MAC x Kelly Osbourne Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches

MAC x Kelly Osbourne Lipsticks
MAC x Kelly Osbourne Lipsticks

The MAC x Kelly Osbourne Collection features four new and limited edition shades of lipstick. Each lipstick is housed in a lavender case that’s almost matte but has a slight shimmer. They’re interesting shades, and three of the four are more pastel in nature, which made them more prone to settling/pulling into lip lines while worn, rather than evenly fading/wearing away.

MAC Dodgy Girl Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “light lavender [with a Matte finish].” It’s a light-medium, pink-tinged lavender with a satin finish. There’s a slight sheen to it, so I wouldn’t describe it as matte. It had mostly opaque color coverage and lasted four hours on me, and it wore fairly well throughout, though it did very slightly “crack” after three hours. It was neither hydrating nor moisturizing, but the consistency was creamy and glided on easily. Illamasqua Posture (P, $24.00) is more matte, darker. MAC Fresh Amour (LE, $16.00) is purpler. MAC Lavender Whip (LE, $16.00) is pinker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Digitalis (P, $18.00) is slightly pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Kelly Yum-Yum Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “bright blue pink [with a Satin finish].” It’s a vibrant, medium, fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and leans slightly magenta. It had rich, opaque color payoff, and the consistency was creamy so application was easy. The color lasted for six hours and left a stain behind; it was neither drying nor hydrating. There are numerous similar shades on the market, past and present. MAC Happy-Go-Lucky (LE, $16.00) is lighter. Sephora + Pantone Universe Radiant Rush (LE, $18.00) is darker, more magenta. Bite Beauty Moscato (P, $28.00) is brighter, cooler-toned. Bite Beauty Satsuma (LE, $24.00) is brighter, lighter. NARS Full Frontal (LE, $26.00) is more magenta. Maybelline Electric Fuchsia (LE, $7.49) is a touch darker. MAC Dear Diary (LE, $18.00) is slightly darker. MAC Pink Pigeon (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Daddy’s Little Girl (LE, $16.00) is more matte. MAC Candy Yum Yum (P, $16.00) is brighter, cooler-toned–this is really a more wearable, less blue-based version of CYY. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Nylon (P, $18.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Riot House Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “light vivid orange [with a Matte finish].” It’s a very light peach with a mostly matte finish. The texture of this felt really creamy, but it still seemed very unforgiving; if you have any dryness or imperfections on your lips, this will highlight them, so I would recommend using a lip primer and/or lip pencil to improve the end result. It’s creamy enough that it tends to thicken but not distribute evenly–it moves around, creating “lines” if you press your lips together at all. The color is pretty close to full coverage, and it wears for three and a half hours. It starts to pull and settle into lip lines, though, as it wears. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Hollywood (P, $18.00) is very shimmery, less peach. MAC Sweet & Sour (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Salute (LE, $16.00) is yellower. MAC Peachstock (P, $16.00) is darker, browner. MAC Nearly Nude (LE, $16.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Strip Poker Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “light nude [with a Matte finish].” It’s a light, pink-tinged beige with a matte finish. It had full, opaque color coverage, while the formula on this shade was lightly creamy but not too thick, so it was more manageable to apply and wear than Riot House. The color wore well for three and a half hours, and it did slightly pull into lip lines over time but not too noticeably. It was a touch drying, unfortunately. Maybelline Blushing Beige (915) (P, $7.49) is darker, warmer. Maybelline Bare All (910) (P, $7.49) is sheerer. MAC Pret-a-Pretty (LE, $17.00) is similar. MAC Ruffian Naked (LE, $16.00) is slightly cooler-toned. MAC Myth (P, $16.00) is pinker-tinged. MAC Fleshpot (P, $16.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

None of these, with the exception of Kelly Yum Yum would work on deeper skins. I’m disappointed. Kelly Yum Yum isn’t exactly unique, either. I’ll be skipping this collection.

Makeuplover234 Avatar

I’m pretty dark and the thinking the opposite ’cause in my mind I’ve already paired dodgy girl with this purple liner I have lol It’s going ro be to die for! Lol Plus since peachstock (similar Riot House) is gorgeous on dark skin so I’m excited! Sorry you don’t like though.

Mustabeen Avatar

I guess Aditi here has Indian skintone like me and Christine. While these colours aren’t exactly functional for our skintone, it would certainly pop on darker skin without making you look washed out 🙂

Ammara Avatar

I second that. I think they’re wearable for only very fair people. Yes, of course if you’re a little daring with your makeup, that’s fine, but these are generally not good with a medium complexion at least.

Socks Avatar

I’m not sure who these lipsticks would look good on. I’m very pale, and the only shade in the collection I could wear without it making me look like a corpse is Kelly Yum Yum. I’ll pass on that one, though, because I already have several lipsticks that are very similar.

18thCenturyfox Avatar

I’ll say it- they will look good on me. I’m NC15 with black hair and very very light eyes. I’m not adverse to being “zombified” and I don’t follow MU trends. I’ve been wearing these kind of shades since the mid 90’s and have never looked back. They bring out my eyes more then any other shade. Black eyeliner and light lipstick, Shrimpton lips are my thing. I’ve said this lots of times but the shades that look really lovely on other ladies, all those work friendly subtle neutrals are just ruinous on me.

Shana Avatar

I’m very fair and I wear colors like Riot House all the time. I think they go well with my skin tone. They brighten up my face, don’t make me look dead at all.

Sylirael Avatar

Trust me, as a vampire, the last two are *not* ‘wearable’! They will give an extremely ‘editorial’ look (to put it politely, ‘zombified/death’s door’ look to put it more bluntly). They are definitely statement shades, but I think the statement would look better on darker skintones! 🙂

Ginny Avatar

I was thinking, none of them will look good on my pale face, either! Except KYY, but I don’t think I need it, as I’m comfortable with my CYY.

Alyssa Avatar

If the packaging wasn’t the cutest purple ever, then I might skip these, but I may just have to get Kelly Yum Yum at least….sigh…..LOL

Heather Avatar

With Kelly’s awesome knack for hair and clothing I would have thought that the shades would have been more unique and tempting. I was hoping for an actual lavender or a purple or something with a smoke color to it!

fabiola Avatar

I thought kelly yum yum would be exactly like cyy, it is still pretty though.
Thanks Christine, I always wait for your reviews, you are the only beauty blogger I follow, I find you so reliable, and I trust your opinion. Thanks for all the for you put in temptalia to help your readers.

Lotus Avatar

I’m giddy over the packaging! Yet I don’t need these.. But I’m excited about them just the same! Christine, how is Blaquer (whatever, the black Marc jacobs highliner gel eye crayon) working in those tight lines? Still awaiting the arrival of all TTs. YaY! But, I’m in LOVE w/ Marc Jacobs Beauty!!! I don’t know how I could love anything more! I’ve still not gone glasses shopping, btw, something is wrong gynecologically. Tmi? Well, I’m just a bit scared and not feeling well, so if anyone has any tips for tines when you feel like this.. Tips on how to keep up with daily routine when you don’t feel like yourself and can’t pinpoint it..? I’m grateful for any kind words. Thank you.

Lotus Avatar

Nifty. Do you still prefer TT LINERS? caps, whoops. Did you just need to blink to get it to stay on both?
Anyway, I appreciate the encouragement by recommendation, yet I feel so crappy & ajar that I can’t even get myself to wash my face! Then that bugs me. I guess I just have to wait it out and trust I’ll adapt and feel more like myself soon. 🙁

18thCenturyfox Avatar

Oh and having apps like Headspace and/or Calm on your phone can be real lifesavers when the fear feels unmanageable.

Lotus Avatar

You’re so wonderful & kind. Thank you. I’m here for you as well. I’m happy to talk to any if they need. I took a long hard road out of depression, PTSD, and many things of that category as well, so I’m pretty well versed on the topic, and helping others. 🙂 Life is interesting and not so happy at times, it’s nice to know we’re not alone in our darkest moments. This caught me off guard, my usual positive stable self.. That was the scary part. I keep affirmations and lovely calming apps as well as music and artistic endeavors close by to remain my calm & keep steady. I’m doing a bit better, thank you all for the responses. “In the depths of winter, I finally realized that within me there lay an invincible summer.”

Wednesday Avatar

Hey Lotus, hope you are feeling better 🙂 I find yoga and stretching exercises a great way to force your mind to slow down. Wait, you can’t work out all day.. hmmm.. Well, if you can’t cope because it is an unknown, I find I can file the thoughts in my “I can’t do anything about this right now so I won’t dwell on it until I know more” compartment in my head. Think of your feelings and then put them in that filing cabinet in your head knowing you will and can cope and deal with it when you need to. That scared feeling is always the part leading up to dealing with an issue, or so I find. Once you have devised a game plan, it all becomes so much easier. Fear can be managed, but takes practice. Slow it down, stop your head from getting ahead .. know what I mean? Better, grasshopper? Let it go for now. Feel good 😀 peace

Lotus Avatar

Hi Wwendy!

Yoga is wonderful, Wwendy, and I have so many of those drawers! How is your collection? 😉 they really come in handy, and your reminder was also a timely one of a cabinet system I forgot. Thank you. I’m touched by the responses. Truly, peace to you, beautiful. My gratitude. 😀

18thCenturyfox Avatar

For what it’s worth I think Churchills ” If you’re going through hell, keep going.” can be very bracing advice. I’m not suggesting your case is that extreme but as a practically lifelong sufferer of anxiety and clinical depression please know that whatever your suffering or affliction, others understand and sympathize. Just got some sad, but not unexpected news today. I’ve had a good ugly cry and am now watching Hot Fuzz and trying to dial it down. I think walking the dogs will also help even me out emotionally. If you want to talk please let me know

Yvette Avatar

Hi 18thCenturyfox,

I am and have been suffering from anxiety issues as well as clinical depression.

Plus I’m going through a very difficult time right now.

Would you mind hearing me out and probably give me some feedback on my actions? If so, how can I contact you?

Thanks!

Lotus Avatar

People coming together is a gift in itself. Hell can’t be that bad, right? Sending cyber hugs through the air to you all. 😀 Yes, it is extreme, but it can only fully be defined by how I choose to cope. Now that I’m not a deer in headlights, I’m slowly adjusting and will just do as I must to keep the peace. I’m terribly grateful for the response, can relate to you, and you’re not alone, not in hell either. You made me smile! You have untapped potential to do anything! 😀

Denise Avatar

Never underestimate the benefits of exercise. I loathe the gym but sometimes just doing something simple like going for a walk can help heaps.
Also whatever it is you are going thru won’t last forever . You’ll look back on this period in your life and will see that in the grand scheme of things it was just a small window of time. Things do get better. Hope this helps.

Lotus Avatar

Thank you. I genuinely appreciate that. Movement helps us flow through life. And at some point, everything passes and will make way for the room to birth something new and beautiful. Thank you all, again. My love & respect. 🙂 <3 xoxo

Faiza Avatar

I think MAC is just tired of making the wearable colors so now they are trying to make some “washed out” kind of colors for brown skinniness …:-)
Non of them atleast will work for asian skin!

Wednesday Avatar

I love your eye look paired with these lipsticks… it’s perfect and makes even the colours that typically wouldn’t work well with your skintone work very nicely on you. I’m thinking that purple is a bit challenging, but still, I really like it. The yum yum is super pretty and I’m dying for Strip Poker myself. The only one I’m not so fond of is riot house because the undertones would make me look sickly. I’m loving this collection and very much see Kelly in it.

Chanel Avatar

I’m really liking dodgy girl and Kelly yum yum the most, I’ll definitely try to get dodgy girl because I like lavender lip colors (especially for the summer) and I don’t own one yet. If Kelly yum yum looks anything similar to candy yum yum I’ll probably pass on it because I didn’t like how candy yum yum looked on me, but it doesn’t hurt for me to try it. Thanks for the swatches

Liz Avatar

Wow this is the first thing i saw today & it already made my day, thank you so much reviewing/posting this! I really LOVE DODGY GIRL! Will definitely get it!

fancie Avatar

I love the way Riot House and Strip Poker looks on you! I wouldn’t touch either with a 10 foot pole though lol. They look like they’d be too light and chalky for my skin tone. Just Kelly Yum Yum and Dodgy Girl for me! I love Lavender Whip so a more purple matte version sounds exciting!

