MAC Sounds Like Noise Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “bright true orange matte.” It’s a brightened warm-toned orange with a smidgen of red in the undertone and a satiny finish (it doesn’t read entirely matte). That lack of red is actually what makes it stand out against a lot of other orange shades (like MAC Morange and MAC Neon Orange, which both appear darker and redder). OCC Banjee is lighter, yellower. I was surprised to find that none of the orange lipsticks in the gallery came close.

Sounds like Noise is an online-exclusive from the MAC x Hayley Williams collaboration, which is supposed to launch on April 9th (but hardcore fans may want to start stalking a little earlier).  It has opaque color coverage, and it had a nice creaminess to it that fell somewhere between satin and amplified (in terms of finish); definitely creamier than the average matte finish by MAC.  I have it on now, and we’re almost at four hours of wear, and it’s still going (I’m guessing five to six hours in total), and it’s slightly hydrating thus far (will update in the next couple of hours!).

How does it compare to MUFE’s #40? – It’s my go-to for bright orange lipstick that doesn’t have hints of red. From the photos it looks similar, though it looks like MUFE’s orange might be brighter?

I didn’t see Milani’s Sweet Nectar in the swatch gallery but if anyone reading this has both colors, can you tell me if they’re close dupes?

Esme Avatar

I have Sweet Nectar, and going by this post, I do think it’s a decent dupe. Sounds Like Noise looks slightly lighter and yellower, and Sweet Nectar is glossy instead of matte. But I thought of Sweet Nectar the moment I saw these photos! It’s certainly the “truest” (i.e. least red) orange I’ve found in a drugstore.

Loving the color! but they could’ve at least added Hayley William’s signature somewhere on the packaging or indicate that its special edition..

Gosh, this is absolutely beautiful. It looks like a more wearable (in every sense of the word, eek) version of Lime Crime’s Cosmopop. I confess I’ve never bought a MAC lipstick because there are decent dupes for them and they’re so much pricier here in the UK but I may just have to get this one. SO gorgeous!

I cannot wait for the release of this collection! I’ve loved Hayley AND Mac both since I was about 12. Absolutely perfect collection for me. :p Thank you for the reviews and swatches, Christine!

Christine, will you review the extra dimension collection? Do you know if retails like nordstrom will carry this collection?

I dont think this will work for my skin tone; I’ve been looking for the perfect orange lipstick for me but I think the orange needs to have red undertones. I have Morange and I don’t like it lol It needs to be more of a reddish orange in order to work for me! Oh well, it is lovely shade and I’m so glad you can pull it off!

I am NC 55 and I’m tired of all these red-orange lipsticks impersonating true oranges (lol). Maybe they last longer on the lips. Wondering if I could pull this off with my cool chocolate complexion….

I equate orange lipstick with fingernails scraping a chalkboard-both just irritate me. I’m all for less traditional makeup shades, but this is one I just can’t get on board with. I know there are many who love it, and even a few it truly flatters, but I really just don’t like it.

This will solve my problem of never finding an orange lipstick that is not basically red. Morange was the first MAC lipstick I ever bought and then it was Vegas Volt, Neon Orange, and then Costa Chic. Orange lipstick is my confidence booster and I have been dying for a true orange. So glad this still has yet to be released. I would be very upset if I missed out on this color.

Wow, so this is what a “true” orange is supposed to be! lol. =)

What blush would be good with this Christine? Regular coral-ish types or bronzers? Would coral clash with a true orange? You think this is too bright on an NC40? Thanks much my lady! <3

How does this compare to MAC ProLongwear Lippie ‘Good to Go’? I am NC50 and I LLOOVVEE orange lips. I have been looking for a pure orange, So Chaud was too red and I did not like Morange. I hope I can catch it as soon as it comes out online.

What time do the launches go live on the site? I’m always too late! Living in LA, forget about it. All the MACs nearby are cleared out of new collections by noon. 🙁

Wonder how this compares with Inglot 278, which is also an orange lipstick. Too bad I can’t go into a store to test swatch. 🙁

I’m so happy that i’ve picked the up on Mac Cosmetics UK – it sold out within 24 hours, and its just arrived in the mail – looks amazing on! I’ve got pale skin similar to Hayley so i’m gonna rock this one out as much as possible! Shame i didn’t buy seconds/thirds…

Mirela Patino Avatar

Awesome review!!! I was wondering if this type of color would make teeth look whiter or yellower? I don’t really know how to figure that out. Thank you 😀

I am still thinking witch lipstick to buy with my yellow skintone. I think Morange looks prettier on you. So probably on me too. Next week we have queensday in Holland. So it is all about the orange. I think it would be fun to wear a true orange lipstick. But now i don’t know witch one to choose :-S. But sounds like noise is limited and morange i can always buy. What shall i do??
