, Laarni!
Yay! I was just thinking the other day I missed your YouTube tutorials! I would say this is a great compromise. Also, I love the Marc Jacobs highliners. They DO NOT move and are such beautiful colors. Lookin good!
They’re really great eyeliners! Stila’s last well for me, but after 16 hours of wear, MJB was still kicking around quite noticeably but Stila’s was thinner/less apparent.
beautiful shirt/top and also i need that marc jacobs eyeliner now!
It is gorgeous! I also recommend MJB’s Intro(vert)!
So, so pretty! You really have got the vibrant blue lower lash line down. I can never get it so bright and clear as you. 🙂
One of the keys is the right order – I usually apply the darker one first, then the lighter. I find it keeps the lighter shade looking crisper!
Great, I will try that method…thanks!
Very pretty! I really like the lip color as well. I’m so intrigued by the OCC Dune collection but don’t like their Stained Gloss formula much so will be looking forward to your reviews!!!
Thanks a lot, Megan! 🙂
Colored eyeliner (or eyeshadow, for that matter) is not something I like on my green-eyed self, but you brown-eyed people, go for it.
Do the Smudge Sticks wear well?
I have INSANELY oily skin, so even “long-wear” products melt right off of me. 🙁
They wear well on me (8-10 hours), though I will say I wore all of this for about 16 hours, and MJB was still quite intense after that length of time, while Mint Julep had faded more noticeably.
Love the liner and lip combo! Very pretty!
Thanks, Fancie!
Yay, we definitely miss your looks! You always do such an amazing job, and we certainly could use the inspiration! Thank you! <3
Aw, thank you Ryou!
I swatched the Mint Julep liner in store and thought it was lovely but felt that it wouldn’t be very practical. This is lovely. Very spring/pastel like. 🙂
I love it on the water line 🙂
Super pretty – I love the pop of colour!
Always fun to add some color!
Love the look specially the teal eyeliner! Everything looks good on you Christine!
Thank you, Lily! 🙂
Beautiful Christine! I want those eye products and lip tars!
Thanks, Kate!
All I can say is : Stay blessed with beautiful skin and breathtaking smile on your face dear 🙂
the look is stunning in every possible way 🙂
Aww, thanks so much, Rashmi!
The teal liner is so pretty! It really pops! I’m also going to try the mix of OCC stained glosses you used. It made such a pretty color!
Aurora is really pretty on its own, but I felt like it was a bit too bright with the vibrant teal eyeliner, so Dune helped to tone it down without making it totally blah!
Stunning! When I wear teal or blue liner, this is also the sort of look I go for.
Awesome! 🙂 It’s hard for me to wear neutrals and go with neutral eyeliner, haha!
I miss your makeup looks too, that’s why I started reading your blog back in 2008. 🙂
🙂 Thank you!
Yay for more looks! I love the unexpected pop of colour and how everything harmonises so well with your top (dress?) and earrings. That lip combination is beautiful.
Thank you, Kate! 🙂
This is gorgeous! Especially loving the eyeliner combination! That mint is amazing!!
It does! It adds so much!
This look is ADORABLE, Christine. And those eyeliners really do seem to “glow” when paired together!
Hope you had a great day with the in-laws 🙂 It’s a long weekend down in the States, right?
Yup! It was Memorial Day weekend, though I always forget about holidays that aren’t like… Christmas, LOL!
Thank you!
“Bird of Paradise” look 🙂
Good way to put it!
I like seeing a “look” as well!! I used to check out all your looks when I first started reading the blog and still have some bookmarked for when I get lost for inspiration!
I also like seeing you using older products, as I find when you list dupes I am always looking/hoping for older or permanent items that I may have already.
Thank you so much, Brenda! 🙂
Yay a look post! This made me so happy 🙂 Your look makes me think of summer for sure because it’s bright and fresh! I look forward to more look posts, given you have time for them 🙂
Definitely a very summery look! 🙂
Love this! I think teals look so pretty with your eye color!
Thank goodness for that, because I don’t think I could give up teal eyeliner 😉
I know I already commented, but I also wanted to say I personally struggle putting together full-face looks like this, where one part of the face is really highlighted (in this case, the eyes!) and the rest is more subdued, so this is definitely inspiration for me!
Happy to give you a little inspiration <3
It’s interesting to see the emphasis so much on the lower lash line but I do think it works. Great lip color, too.
