Makeup Look: Neutral Eyes with Teal Eyeliner

Neutral Eyes with Teal Eyeliner
Neutral Eyes with Teal Eyeliner

Last week, a few readers said they missed seeing looks posted on the blog (as in, cohesive ones!), so I’ll try to post some periodically–depending on whether there’s time for a more “free” day.  Sometimes there are so many products to test, I can’t give up the facial real estate 🙂  On Saturday, we spent all day with my husband’s family, which is usually a 14-hour minimum, so it’s a day where I prefer to just go with something that works.  I remember several readers wanted to see Stila Smudge Stick Mint Julep in action, so I thought this might a good opportunity to showcase that as well.  Going forward, I will try to post looks using recently reviewed products, but this was a very “for me” look more than anything, so hopefully you can forgive the excess of older products in it.

Eyes

A lot of the times if I’m not specifically testing something for wear, then I’ll reach for products that I really, really love that are, more-than-likely, discontinued or long ago limited editions. I love the two shades of cream eyeshadow Tom Ford released a year ago so much that I keep them in my basics/regular routine drawer, and I always take them with me when I travel. I’m so used to not using primer these days, but when I know I’m going out and about all day and am not testing, then I’ll still start with a primer!

I used NARS Smudge Proof spread all over the lid to the brow bone with a finger tip. I also like to take a little and apply it to the lower lash line for extra hold for the eyeliners I’ll use as well. Next, I applied Tom Ford Escapade Cream Eyeshadow to the first two-thirds of the lid, starting from the inner lid and moving outwards. Tom Ford Pink Haze Cream Eyeshadow was applied to the outer third of the lid and into the crease, blending outwards and upwards. To soften the edge of the crease eyeshadow, I applied Burberry Trench Eyeshadow to the brow bone (this is my go-to highlighter). For the lower lash line, first I applied Marc Jacobs Beauty Ody(sea) (62) Highliner Gel Crayon, and then I applied Stila Smudge Stick Mint Julep underneath the inner two-thirds of the lower lash line and along the water line. The effect made it look as if the eyeliner was glowing–I was quite in love with it! For lashes, I used a mascara fan brush to apply MAC Opulash Mascara.

Face

Normally, I find primer an unnecessary step with my skin type (normal-to-dry) for regular, everyday wear, but yesterday was going to be a longer, 14+ hour kind of day, so I started by applying Hourglass Mineral Veil all over my face. Then, I mixed two shades of Guerlain Parure de Lumiere Foundation with half of a pump of Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Skin Liquid Illuminating Emulsion as my base. For blush, I applied Troy Surratt Duchesse Blush  on the apples of cheeks. I set with Urban Decay Naked Loose Finishing Powder and finished with Guerlain Wulong Pressed Meteorites Powder.

Lips

I mixed two shades of OCC Stained Gloss in Aurora and Dune (reviews are forthcoming).

Haha! Well, it happens maybe once or twice a month, lol 😉 If family visits us here, then it’s no big deal since I can adjust/remove/clean-up products that don’t do well or won’t hold up for 12+ hours. To be honest, I really enjoy testing and reporting back more than applying just because, I think. It’s the interaction and seeing what readers think about products as they get posted on the blog that really make me happy!

Omg I love this look to death! This looks so beautiful and creative and you look great. Would u mind doing another look in the near future using the stila eyeliners with a colored look ? Iike with the electric palette or the Marc Jacobs siren palette. Idk if I’m the only one that wants to request a look with colors but I hope some other readers agree with me on this. But thank you for your commitment, its really appreciated.

I’ll definitely keep that in mind! Right now, I am thinking about using some of my “favorite” products that were recently reviewed every few weeks, because I really would rather post something where you can still buy the products used (or perhaps, were recently acquired by readers as well!). We will see!

Yayyy, a full look! I really like it (and it looks very cohesive with your outfit and earings!). I like that it’s more personal. And you already do a fantastic job reviewing tons of products, so it’s also really nice to see the products you reach when off-duty. 🙂

Hey Christine, oh what a stunning look! I’ve always loved teal on you, and the eyeliner goes so well with the eyeshadows! I might have similar shades so I’ll try to recreate this look at some point 🙂

Lovely….all the colors in makeup are complementing beautifully with ur skin tone….i am really in love with this new “series” of makeup looks…

Rachel Avatar

Yay! I was just thinking the other day I missed your YouTube tutorials! I would say this is a great compromise. Also, I love the Marc Jacobs highliners. They DO NOT move and are such beautiful colors. Lookin good!

Betsy Avatar

So, so pretty! You really have got the vibrant blue lower lash line down. I can never get it so bright and clear as you. 🙂

meganlisa Avatar

Very pretty! I really like the lip color as well. I’m so intrigued by the OCC Dune collection but don’t like their Stained Gloss formula much so will be looking forward to your reviews!!!

Colored eyeliner (or eyeshadow, for that matter) is not something I like on my green-eyed self, but you brown-eyed people, go for it.
Do the Smudge Sticks wear well?
I have INSANELY oily skin, so even “long-wear” products melt right off of me. 🙁

Brenda Avatar

I like seeing a “look” as well!! I used to check out all your looks when I first started reading the blog and still have some bookmarked for when I get lost for inspiration!

I also like seeing you using older products, as I find when you list dupes I am always looking/hoping for older or permanent items that I may have already.

Zia Avatar

I know I already commented, but I also wanted to say I personally struggle putting together full-face looks like this, where one part of the face is really highlighted (in this case, the eyes!) and the rest is more subdued, so this is definitely inspiration for me!

Gorgeous look! I’m going to try the 2 products you used on the lower lash line…….I do something similar with blues. I like these shades better!

Wednesday Avatar

How fresh and pretty you look! Spring perfection 😀

I’ve been layering eyeliner on my lower lash line lately using a lighter shimmery pencil in concert with a darker matte and it’s working and I can’t figure out why it took me so long to try this out .like I could only wear one colour of liner or liner and eyeshadow, but not two eyeliner pencils. Rules I created for myself in my own head. so silly!

This combo you created here is like a completely definitive look for you. I always love your teal liner and you rock it out better than anyone else I know.

Dori Avatar

You look stunning!!!! I am completely obsessed with this look and I’m totally going to try to recreate it tomorrow. thanks so much for sharing! xo

Dusty Avatar

I know how you love teal… and I forgive you LOL Actually what I wanted to say was how tickled I am to see full face posts again! I’m sure the reviews keep you busy but I love these looks! Love love love! I will bake you cookies if you find the time to keep them up! Haha! xo Also… are your brows extra archy or is it just me? They look good (I like your eyebrows) and the look a little longer to me. xoxo

Christine Avatar

Thank you! 🙂 I just tweezed them the day or so before, I think, and I’m thinking that the use of primer probably gave the brow bone highlighter a little more “pop” so it makes them appear more defined. I didn’t really change any shape (not intentionally, at least, haha).

Jade Avatar

Wow that eyeliner really is glowing! As are you! 😉 Thanks very much for posting this, it’s nice to see something that is “you”. How interesting that you apply lid primer with a fingertip, I prefer to apply it like that but I find it interferes with the wear of my eyeshadow!

Christine Avatar

Right? It was a surprise hit. I mean, I didn’t think they would go badly together… it’s teal… but they REALLY worked well!

Do you have any excess moisturizer or something like that on your fingertip you think? I almost always apply primer that way, and I don’t think I’ve felt like it interferes with wear! Otherwise, I’d use a flat brush like MAC’s 242. With NARS, it seems so thin that I think you waste less with fingertip application, but something thicker like MAC Paint Pots, I’d probably apply with a brush.

Christine this look is absolutely stunning on you!! I love how your paired the eye and lip with your dress and jewlery and your skin looks flawless as always!! Can’t wait to see more of these looks from you in the future!!