Adhishree Avatar

These colours are so tempting and I don’t know why, because I doubt any of them are going to suit my skintone! I’m eyeing Dodgy Girl in particular. You pull it off stunningly!

Angel Avatar

I fricken LOVE the packaging! Oh, how I wish I wasn’t a sucker for packaging. Lol! I definitely don’t need any of these lippies, but Kelly Yum Yum and Dodgy Girl are calling my name! *weeps as I empty my wallet* Between this, the Aquatic collection, and the Lorenco collection I don’t think my wallet will make it through the summer.

Christine, how would you say Dodgy Girl compares to Riri Boy and Up The Amp? I have both and am trying not to get “another” in Dodgy Girl.

Shars Avatar

This collection comes out on my birthday!!! *cue confetti and disco lights* hehe. I’m definitely gonna get Dodgy Girl. I somehow never got around to buying CYY so will probably get Kelly’s version instead. Looking forward to your reviews on the MSF and blush from Sharon’s collection hoping they are more brown girl friendly 😀
Thanks as always for your detailed reviews and unbiased opinions 🙂

Alex Avatar

I feel like the Kelly Yum Yum shade of hot pink lipstick is becoming the new retro red. It’s everywhere! There’s almost too many! It seems to have been featured as the poppiest shade in a lot of recent collections and, dare I say, it’s getting a bit boring. I love hot pink lipsticks but I feel like we’re at saturation point.

Love love LOVE Strip Poker, will definitely be picking that up.

Laurissa Avatar

(Hopefully) Kelly Yum Yum is coming home with me! The other shades are WAAAAAYYY too light for my liking. They all look good on you – especially Kelly Yum Yum! Thanks for sharing!

Erin Avatar

I did buy two Lime Crime lipsticks and the formula on them was dreadful, especially considering how expensive they were. Colorwise, though, these remind me a lot of the offerings from that brand.

Patrice Avatar

I think dodgy girl is the only one on my list. I’m an NC50 but I think I can pull this color off. Kinda similar to viva glam nicki 2 when I saw it swatched. More purple in this one though. Christine, do you know if the pro discount applies to this collection?

Dori Avatar

I love all of these!! The only one I may skip on is Strip Poker…. I love nudes and I’m pretty fair skinned but it may even be too light to suit me. Thanks for the amazing swatches! I am so, so excited for this collection!!!

Magdalena Avatar

OMG I want all of them! Like really! I’m going tomorrow to a MAC counter to find out if they will be available on my country (pray for me lol). If not I’ll have to find a reliable place to buy online (plus the shipping rates of hell) 🙁

Romantic Lily Avatar

Hi Christine;)
As usual, you are tremendously informative and provide an invaluable portal on the intel we are really after!:)
How would you say Dodgy Girl compares to Viva Glam Nicki 2’s lipstick? Are they kissing cousins or identical twins? Thanks!

Ester Avatar

Both of the nudes look so sexy on you!! I wish I could wear those colors, but they would make all of the redness in my spots stand out. 🙁 Would you be able to do a skincare routine post? Your skin looks so flawless!!

Aquie Avatar

I’m so excited about these…I’m NW50-NW55 tone and I love Dodgy Girl and Riot House they will definitely be making an appearance in my makeup collection…I’m still on the fence about Strip poker as I have too many nudes as is…But the Kelly Yum Yum is pretty but I’m positive that it’s close enough to at least two tubes of lipstick I already have…Thanks for the review Christine…I had totally forgot about this until I got the email about your post 🙂 and I love all the lipsticks on you!

Brianna Avatar

What time do the collections go live online? I’m on the west coast so I cant remember if it was 8 or 9 when I bought the RIRI Hearts Mac collection last summer!

I will def be buying Dodgy Girl and I’ve been looking for a good nude so will probably get strip poker as well!