MAC’s Victor C. actually told me it’s something I should keep doing, because it’ll make my eyes appear bigger 😉
Wow, Mint Julep is such a stunning shade. Loving this look- so perfect for Summer! xo
I love it with this teal!
Wow! Very pretty! I think I’m going to try this look in the near future!
Thank you, Diane!
Yay!!!! I’m one of those who posted about how much I miss this feature. So glad you are bringing it back again, Christine. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!
🙂 I aim to please!
Really pretty! Your eyes just glow in these colors!
Thanks, Cristiana! I didn’t think the two would work badly together, but I didn’t expect them to look glowing!
Gorgeous look! I’m going to try the 2 products you used on the lower lash line…….I do something similar with blues. I like these shades better!
Let me know how it goes! 😀
*SQUEAL* 😀 love the ‘glowing’eyeliner’ so much!!!
ArgharghRghargh… Having a style envy attack! 😛 my rogue training is telling me that I must steal your look… 😉
I’d love to see your take on it 🙂
The print of the dress, the soft pink lip and the gorgeous liner tie in together perfectly Christine!
Thank you, Ankita!
want… lip… tars…neeed!
It was a nice color combo!
Gorgeous look Christine!
Thanks, Melinda!
How fresh and pretty you look! Spring perfection 😀
I’ve been layering eyeliner on my lower lash line lately using a lighter shimmery pencil in concert with a darker matte and it’s working and I can’t figure out why it took me so long to try this out .like I could only wear one colour of liner or liner and eyeshadow, but not two eyeliner pencils. Rules I created for myself in my own head. so silly!
This combo you created here is like a completely definitive look for you. I always love your teal liner and you rock it out better than anyone else I know.
Me neither! I’m like, “UHH, what else can I pair for glowing eyes???”
Breathtaking! You look very lovely and spring like! You are so inspirational, I will do my best to recreate this look tomorrow, love it!
Thank you, Karen! I hope you were able to try it 🙂
Aww bright and pretty! I’m going to try and duplicate your look, nice for spring!
Yay! Let me know how it goes, Denise!
You look stunning!!!! I am completely obsessed with this look and I’m totally going to try to recreate it tomorrow. thanks so much for sharing! xo
My pleasure, Dori! Hope it turns out well for you! xo
I know how you love teal… and I forgive you LOL Actually what I wanted to say was how tickled I am to see full face posts again! I’m sure the reviews keep you busy but I love these looks! Love love love! I will bake you cookies if you find the time to keep them up! Haha! xo Also… are your brows extra archy or is it just me? They look good (I like your eyebrows) and the look a little longer to me. xoxo
Thank you! 🙂 I just tweezed them the day or so before, I think, and I’m thinking that the use of primer probably gave the brow bone highlighter a little more “pop” so it makes them appear more defined. I didn’t really change any shape (not intentionally, at least, haha).
I’m really liking your lip color here! Beautiful look, Christine!
Thanks, B!
Wow that eyeliner really is glowing! As are you! 😉 Thanks very much for posting this, it’s nice to see something that is “you”. How interesting that you apply lid primer with a fingertip, I prefer to apply it like that but I find it interferes with the wear of my eyeshadow!
Right? It was a surprise hit. I mean, I didn’t think they would go badly together… it’s teal… but they REALLY worked well!
Do you have any excess moisturizer or something like that on your fingertip you think? I almost always apply primer that way, and I don’t think I’ve felt like it interferes with wear! Otherwise, I’d use a flat brush like MAC’s 242. With NARS, it seems so thin that I think you waste less with fingertip application, but something thicker like MAC Paint Pots, I’d probably apply with a brush.
Hmmm good point about the moisturiser… I always assumed it was the natural oils on my fingers!
Wow! I’m absolutely obsessed! I think I’m going to have to pick up some teal eyeliner for sure. After seeing this look, I have no idea how I’ve been getting by without it, LOL.
Teal <3 <3 <3
So pretty! I love the whole look too with accessories and your top, everything just “works” 😀
Aw, thanks Candice!
Christine this look is absolutely stunning on you!! I love how your paired the eye and lip with your dress and jewlery and your skin looks flawless as always!! Can’t wait to see more of these looks from you in the future!!
Thank you, Melissa! 🙂
Great look!
Thanks, Keri!
BEST LOOK EVER OMG I SERIOUSLY NEED THE LINERS AND OCC TARS LIKE NOW
Thank you, Kristin!
I AM OBSESSED!!!!! You look absolutely gorgeous; hands down my fav look eveeer! I can’t wait to recreate this!
