MAC Star Wonder Mineralize Skinfinish
MAC Star Wonder Mineralize Skinfinish
MAC Star Wonder Mineralize Skinfinish ($29.00 for 0.24 oz.) is described as a “plummy pink with multi-dimensional pearl.” It’s a pinky-plum with a pale golden shimmer. It has swirls of champagne beige, pink-tinted plum, and a peachy-pink with yellow undertones. Illamasqua Ambition is slightly less pink, more subdued. Bobbi Brown Plum is similar but darker and has no shimmer (so it looks even darker). MAC Plum Foolery is bit more plum, less pink. Chanel Rose Temptation is significantly more plum. NARS Oasis is a smidgen darker and more plum with gold sparkle rather than shimmer. theBalm Cabana Boy is also a bit more plum than pink. It seems like the balance of pink and plum in this is what makes it just a little bit different from shades that seem similar.
It has a fairly strong shimmer finish, so it did emphasize the pores on my cheeks somewhat. There was a very lovely glowy sheen that was flattering on, so the trade-off was almost worth the pore-emphasis! The color is very buildable, so you can get a more intense blusher out of it if you so desire; I think it’s suitable for light to medium-dark skin tones with darker skin tones finding it to be subtle and tinting but still visible. Star Wonder had a soft, fairly smooth texture, and blended well. Quality-wise, it was neck and neck with Light Year (this one wasn’t quite as smooth but it wasn’t powdery like Light Year). It wore for just over seven hours before starting to fade. There was slight separation after eight hours.

This looks so pretty on you! I’m skipping it çause I already have Cabana Boy, I think I’ll save my money for this collection eyeshadows haha
@Rafaela I think they ALL look beautiful on her! Well, except for Earthshine. I can’t imagine that looking good on anyone. It looks like mud sheered out.
I was a little unsure about this one, but I ordered it anyway. I typically don’t like pinks, but the tiny bit of gold and purple give it a depth that looks absolutely beautiful on my very fair skin.
I am NOT going to buy a backup even though I love it. The quantity will last me a lifetime, plus something even more fabulous will come along and it will fall by the wayside.
You’re wearing it intensely to capture the color, Christine. Sheered out, this looks beautiful on a pale cheek.
@divinem1 Yes, it should be really lovely on light to medium complexions!
My favorite so far! I love plummy pinks.
This is the one I was waiting the swatch. I bought this one as soon as I saw it online. Thanks so much for all your hard work Christine.
Grrr. I was ready to write off the MSFs in this collection based on the preview swatches. I didn’t think they were that interesting. Then I saw the full reviews of Light Year and Star Wonder and now I want them! I own ONE MSF, Brunette. I never wear it, so I do not need another one that I will end up in a drawer, but gosh these are so lovely in the full pictures. The pretty pretty swirls are hypnotizing me to hand over my money.
@jenmhilton At least the finish on this is less metallic than Brunette, IIRC!
But at least we know why they went with swirls 😉 It was really subliminal marketing!
i already have the blonde msf…would you recommend the light year msf or star wonder for more variation in my msf collection?! thanks for the reviews!
Probably Star Wonder – I think Blonde is pretty light.
This one is GORGEOUS! Oh gosh, I might have to cave and buy my first MSF…
how different is this from subtle breeze?
This is much more plum!
Hi, Christine! Thank you for being so quick posting reviews for this launch- I usually wait on your posts before I purchase something, but this line sucked me in and I made an order last night. I purchased this and Light Year MSFs, two eyeshadow (I know you don’t typically favor the minerals shadows,but hopefully they will be ok), Cut a Caper, and the exfoliator. I am glad that the two MSFs rated so highly! Thank you again for your promptness and dedication to your loyal followers- we appreciate your hard work:)
Hi Christine! Will this show up significantly on someone with NC42 complexion?
Yes, I think so!
Not Christine, but I think this would look absolutely beautiful as a highlight on deeper skin tones without going ashy. It’s a surprisingly complex color with the pink, gold and plum. Very pretty.
I caved and bought a backup I like it so much. * rolls eyes *
do you think this looks like nars orgasm
@angelbaby2535 Orgasm is much pinker and lighter!
Christine, this reminds me of a Cargo blush that was discontinued years ago called Gotham. However, Gotham had a slight blue/purple sheen that I LOVE. I may have to get this!!!
Would a pore perfecting primer make this msf look better? I also have large pores.
@joannafigueroa It might!
Does this resemble NARS Deep Throat at all to you? This looks like it might be darker but similar?
@yellowlantern I think Deep Throat is pinker? Like this has some red in it.
when is Marilyn Monroe’s collection?
^^ October:)
I love this one!
this one is my favorite from the collection…
not sure i understand what a mineralized skin finish is. where do you apply it?
@gmarie24 Usually cheeks!
@Christine (Temptalia) thanks! and this vs bella bamba?
@gmarie24 Bella Bamba is pinker!
Looks so pretty! Mine is coming tomorrow, so excited to get it!
This is indeed pretty! I generally never get excited when I see MSF but this looks lovely!
Got mine today (along with the VAE) and am loving them both!!
Just bought this! I was going to get Light Year and Meteoric, but ended up buying Star Wonder and Cut A Caper instead, lol. Ligh Year seemed just a bit too shimmery for me when I swatched it and I loved how fresh and awake Star Wonder made me look. I chose one with lot’s of the peach streak in it. I think Lightscapade will always be my fave as a highlighter, but this is pigmented enough for a blush. I love how Star Wonder suits both a cool pink and a coral make up. 🙂
I can’t decide on star wonder msf, center of the universe msf, or supernova blush. Which would be best on my NC35 skintone?
Supernova
i’ve ordered this one and light year(and solar ray blush) i love MSF i also have lightscapade and the medium one that i use as a mattifyng powder i love this collection expecially for blushes and MSF
thank you for the gorgeous swatches!
a girl at Mac said the design is just an overspray, is this true or does it go all the way through??
@Beckie 2795 Goes all the way through!
@Beckie 2795 I hope it wasn’t a MAC employee. It would be disturbing to think they don’t know their product enough to answer questions intelligently. I have it. It’s not an overspray.
Hi Christine, just wondering what would be best on my nc35 skin, star wonder msf or ring of Saturn?
@TMBJessxox Ring of Saturn probably!
hello,
im intrested in buying a really really pink msf i was between star wonder and blonde i want one that has much more pink ? or do you have a better suggestion
thank you 🙂
@yolandaoutten Star Wonder
Is there any comparison between this and Bella Bamba by Benefit? I passed on this one because pores are a big thing for me!(:
