MAC x Star Trek Kling It On & Where No Man Has Gone Before Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches

MAC Kling It On Lipstick
MAC Kling It On Lipstick

MAC Kling It On Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “deep purple with fine glitter [with a Frost finish].” It’s a blackened purple with subtle, warmer undertones and multi-colored shimmer and micro-glitter. The texture was fairly smooth, with just a bit of grit from the glitter come through (but it wasn’t sharp or rough to apply). It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque coverage that applied evenly but had some color settle into lip lines over the four hours it lasted. MAC Metal Head (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Anastasia Chrome Shadow (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Firm Form (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Sephora It's Electric (57) (P, $8.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). Anastasia Chrome Violet (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, cooler, less glossy (85% similar). MAC Black Night (LE, $19.00) is darker (85% similar). KVD Beauty Nayeon (DC, $21.00) is darker, more pigmented (85% similar). Too Faced Mermaid Tears (LE, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter, glossier (80% similar). Maybelline Smoked Silver (P, $7.49) is more shimmery, lighter (80% similar). Make Up For Ever Edgy Black (422) (P, $23.00) is less shimmery, darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

MAC Where No Man Has Gone Before Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “pink with gold pearl [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a medium, pinky-plum with subtle cooler undertones paired with warmer, gold pearl. It had semi-sheer coverage, which is as expected given the Lustre finish, that went on evenly and smoothly. It lasted for three hours on me. Tom Ford Beauty Otranto (LE, $55.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). MAC A Wink of Pink (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Plum Dandy (P, $19.00) is darker, more pigmented, cooler (90% similar). Anastasia Lychee (LE, $18.00) is more muted, warmer (85% similar). MAC Capricious (P, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Drake (P, $36.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Guerlain Leather Blazer (013) (P, $32.00) is warmer (80% similar). NYX Power (P, $6.00) is more shimmery (85% similar). Maybelline Copper Rose (P, $7.49) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

The Star Trek collection will be available online on August 25th and in-stores September 1st (North America). There are two more shades–The Enemy Within (neutral gold shimmer, Frost) and LLAP (icy rose champagne, Frost) that will be released as well.

I really wanted to like Kling It On. Do you think it would well as a topped over another shade? I think I’d get decent use from No Man so I’m going to try for it as well. Hopefully these won’t all sell out in 5 minutes like many of their LE collections. I may be on vacay when they release online so there’s a good chance I’d miss them. The in-store release is on my birthday but since I took off the week before, this will be the first year ever I’ll actually be working that day (*makes sad face*).

IDK, between the so-so swatches and the boring packaging, this collection is SO disappointing 🙁 Just for nostalgia’s sake, I’m going to try to buy something (assuming I can get my hands on it), but will wait to see if the rest of the collection looks any better. Right now, Kling It On at least looks more unique, and might look nice over a black or purple lipliner

Believe it or not, I actually see some actual usefulness to Kling It On as a topper over a very deep plum matte lipstick to give it oomph! From a distance, it doesn’t look bad at all.
But; Where No Man Has Gone Before is absolutely one of the nicest looking Lustres MAC has ever done. Very wearable and terribly sexy, too! Yes, I’m buying that one. ?

Klingon it on is so pretty in the tube. Much too dark for my no matter how it performed. I do like the No Mancolor very much but no enough to go over the edge.

I tried this on today at the MAC area outside Comic-Con. It definitely left weird patches of color on my lips. I almost bought it but didn’t want to wait in the payment line. Fun color but very dark. Unfortunately they sold out of several things including nail polish which was what I would have bought.

The rock chick in me screams ‘YES!’ for the Kling It On lipstick, the cautious side of me screams ‘Is it really worth it considering the swatch isn’t that great?’ and the frugal part of me screams ‘Forget it and save your money’. Decisions, decisions!!

Does Where No Man Has Gone Before look anything like Lollipop Loving? It’s sort of reminding me of it here and i would love to find something similar!

I just got Kling-it-on today, it’s gorgeous, I especially love the semi-sheerness of it and the grey-purple base colour. Just wondering, do you know of any lipsticks that are similar in shade to the base colour (i.e. without the glitter)? Thanks!