Sky Avatar

Do you know if this will be at the MAC countes too? I’ve never been to a MAC store or counter and am going for my birthday for the first time

N8iveBeauT Avatar

I forgot this collection was coming out!!!! After I spoiled myself with the Alluring Aquatic this collection suddenly decides to come out. Quite a few things I’m looking forward to, Dodgy Girl and Strip Poker l/s, Peaches & Cream blush, and a few other things. Christine, I can’t pinpoint what it is but you look different in a good way. I keep looking at the pics (in a none-stalker way) and I can’t tell what it is………..

Gillian Avatar

First time commenter… I just wanted to chime in and say I actually think both Riot House and Strip Poker look super wearable on you! Like fashion editorial or super 60s-y retro kinda nudes. I love that look, but it’s very dramatic I already have 3 near-dupe ultra nude lipsticks like them, but I swear I might have to pony up the cash for at least one of those two because our skin is very nearly the same tone as far as I can tell and I love how closely they mimic your skintone.

Christine Avatar

Happy first comment, Gillian!! xoxo

Thank you for the vote in favor 🙂 It’s funny, because it really shows how our own perception can color our feelings, you know? Someone will say they hate reds on them, but I’ll see them and think they look drop dead gorgeous!

Charlene Avatar

I don’t wear CYY much, so maybe I could skip? Or do you think I should get it since it’s not the same shade?

I also wanted to thank you for all your work! I always refer to your blog as a reference. Your blog helps me keep up with what’s new and has really helped me with all my beauty purchases! Thank you Christine!

Guin Avatar

I’m kind of in love with the pale lip look. I feel more drawn to Riot House but I have this nagging feeling that Strip Poker would suit my skintone better. Very pale but with an obvious yellow undertone. What do you think?

Alla Avatar

To me, Dodgy Girl looks very, very close to Nyx’s round lipstick in Power, so that might be something people could check out if they want to try the colour, but in a cheaper version.

Meagan Avatar

Mac Sweet and Sour isn’t LE anymore! They made it, and others like flamingo and razzeldazzler permeant a couple weeks ago.

Sharon Avatar

KYY is gorgeous! Not sure if I want it, since I already have CYY. I think I want Strip Poker instead. How does Strip Poker compare to Flair For Finery? Which one is lighter? Since I think Flair For Finery is already kinda pale on me.

Arielle Avatar

the lipsticks sold out on the mac website in less than 10 minutes. Hoping I can get lucky when they go live in the dept store. I’ve been meaning to pick up ‘Candy Yum Yum’ so I was excited about getting ‘Kelly Yum Yum’ instead. Hoping I won’t have to hit up ebay instead!

Natalia Avatar

I bought dodgy gel and jelly yum yum and I seriously hope dodgy girl works for me. It’s such a nice color. I’m an nc37 do you think it would look okay?

maisha Avatar

I am NW45 in mac and i want to purchase all the kelly lippies and the 219 brush. I tried on 6/2 but i wasnt fast enough.lol hopefully next time if not i will be taking an early lunch.lol for the mac counters.

Sarah Avatar

Thanks so much for your great review, as always, Christine! MAC limited edition launches can get so stressful, but having your thorough reviews and swatches make me feel like I have a great friend giving me great recommendation, and helping me get products I love and skip those that will just sit on my vanity. Thank you! Did you by any chase review the brushes in the set? I was really curious about the 183 I believe (the face buffer). Thanks so much again!

Jaemae Avatar

Something very weird I found about dodgy girl is after a couple hours it gets REALLY pasty looking and cracks a little..not sure if anyone else has experienced this..the formula is a bit odd. And also I am a NW45 and I wear dodgy girl with a brown liner blended just on the outside and it doesn’t look crazy at all ! Passed on the lighter colors tho

Kristyn Avatar

Love these swatches Christine! As someone who is super fair-skinned, I got my hopes up thinking Riot House and Strip Poker would be light enough to be nude shades on me. Tried them at my local MAC counter and–still, too dark. Strip Poker looked almost brownish on me :/ Guess that’s a good thing though, since they’re all sold out anyway! Thought these lipsticks would be a little more flattering on paler skin tones.
