MAC x Nicki Minaj Easy Babe, Gossamer Wing, Japanese Maple Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Easy Babe
MAC Easy Babe Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had good pigmentation in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy–just enough to glide on without tugging but not add slip or shine. On me, it stayed on well for four and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.
Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.
The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Gossamer Wing
MAC Gossamer Wing Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a light, golden beige with fine pearl and a luminous sheen. It had a Lustre finish, so the sheer coverage was in line with expectations. The texture was thin but emollient, which resulted in a bit of color that sat in my deeper lip lines over time, but it was comfortable to apply. This shade wore well for two hours and was non-drying.

Japanese Maple
MAC Japanese Maple Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a soft peach with warm undertones and a faint, pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a lightly creamy texture that wasn’t too thick or too thin and had a touch of tackiness. The color applied fairly evenly, though there a bit of color that slipped into my lip lines over time. It lasted for four hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating.

I took a pass on this collection. Easy Babe is a nice brown actually. But I totally lost my cool ? with Pat McGrath pre-release.. some browns which I am hoping will work for me.. say it ain’t so
These are fairly average shades and the brown one is a bit murky to me.
Completely forgot I bought Japanese Maple last spring. I love the shade but haven’t worn it once yet. I wish it had more pigmentation, or maybe I mean more opaqueness.
Maybe I’ll try again and layer it over an more matte brown/neutral.
Easy Babe is the only shade I like of this group, but I already have three of the dupes on its list!
(I don’t like the name. Maybe if there was a comma after the word Easy. Lol)
Good one! I saw a tee shirt tonight on a ~75 y.o. southeast Asian gent, that read ‘I played lacrosse high.’ The gent spoke no English, and the young girls accompanying him were 6-7 and 8-9. Their English is fine to shop, but not quite equal to knowing why ?great ? granddad ought not wear the shirt. Plus, it’s figurative language for native English speakers. Laugh or cry…
Oh the power of the comma! “Let’s eat, Grandma.” vs “Let’s eat Grandma.” I was thinking the very same thing – that I’d feel differently about the name if only there were a comma.
Exactly, Seraphine! I’m having the same issue with this name, myself. Because, without the comma, those 2 words together basically mean “slut”. Whereas, “Easy, Babe” would imply something quite different and not at all objectionable.
Easy Babe is very pretty on you!
All 3 of these are shades which I, personally, loathe. They look like crap on me and make me look sick….not an effect I’m seeking in cosmetics.
I really like Easy Babe 🙂 I’m always on the lookout for a good brown lipstick that isn’t too cool, so I might just grab this one.
Hi Christine – I noticed on your homepage the summary score for Gossamer Wing is C- but in the detailed review it is B-. Strange
It’s probably because it’s taking the average rating (if a product has been rated multiple times, the rating is averaged) and not just the one in the post, so I’ll have that fixed.
Oh interesting. Glad to help. You are so detailed and thorough I knew it was something. 🙂
Appreciate everything you do. Seriously keep up the good work!
Love how Easy Babe looks on you! Now I’m seriously regretting that I bought ABH Kiss instead of Honey. I mean, now that I have Nicki’s Nude, I really don’t need Kiss too? And I would buy Honey over something named *Easy* Babe!
Also very surprised at how pretty those 2 lighter shades look, even though Japanese Maple is just too light on me when an SA insisted I try it on a few years ago.
All easy skips for me.
Yeah I am over nudes truly. I can’t be the only one?
Great post! Could I ask how does Easy Babe compare to MAC’s Velvet Teddy and Taupe in your opinion?
